Linux is only good for servers. Linux sucks for desktops so Linus is using the best OS for desktops: macOS.

That's Fedora Linux with GNOME (cue "I see you're running GNOME" meme), not OS X. He likes the Macbook though.

At least you admitted windows is totally unsuitable for servers. Thanks for coming out.

but that has been fixed anon..
Also he uses Fedora now. He never used macOS, he just really likes the nice displays and overall build quality of apple's ultrabooks.
MacOS may be kinda shit, but they make solid machines (mostly)

>hat has been fixed
and how many bugs like that are still in there? this bug was found few minutes after trying to fuzz a binary. there must be hundreds of bugs of this severity inside of Linux because no one is paid to look for them.
>>
>>58841842
In Linux it is open source, so people can report bugs before it's too late.

In Windows, only the developers can see the code, so they just pray that they find it before someone else does.

Also, in all Linux distros, you can easily install the new kernel as soon as it is stable with your package manager.

In Windows <10, many people probably go months without installing security updates because it is so intrusive.

>In Linux it is open source, so people can report bugs before it's too late.
ppl rarely do.

>In Windows, only the developers can see the code, so they just pray that they find it before someone else does.
MS pays hundreds of ACTUAL SECURITY ENGINEERS to hunt for bugs in thier code.

MS has hundreds of SOFTWARE ENGINEERS who do nothing but audit the code and set coding standards and enforce them so that security bugs don't happen as often.

>Also, in all Linux distros, you can easily install the new kernel as soon as it is stable with your package manager.
who cares? new kernel could be buggier than the old one.

>In Windows <10, many people probably go months without installing security updates because it is so intrusive.
that's why MS created that annoying update manager that forces you to update.

Anyone here attending the RMS talk on Monday?

That's the single thing I hate most about using Windows 10
>Hey! Instead of fixing the super annoying and intrusive update system everone hates, why don't we force them to update instead!?
Even linux has this shit figured out.

The average /g/ user, and I'm going to assume you have multiple times?
>>
>>58842077
You do realize
>who cares? new kernel could be buggier than the old one.
also applies to Windows, right?
>>
>>58842274
yeah, but MS actually tests their shit and has security audits.

Linux doesn't have any of that shit. Where's Linux kernel security audit team!?!?!?!? When Linus is ready to release new kernel version, who does he hand off his kernel branch to? Does he have a security team? Of course not.

You're probably right about that.

That accusation cuts deep.
>>58842302
one could argue that each major distro audits new kernel releases before incorporating them, and submits patches upstream. Red hat and canonical both have security teams, though obviously not the size of microsoft.

Too bad microsoft will never open source major parts of their OS. They really could be the best of both worlds. Darwin has done a lot for mac security, and they don't have nearly the install base of Windows. By some estimates they are even as low as linux.

/g/ has too long been infested with Windows gamer kiddies. It's time to purge them once and for all.

Any of the following regularly occurring threads on /g/ is either directly or indirectly about Windows gaming:

* Intel vs. AMD threads
* GPU threads
* Various types of rig/battlestation/guts/Speccy threads ("What parts should I buy, /g?" "Is this part good, /g/?" "Check out my specs, /g/.")
* All Windows discussion and support threads (obviously)

These threads only serve to discuss products for playing video games. They have nothing to do with programming, networking, security, privacy, freedom, design, usability, or anything else /g/ related.

These threads and the people who post within them belong in either >>>/v/ or >>>/vg/, as they are the appropriate boards in which to discuss their hobby, along with "console war" and "PC vs. console" threads. This should be Rule #4 for /g/ and it should be aggressively enforced until the children finally get it and move on.

This is the thread to petition Hiroshimoot to cure the /v/ cancer in /g/. If you really care about technology and not just vapid consumerism, help by adding your voice to this discussion.

We can do it, /g/.
>>
>>58842553
That's why we have generals-- to reduce the spam as much as possible.

But sadly, people who just came here don't check for generals, and people think memes are better than "real" discussions.
>>
>>58842553
Intel and AMD are technology companies, they make processors and contribute to other development like pci express, and HBM.

GPUs are technology. Graphical processors inside your pc.

>battlestations
>speccy
>guts
Computers are technology. If this triggers you then maybe reddit is better for you.

>windows discussion
It's funny because there's lots of games on Linux too now :')

Sorry boo, these are all still tech related even if you don't like them.
>>
>>58841250
This isn't OSX. It's a Mac with Linux. You can tell from the X in the top right dumb ass.
>>
If RMS is good, why the fuck is a coconut?
>>
>>58842775
dogs are also technology since genetic engineering is now a thing

trump is technology since his laws has effects on tech companies, which can indirectly dictate the position you will shit tomorrow (with technology ofc).

girls are also technology since they use cameras to show themselves on this board, so we should also allow porn threads on /g/, just deal with it.

welp, /g/ should be deleted and discussion moved to /b/.
>>
>>58842897
I would be okay with more grills here
