Use MATE or Gnome. They're updated to the latest GTK and are actually under active development, constantly introducing new features while also actually working out of the box.

Im unsure as to why you would use Arch for a workstation, but jesus... 1.3gb RAM used for Arch with XFCE?

I have a Fedora LXDE workstation and an Arch databse server, which when COMBINED use around half the memory of what I see your Arch XFCE workstation using.

I tried and tried and tried and wasn't successful.

So I left Xfeces how it was supposed to be.
Ugly and functional.

I did however successfuly create a makeshift version of the default Xfce GTK2 theme for GTK3 to at least give it SOME degree of constistency. Normally it just uses Adwaita (pig disgusting) for GTK3 applications.

Definitely a work in progress but I'm satisfied with it so far. So far I almost got used to it.

I feel like I should ask here.

I know fuckall about ricing and stuff. All I wanna do is have a setup with
Minimal chrome
Taskbar that can hide itself when not in use
Some way to run programs without icons and without having to activate it in a terminal and have it take up space

How would I go about doing that?
Apologies if I'm not making sense. I have no experience yet configuring WM/DE stuff.

Easiest way I can see is to install Chromium.

>Some way to run programs without icons and without having to activate it in a terminal and have it take up space
Check out rofi and dmenu. They're both simple launchers where you can use a keyboard shortcut to run them, and then type in the program you want (with autocomplete suggestions).

As for a taskbar, there's a whole load of options, but I'm not too sure which one supports auto-hiding (aside from the launch bar in Ubuntu's Unity DE)

By closing down programs do you mean closing them gracefully or killing them?

Either way, both rofi or dmenu can be used to run regular commands (e.g.
killall chromium-browser
). The only thing you'll be missing here is output to the terminal, since neither rofi nor dmenu are meant to be full fledged terminals. You simply type a command and it runs them.
>>
>>58891285
The former, preferably. If I need a terminal, I'll use a terminal. But I don't need a terminal to run Firefox, for example.

Why the fuck is everyone installing i3 nowadays?
>>
>>58901353
Superior value to meme ratio. It literally costs nothing, so it's NEET friendly, and they can meme harder.

Also circlejerking. Lots and lots of circlejerking.
>>
>>58901455

That's exactly why I haven't hopped into the i3 bandwagon. I was able to make XFCE cozy enough for me without wasting more than 10 minutes.
>>
>>58901501
So far following the general advice of /g/ has only resulted in bad decisions for me. So now that I see several of them agreeing on how shit XFCE is, I'm trying it right now, and stay the hell away from i3.

>>58901353
they're faggots who are too retarded for dwm or xmonad

XFCE was the only "decent" DE for a while after KDE4 turned out to be complete shit and GNOME 3 was an even bigger shitpile than GNOME 2. It never /looked/ good though, and it never as powerful or extensible as KDE. And after using XFCE for about a year, I gave up on DEs altogether. Now, if you want a "normal" "decent" "polished" DE I guess Cinnamon is the way to go, or KDE 5 if you want to spend a lot of time make it look not shit, except Plasma has /never/ been stable.

It's not that bad, I just don't like the rounded corners on everything.

>>
>>58903014
Style stolen from a top post on /r/unixporn
Linux mint, XFCE, Apapta-nokto, Numix circle, DockbarX with Splice.

>tfw it has fuck all to do with your PC
It's your router you mongoloid, the DHCP lease time for your IP is less than your standby time, and when you resume your session on your laptop the wifi is trying to use an IP your computer doesn't have assigned to it anymore.

Used Xfce all last year on Manjaro. Messing around with i3 atm. Comfy. Ricing the desktop was pretty gud on Xfce.
>>
>>58903753
Not even close to the problem. By default windows doesn't certain usb peripherals to wake the computer, usb adapters for internet being one of them. This problem doesn't exist on linux. But nice bait, it got me to reply
>>
>>58903894
>that damage control
Bullshit. Who are you trying to fool here? You are on /g/. I've been using Wi-Fi dongles for years, the issue you describe here does not exist. It will be the DHCP settings.

do you want me to make a video next?
>>
>>58886688
You install multiple third party programs and hope they don't crash every time you start your computer. You also pray that whatever forced updates don't break your programs. You post screens of your riced Windows 10 desktop on forums and hope someone buys into your bullshit.

Disgusting

Please do, so I can make a video with my Windows 8.1 reconnecting to Wi-Fi after sleep too.
