I have one of the first generation Steelseries Rival mice with an old ass firmware because it was suggested to keep it that way.

Let's say that I fucking dislike how I had to take out that rubber pad near the side buttons because it was wearing out quickly and it was disgusting. Reminded me of those old ass PS1 gamepads and their shitty analog sticks which would just melt.

What's a considerably better mouse than this? I've only used this and the Logitech MX518 in the last 8 years or so.

I just got a Logitech G203/G102 yesterday, with the intention of getting a small mouse for fingertip grip. As there isn't really an ideal fingertip grip mouse in existence, I felt this would probably keep me going until a better one comes out. Had average expectations, but I actually really like it so far and it's exceeded them. It's in many ways a better Logitech G Pro for under half the price.

I know this is crazy but just hear me out. I have a razer deathadder chroma mouse and recently it would stop responding after I leave my seat for a few moments to go to the toilet or cook something. My first hypothesis was that the mouse will occasionally stop responding after being idle for longer than 2 minutes. So I set up experiments where I would not touch the mouse or keyboard but remain in my seat for 5 minutes at random times during the day. After about 30 trials I've come to the conclusion that it only stops responding if I leave the room. One of my controls was leaving the mouse idle but standing up and that didn't work. Another is to account for static electricity by walking in place and rubbing my feet on the carpet but that wasn't the cause either. Everything I've done shows that I have to physically leave the room for a few minutes and come back. I have no webcam so the computer can't know if I'm in the room. I'm running out of experiments to single out the cause and it's driving me insane.

How does my mouse rate?

3 buttons + side buttons and a DPI button for 3 levels of sensitivity. Mouse works fine on most surfaces except glass.

You ever do any soldering before (or plan on learning)? If so, you could always just pick up a set of microswitches for a few bucks and repair the G400. That's the route I plan on going with my mice from now on, because I don't want to have to take a chance on picking up a mouse I might not like when I already have two I love and can fix them both up repeatedly for the same price as one new mouse.

my old M500 was starting to make my hand hurt after extensive usage. The cheap rosewill i got on newegg is spaced out too much though i've gotten used to it. the big mousepad i bought recently on ebay came with an orange brand mouse that's comfy as fuck but sadly has no side buttons.

the m500's side buttons are too far forward to make them both useful. I was gonna get the G700S based on a recent mouse thread on here but when i found the M600 on sale at best buy I figured what the hell. Glad i went with this instead of a razer nigga.
