The file system, lack of default package manager, lack of DE customization / ability to change DE, lots of it is still non-free software. I think that's about it. It's still pretty fucking good. If I could keep GNU market share the same but swap the market share of Mac OS and Windows, I'd do it. It wouldn't quite save the world, but it would help a ton.

3.2 ghz i5 is good enough for me. Better than my gaming PC with an i3. Yeah the graphics suck but Macs aren't for serious gaming. That is the only real argument. After Jobs died the professional market is going into the shitter. macOS itself is still the best option for most things out there and even MacBook Pros from 2012-2014 are better than most of the newer "pro" grade hardware you can get from any company.

>>58862721
Those were just examples anon. There haven't been really any actual arguments in this thread, the 3-5 real ones got answered.

I am as active in any other thread about a subject, be it Linux or Windows, in this case macOS.

Also yes, the outdated bash thing is not a real problem and the no-merge-option was just a lie, glad you agree.

It looks gay, rounded edges everywhere, like it's meant for kids or infantile adults.

Too design-ey for my taste.

No start menu, only dock.

No live tile content, everything is static unless you interact with it. So, boring.

Safari sucks, it's lagging behind Chrome in web standards support. Webms?

Still no cut and paste for files? Lel.

I'm no gamer but fewer games, and games with DirectX optimisation won't run as well.

Retarded .DS_store on every external drive you use with macos.

There's no touchscreen implementation so you can't use it in tablet mode if you need a simple way to make annotations on a document. You can't draw either on a screen with macos.

There's no darkmode for the whole interface, just for the menu bar.

Persistent menu bar is a really annoying and retarded concept.

It does have the best font rendering, I give you that. And it has built-in media previews.

But I wouldn't use an OS just for that.

You know these days desktops for apple are an afterthought.
>>
>>58862757
>Those were just examples
then why did you tried to make it look like a definitive answer and not just examples?
Could you point out the answers to the 3-5 that according to you are the only real ones? what about the others? why aren't those valid? because you can't answer those without making mac os seem less perfect?

>I am as active as in any other thread about a subject

It's just that macOS sucks less than the others for actual desktop power use, specially on their own portable machines, unmatched.

Yes, Internet Explorer was not garbage, it was a crime against humanity. And Microsoft should be kicked in the teeth for forcing that plague onto the world of the web and basically stunting its potential growth for years.

Developers who had to build sites to work on IE can probably sue Microsoft for the cancers they got while working with IE.

I have no idea how people can actually think finder sucks. if you spend 3 minutes configuring it to the way you want, it is easily the best GUI based file manager out of any OS that most linux distros try to copy aesthetically and functionally.

I mean look at all this power you have. tabs, column view, customizable toolbar and batch renaming ability all stock.
>>
>>58865338
Agree.

Some people complain about not being able to hide or show files. It's done with a keyboard shortcut. A fuckload of things in macOS are done with keyboard shortcuts, I don't know what's so weird about that.

Not only that, spring loaded folders, being able to create new folders with selected files, neat shit like that.

Stop it. Apple did it badly with this one, because it's not very intuitive. It kinda makes sense though.
So:
I have a test folder on my desktop with two pictures in it. I want to copy and paste another folder named test. If the second folder is empty, you'll only get the option to stop or replace. Choosing replace deletes the original folder content, which makes sense, since it's like replacing a file with another and you don't have anything to merge into the first one.
However, if the second folder has content in it, which it usually has, you'll get the option to merge the two folders on top of just replacing one folder with another.
In daily usage, I don't really see a reason for the replace button to be there, since it causes more harm than good, but that was the gist of it.

Pre-trashcan Mac Pros at first only allowed you to plug in a Apple GPU. Then, for no reason whatsoever and without announcing it to anyone, you could (forget which OSX version started this). To this day, I can't figure out why. Wasted $550 on a Nvidia 680 mac edition card when I could've thrown in any of my choice.
>>
Home and End keys are an arse to get working in a sensible way (even when you do the necessary hacks it's not consistent)

Mac has to be a special snowflake that uses cmd instead of ctrl for shortcut keys so if you use a Windows or Linux machine anywhere else e.g. work, you'll be tripping over this inconsistency all the damn time

>Mac has to be a special snowflake
By that logic you would have to say that Windows and Linux are the snowflakes, because Macintoshes used the CMD key before Windows was even in development.

Apple does not give a fuck, they won't change because some users would prefer it, if you want it to be CTRL, then change it yourself, they allow you to do it natively.

I have.
They are pretty weird, but you will quickly adapt to it.
It feels somewhat mechanical, but with a thin feeling to the keycaps.

>Time Machine, even with apple Time Capsule, takes LITERALLY FOREVER to back up small changes like 100MB or so (yes my wifi is capable enough, I even tested it with wired connection)
>You have to manually enable rightclick
and so on
>>
>>58867981
For real though, it has a lot of shit that it's just drag and dropping without even expecting that it would actually work. There's something that people are often missing and it's that an operating system shouldn't work like another operating system, it should work in a logical way. People be bitching about it being too complicated while screaming "babby OS", and not considering that the "normal" behavior they expect and they don't get on macOS is because on linux every more user friendly DE takes features from Windows or macOS rather than using an standard.

Shit I've used Windows since year 2k and sure I got used to it and how it functions, but it's dumb to expect another operating system to work exactly the same as windows by default because it was your first OS.

For instance, the close window button. Notice how I said close window, but apparently logic doesn't matter, so when I close a window, it must close the program, not a window. That's how it works because Windows is more popular and because we got used to it. Now you get a lot of people crying because they don't know how to hold a key while clicking. Thanks MS.
