I have had an issue with my USB 3.0 speeds for years and was never able to resolve the issue. I'm getting 7MBps it doesn't matter if I use a usb 2.0 port it's always slow.
I have tried disabling legacy usb support, updating usb 3.0 drivers enabling better performance/write cache, front/back ports, different drives etc etc but nothing works.

Windows 7 x64
Mobo: X79A-GD65
USB driver: Renesas Electronics
USB 2.0 supports 280Mbps. Use a drive that doesn't peak at 7 you moron.

I know your point still stands but that would be 35MB/s

Did you even read? I tried different drives. I have a wd black and its maxing at 8mb/s over usb 3 plugged into the back port. i even tried unplugging all my mice/keyboards out of the usb 2.0 ports.
The point i was making in the OP was that even if i plug it into a usb 2.0 port it doesn't even max those speeds out.
The only thing I haven't tried is booting into a different operating system to see if it's windows 7 related. But as I said earlier I have been having this issue a long time (6 years).
The only reason I didn't persist with trying to fix it was that I didn't use the usb ports for storage much but now I have a 6TB external and it's going to take over WEEKS to transfer.
