It's a horrid a language, but far from being unpopular.

Name a better back-end language.

Protip: you can't
>>

>using server-side templating
Why do people still assume that someone's gonna browse your website on a toaster? PCs, phones and tablets are more than fast enough to handle templating. Just send data to the frontend and let the browser do the rest.

are you fucking serious
>>
>>58861682
Too young, jailbait
>>
>>58861802
Server side rendering is still much faster and most of the world uses shitty hardware. There's no reason for most websites to be SPAs.
>>
>>58861863
This.

I'd rather not have every site become a shitty thick client written in JavaScript.
>>
>>58861975
It doesn't have to be thick. You can write pretty lean code using Vanilla ES6 and maybe jQuery as long as you have good standards for how you structure your program. I don't touch full-blown JS frameworks unless it's going to be a huge webapp.
>>
>>58862045
I suppose. I guess I'm jaded from the absolute non-stop flood of garbage front-end developers.

any dialect of lisp

clojure may become an exception in 60 years
>>
Rust.
What a cult.
>>
>>58862045
Maybe you won't, but everyone else will.
>>
>>58862239
Lisp will always still be around like ancient arcane sorcery only the most devoted of wizards can grasp. Every other language will keep taking parts from it and saying they're new features.
>>
>>58862239
Clojure is already basically dead.
>>
>>58862322
Rust is a good language though. I mean, in comparison to golang (I know they are not competitors), rust is mozilla's one of the main project and the development on libraries are fast; whereas with golang no one wants to contribute because its Google. Golang is a nice language too, but it's forever doomed as Google's side project. It'll never get as much as attention as Rust.

Heck, there is already an Operating system written in it.
>>
>>58862815
go already has ~6x the attention rust does.
>>
>>58862828
golang, a general-purpose language, doesn't even have a full fledged UI library. Big boys like Qt and GTK support is not complete, while Rust gtk3 is a full wrapper
>>
>>58862828
This. As much as I hate Google, as well as Golang, you can't really deny that Go is way more popular than Rust. Moreover, it'll likely outlive Rust because Google will outlive Mozilla.
>>
>>58862955
the fuck? nobody cares about gtk or qt anymore bud. desktop applications are out. additionally, i dont think go is much a general purpose language, but rust tries to pretend it is.
>>
>>58863036
golang was originally created as a systems language, not that it is now but rust actually is a good general purpose language. It's the better C++.

>desktop applications are out
lol

I thinks was above 300 times.
Go has millons line code on production.
People hire Go programmers,
Rust toy proyects, or slideshow code.
Rust nobody contract programmers
>>
>>58864122
It's popular in heaven tho

Go (on the right) Vs Rust (On the left). If you look closely, the only reason why Golang is alive is because Google.

Rust community is way more active. This is coming from a Golang user.
