but they are replacing it with actually Universal connector. And someone has to do it first, if apple didn't replace it, industry would be stuck with many different connectors for everything. Now that apple put usb c to their laptops, accesories, cables and shit will be made and eventually everyone will switch
>>
>>58836991
I don't see what the issue is. USB A is literally everywhere, USB B is basically only on printers and they come with a USB A to B cable, miniUSB is long gone, and microUSB 3.0 is backwards compatible with both microUSB 2.0 connectors
>>
>>58836937
it is though

network resources and serial over bluetooth are safer.
>>
>>58836584
They decided to shed off half a pound instead of making it slightly more bulky for more connectors. I'm fine with the switch to one universal connector, but that laptop should have like 5 of them on the side, not 1 or 2.

The fags at apple realized long ago they could make more money selling shiny shit to retarded hipsters than appealing to the demands of pro users who don't fall for this marketing bullshit

When apple was making that powerbook on the left they were still having trouble making money and microsoft had to invest in the company to keep it alive, not because they were nice but because they needed macOS to still exist so windows wouldn't be considered a true monopoly and forced to spin off the OS from the company

Today they are the most valuable company in the world not because they made good computers but because they make expensive shit for rich idiots

to be fair very little mac software was still on floppies at the time and more importantly, apple was switching to os x which needed a lot of software rewrites / updates. its why they offered "classic" mode to begin with. and they where not stupid about the forgoing of the floppy. they added usb ports, adopted firewire, and made sure dvd drives where slapped on everything. in comparison this time apple is just ditching external IO all together. every port, every drive they can cut, they're removing and giving no replacement. remove the usb ports? do they give extra lightning bolt? nope. removed dvi, give another hdmi? nope they actually removed the hdmi port as well. all in the name of thinness. aesthetics. and if you want that flexibility back, they're charging your first born for it and making it very cumbersome. like OP's pic.

Because they're using an expensive, top of the line, PCIe SSD. Not because of a noticeable performance benefit in tasks that you can actually do on a low power laptop, but because they can put the sequential read speed in big letters above some vague bullshit term like "unbelievable speed".

but at least jobs still had the sanity to draw the line between "innovation" and "pointless progress-masturbation"

>>58836883
>and were criticized by people stuck in the past
it wasn't really a "stuck in the past" thing it was a "now what am I going to use for quick and easy data transfers in the age before flash media was economically feasible" thing, but it was still a non-event though because you could just use cheap USB floppy drives that were probably a better deal anyway since it let you hide your system under your desk if you wanted or whatever, you were only really in deep shit if you needed to read/write 800K disks

shitcanning onboard SCSI was probably the more retarded decision since it left a lot of people who invested a lot into perfectly useful SCSI peripherals in the dust and forced them to waste an expansion slot on an expensive controller

They decided to embrace unix in the hardware: each dongle does "one thing", and does it well rather than making the laptop with a kitchen sink of ports.
>>
The rat's nest of dongles is a result of idiots trying to preserve old workflows instead of adapting to new ones. Use cloud storage, get a USB-C -> Lightning cable for your iPhone, and either save the SD cards for home or have one adapter for those, stored safely in your carry for the 4% of the time you probably actually need it. Bam, rat's nest gone.

Than what, for what? These Macbooks have up to a terabyte of flash storage. How much more do you need to carry local on a daily basis?

Next time you look at a port, ask yourself: "Is this important enough that it needs to be welded to my computer for its entire lifetime?"

>>
>>58844376

Change everything because it's a better way of doing things, not because Apple told you to.

And it is better. Not only do I have 2TB of cloud storage across two services, but I also have a 20TB fileserver that beats the hell out of storing data locally on a laptop.

Diversify your computing by spinning heavy lifting out into always-on home servers, and this dumb port bullshit will never matter again.
>>
>>58844418

Wireless-AC says "hi", and it also wants me to tell you that it's faster than a motherfucker, and more than good enough for garden-variety file transfers.
>>
>>58844446
It's fucking not though. If it works for you, that's all fine and dandy. It does not work for everyone though.
>>
>>58844466
802.11ac can say hi all it wants, I'll continue to ignore it.
>>
>>58844488

I do most of my work from an iPad at this point. I can do that, because I can use Remote Desktop to fill any remaining functionality gaps. I can even get an adapter to plug in SD cards, too, if I really needed it (I don't.) I also get LTE, shitloads of battery life, and a best-in-class digitizer. It's really pretty sweet.

When I need things, I pull them down from cloud storage. It literally never fails me. I'm not sure how you guys are still having problems adapting. I'm more powerful and flexible than ever. Maybe you just aren't creative enough.
>>
>>58844553
Again, if it works for you, that's all fine and dandy. It doesn't for everyone though.
>>
>>58844603

You're being pretty vague about that. It sounds an awful lot like you're talking out of your ass and assuming it can't possibly work while never having attempted it.

I, on the other hand, attempted it to see if I could, and found that, as a matter of fact, I could indeed. So I did.
>>
>>58836584
Enterprise is the new Professional, Pro is the new Home
>>
>>58844615
Because being vague is good enough. I don't need to explain every little thing. I merely need to tell you that it does not work for me and you simply need to accept that. Nobody's telling you to change how you do things, quit telling everyone else to change how they do things.
>>
>>58844666

I'll quit telling these horse's asses how to do things when they stop posting these insipid infomercial-tier pictures of daisy-chained dongles running to half a dozen superfluous accessories.
>>
>>58844264
Actually, i'm a big fan of this idea of making everything USB, and reducing footprints and everything else. It's better for us, for competition, for the environmets, for devs, for everyone.
Personally thinking of ways to add that to power, as well.
The problem apple has is that their devices decided to have only one port, which forces you to sprawl a ton of dongles, instead of turning the gadgets you connect into simple unix-like plug-and-play extensions.
>>
>>58844702

>their devices decided to have only one port

Device. One device.
>>
>>58844701
Or you can accept that they're making fun of the MacBook's flaws. They may not affect you but they are nonetheless flaws.

>Pure wireless connections

Also:
>Muh work flow

You can do shit with pen and paper, why not just say that instead of being a huge homo, it's probably more efficient. But no one cares about that, instead how about convenience and not having to use dongles?
>>
>>58844729

But they're not flaws. Just differences. The product omits ports, and in practice, that's almost completely fine in conjunction with new ways of doing things. If you don't want to do things that way, that's fine, but it's disingenuous to turn your head, pretend those methods don't exist, and treat it as a "flaw".
>>
>>58844777
They are flaws.
>>
>>58836584
I actually have a theory about this. Having to plug in all those wires and dongles makes normies feel like special little hackers, especially when they do it in public. I have a brainlet english lit major friend who I could tell felt really proud putting together his laptop setup in front of me at lunch on campus, even though all he uses it for is facebook and charging his phone.
>>
>>58844744

The iPhone thing is so overblown. What it amounts to is that, if you are a giant idiot and completely neglect to charge your phone for an inordinate amount of time, *and* aren't using one of the cheap, ubiquitous Bluetooth playback devices that are absolutely everywhere, you have to go without music for fifteen minutes while your phone fast-charges back to 50%. It's a complete non-issue.
>>
>>58844851

>>
>>58837348

Hey why not 4 usb ports minimum then? Skip the need for docks/hubs/etc.

>>58844851
You know you eat shit on a daily basis right?

There's nothing wrong with having a powerful device that doesn't rely on the cloud, remote desktop, or other frivolous bullshit.

You people are the reason innovation is dead and mobile is stagnation. I hope you die a painful death from anal cancer.
>>
>>58844432

>>
>>58844931

The Macbook Pro *does* have four USB ports, you pissbaby, and the Macbook Air has two USB, a DisplayPort, and a dedicate charge port.

>you people are the reason innovation is dead

Okay, two things: one, it's a popular /g/ talking point that Android has more marketshare than the iPhone. iPhone constituents are somehow intended to be "BTFO" by this "fact". If this is true, how would a minority of iPhone users eliminate innovation from the market?

Two, I used to be an Android fanatic. I swore off the iPhone for *years*. Eventually, though, I started to notice a pattern of what Android "innovation" actually got me in reality: a wasteland of broken promises, compromised devices, and abandoned, half-cooked ideas. I jumped ship, and I don't regret it.
>>
>>58844553
is it possible to have a more homosexual post? I think not, remote desktop is garbage and slows down work for actual tasks like writing an app or editing a video, mouse and keyboard is worlds above retard deadass touchscreen
>>
>>58845040

Remote Desktop is a band-aid of last resort in my workflow. Generally, whatever I'm trying to do is achievable on the iPad locally. If, however, I anticipate a specific task for which the iPad will not be adequate, I have a laptop I can carry instead. This is rarely the case.

Cook did. I obviously don't know what it is like to work under him, but I don't get the impression that he is as demanding as Jobs was.

Jobs demanded the utmost from his engineers and it paid off in spades. Since then we've seen them float some moderately shitty ideas and the market has responded in kind. iPhones and iPads are keeping the company afloat, but I'm still waiting to see a real good new idea from them.

I used to think this, but then I got a usb c device, now I know microusb is fuckawful. The reversible connector is a godsend.

If we're going to try and standardise a connector, USB C should clearly be it.
>>
>>58836584
Tim Cook got cucked into actually listening to his investors.

Believe what you want, but Steve Jobs knew how to keep people on a leash.

I wanted to believe your image was good, but the left half says nothing of ports or anything. In fact it's basically just discussing software, while the right side is a meme implying you need every sort of port all the time. With how convenient stuff like rsync and sshfs are, you don't even need flash drives most of the time, let alone all that other stuff. Of course missing an ethernet port is a bummer, but it's not a deal-breaker. I use ThinkPads and the idea that ports are your #1 concern disturbs me greatly. Where's the TrackPoint? How about better cooling so it doesn't throttle? Who the fuck cares about ports?
>>

it's extremely common for mechanical keyboards

golly gee. this is a great idea.

I'm not denying that USB C is an upopgrade, my problem is that we're already two decades into USB A being the master port and microUSB 3.0 is good enough for the slave

Huh, neat

but how else can you charge people for 'innovations' that are literally just there to fuel the judaism?

>I do most of my work from an iPad at this point

You remind me of my gf.

Typed a 500 page report on her iPad. iPad died, "it's okay it's synced on iCloud, plus there's warranty". Apple Store wipes iPad, iPad connects to internet, says "Hi iCloud! I'm new iPad!", iCloud says "Hi new iPad! I have data from old iPad here, but certainly we don't need that anymore!", iPad says "Oh no, I'm new iPad, please wipe all data saved from old iPad!"

And that's how she lost her 500 page report, how I learned iCloud just clones the data you have but can't be used to actually backup something, and how she learned never to trust Apple again with anything. What's the purpose of iCloud then I still wonder.

That's the problem with you flamboyant faggots, you only care about the style, but there's no substance underneath.

It's not so much that he's a fag, but more that he likes underage chink boipucci and so, in order to get his fill of it, he outsourced the whole thing.

... and here's the problem. Professionals need fuckloads of storage space, the more == the better. Photographers, videographers, even fucking sysadmins and developers. Apple ignoring professionals and going after idiot users who have absolutely no need for high spec machines is the problem here because Tim Cook is a bean counter selling products in what is a saturated market has no fucking idea on how to innovate or keep the products niche so they can justify their high costs.

Fuck you, ordinary users. Go buy a fucking chromebook.
