is going from Python to C a fairly smooth learning transition?

No.
Going from C to Python is chill tho.
I'm guessing Python is your first language and since you're asking I doubt you grasp all of Python's concepts, so:
No, it will be pretty difficult for you, but you could do it.
No, especially if you started on python.
It's going to be a fucking trainwreck OP. Be sure to post results, we all need some humor in our lives.
It's kinda like going from recorder in third grade to Rachmaninoff's piano stuff.

Python doesn't have any concepts? What you see is what you get with Python. That's the beauty of it and that's why it's great for beginners. It may not be blazing fast like C but it takes 3x less time to make the same thing.

You are in for a rude awakening
Please post your progress.

It's like going from those toys where you have to match shape and a hole to bomb diffusal squad
it's like going from Christianity to lolibutt.

There are tons of concepts to learn in Python, it just isn't required to learn them in order to make Python programs, which is why >>58855191 is even more right.
It's doubtful OP knows how to masterfully use comprehensions, generators, decorators, any form of actual functional programming (using itertools and functools). He probably hasn't even heard about most of these.
In other words, OP doesn't know Python, he merely knows enough syntax to write simple programs in Python.
So yeah, OP's gonna get raped by C.

did Rachmaninoff know about pointers?

I went from Java to C++ and that was a huge bitch.
