I give up.

I've been a loyal Eclipse fan for years, but had to realize what a bloated piece of crap it is.
It was always kinda slow, but.. Let me just check on it... Yep... It still hangs trying to save one file.
Now, it's true that I'm using a remote workspace and the connection can be slow at times, but other editors (N++) don't seem to have that problem. Oh, and the indexer stopped working for some reason.

I used vim in the past but failed at trying to configure the clang_indexer. Also gave KDevelop a try, but it's still in beta for
Windows
, and had problems indexing the whole project I was testing it with (wasn't even such a big project).

So, what are you using for C/C++ development on large projects?

TLDR: C/C++ IDE thread, I guess.
>>
Try just using an older version of eclipse.
The newer versions are just insane. Why is there so much fucking bloat
>>
Vim and commandline tools, visual studio in the background for debugging on windows
>>
>>58833632
Code::Blocks?
>>
>>58833674
Used it many years ago. Wasn't really suited for larger projects (also didn't have an indexer). Don't know in what state it is today.
>>
Try with qt-creator
>>
>>58833659
Gonna try an older version for now (Ganymede)
>>
>>58833670
Windbg is way better than vs's debugger, vs's is built on top of the windbg engine with far less flexibility
>>
Visual Studio

muh perfect implementation of virtual spaces
>>
Codelite. I'm still not as productive as when I used Acme, but at least this actually works on Windows right now.
>>
>>58833632
Microsoft Visual Studio is free, bro.
>>
>>58833733
Yeah I love popup dialogs with progress bars lingering for minutes at a time.
>>
>>58833632
Still not on IDEA? Good time to change now.
>>
Visual Studio (preferably with Resharper for C++, if you can get it).
>>
>>58833757
>>58833770
Yeah I love it when vcpkgsrv.exe makes my entire PC obscenely laggy as is happening right now.
>>
>>58833782
Try using it on a PC built within the last 10 years, then.
Works fine on my PC, which still rocks a Phenom II.
>>
Is Dev-C++ any good?
>>
I don't understood Eclipse. It's like, no matter how much I upgrade my PC or how much memory I have, it never runs any better. It's like it's hardcoded to run like shit.
>>
>>58833805
Kinda. I'd prefer IDEA+Lion, CodeLite, Code::Blocks, even Netbeans or QT Creator. Or RAD Studio.
>>
>>58833632
neovim, a handful of plugins for neovim/vim, and the command line. I also use a a customized dwm as my tiling window manager, and have it set up to quickly open and close new terminal windows as needed, copy and paste shit between multiple vim instances, swallow style X windows like in Plan 9, etc.

In the Unix world, the entire OS is your IDE. Learn to use the Unix core utils available to you, focus on automating things with shell or awk scripts, and you'll never have to rely on Eclipse or similar junk again.

Unfortunately, at work, I'm plagued with using Visual Studio. On large projects, it's a nightmare. Constant crashes, freezes, etc.
>>
>>58833811
It can run kinda well, but its a fairly crazy platform with lots of poorly made plugins ruining your performance. Just... go to IDEA if you can. Androids official SDK and a lot of other JVM languages recommended SDK also did that switch cause its just so much less painful in most cases.

Why are people saying that Eclipse is slow? It's perfectly responsive. Meanwhile VS C++ with resharpers lags like a motherfucker on my 4770k. What gives?
>>
Netbeans?
Geany?
Emacs?
Vim?
>>
>>58833632
GNU + Vim is the best IDE. Prove me wrong.
>>
>>58833805
no, it's garbage
use clion
>>
>>58833811

It's written in Java, why are you surprised.
>>
>>58833882
>Resharper
Learn to write things properly the first fucking time instead of having an extra linter on top of your fucking IDE
>>

what?
Install youcompleteme and you are done
>>
>>58833632

Netbeans

Right now Kdevelop. Simply excellent. Graphical debugging fuck yeah. Used QTcreator before, which is great too, but Kdevelop is a bit friendlier for non C/C++ code.
>>
>>58835192
Should add: Kdevelop is as light as an editor, which is great too
>>
>>58834798
>youcompletememe
It's nice but enormous and makes vim slower than sublimetext at startup.
Giving vimcompletesme a try atm, alternatives?
