There's no reason why the genetic material wouldn't mix if the bio engineered grills still have 46 chromosomes. While essentially being designer test tube babies, the genetic makeup of the girls will still be 100% human with no missing genetic data. The only thing that has changed would be either the expression/over expression or masking of certain phenotypical alleles, i.e eye colour, hair colour etc. Our genetic makeup and mutations are available for everyone to see in massive online banks, everything from single amino acid base pairings to quaternary protein structural changes. It's not at all difficult to mix and match exactly what you need. The modified DNA strands could then be easily multiplied billions of times via PCR.

The only thing I can imagine would be a serious problem with this is the idea of "mass producing" a number of embryos at once. The best way is obviously by introducing the altered but fertilised embryos into a woman via IVF who will then give birth to the child 9 months later in a natural process. And even then, success rates are generally very low with a number of embryos dying off before even being implanted. But if we're talking mass producing, I'm guessing a shit load of human incubators would be necessary to mimic the conditions of a human womb. One thing is for certain though, I sure as hell wouldn't be surprised if there's a secret laboratory somewhere in this world who has already experimented with genetically modified human embryos.

Mass producing is one thing, the introduction of unknown genetic defects through deliberate genetic modification would be another (yes, I know the risks are small, but it's still worth noting) .

You're right though, surrogate implantation is currently the best way, but besides the outcomes that you have stated, there's also the risk of having multiple implantations, e.g quadruplets or more, which can negatively effect the overall growth/birth weight of the embryo. Then there's the possibility of RH antigen mismatch, and other factors that might complicate and add unnecessary costs to the process.

Nevertheless, the advent of CRISPR heralds a potential new age in terms of designer children, and given time I'm sure that the technology will both be widely developed and ethically accepted by the community.
