Well what are you hoping to get into? Do you have a career in mind? If not try codecademy and test out there tutorials.
>>

i just want to learn to do something cool and useful

python or webdevelopment is what i have in mind mostly
>>
>>58830473
Then learn Python. It's fairly intuitive.

i did but i don't know where to go from there.

How do I CREATE valuable things?

i want to create. I want to do something valuable to the world, or at the very least something that will make me money.

I want to make something that will be a project that will go down in history. I want people to say "I love anon's work, it's been a lifesaver. My life has truly changed thanks to his efforts. God bless anon and may he live forever".

How do I get someone to say that about me?

Learn PeeHPee if you want pussy all day.
>>
>>58830555
Wow you really want to fly before you crawl. You can't create until you learn to use your tools. You want to be that good at coding well you better code st least 40 hours a week
>>
>>58830397
honestly i was in the same boat as u. i just picked a language and honestly they are all fundamentally the same. just come up with a program idea and there will be a best option. in my case i started when i used to play minecraft back in 2012. my first project was a minecraft plugin and from that day on i am not writing low level machine code. good luck man
>>
>>58830555
Value is separate from the program itself.

Generally something of value to people serves to alleviate a 'pain point' in there lives.

Say I have trouble waking up on time for work (my pain point), then an alarm clock is of value of to me. Therefore an alarm clock app has value (to me and others with the same problem).

The value factor is the number of people that have that pain point multiplied by how painful that point is. So assign a value that ranks each metric and multiply.

Lets say theres a very niche job with a huge problem a program could solve. Youd assign a 1 or 2 to number of people it would help, and maybe an 8 or 9 in pain gives (1 x 8 = 8).

Follow this model and you will derive something of value. Pretty sound logic id say.

int main() {
$cum = async bullocks.jackIt(cum => await cum)

end
}
?>

It's not that difficult m8

okay lads I think I'm just going to pick something and stick to it for the rest of 2017. Only in 2018 will I consider a new language.

I think i just fell into the trap of constantly comparing technoloigies and never deciding on anything

Want to learn python? Great!

Give me some information:
what OS are you using or want to use?
What's your background in mathematics like?
Are you reasonably tech-savy?
Do you have typical of ideas of what you'd like to use the language for?
What are the reasons you're interested in learning python?
What's your approximate age?
>>
>>58830817
>Do you have typical of ideas of what you'd like to use the language for?

Should read

Do you have any ideas of what the language is typically used for? Any projects that you've heard of you find interesting?

Been a long day
>>
>>58830817
>what OS are you using or want to use?

I use arch gnu/linux
>What's your background in mathematics like?

I never graduated highschool.
>Are you reasonably tech-savy?

Yes
>Do you have typical of ideas of what you'd like to use the language for?

I want to create cool things, i don't know specifically
>What are the reasons you're interested in learning python?

I'm bored and have no purpose in my life and i want to create something
>What's your approximate age?

>>
>>58830955
>I never graduated highschool.
Don't worry about it now, but you will eventually have to become decent with math. I don't mean highschool/university A-level nonsense (calculus, diff eq, etc.) This stuff is practically worthless for programming, although it can serve as a decent though experiment.

You should learn some discrete mathematics, but don't worry about that for now. Once you're reasonably comfortable at some programming, move to learning discrete math/problem solving.

/g/ will give you some great book recommendations for this when the time comes

>I want to create cool things, i don't know specifically

Python is a good choice for this. Variables are easy-mode and no need to really learn about memory management. Barrier of entry will be a lot lower than other languages.

>I am 22
If you don't live in the States disregard the following:

/g/ will say University is a meme but the fact is attending a University gives many the drive necessary to learn this stuff, even the parts that aren't fun (math, low-level programming for some, etc.) Not to mention, it makes you employable and gives you opportunities to be exposed to so many bright minds/technologies you'd never get self-studying this stuff.

At age 23 you are considered financially independent from your folks. Assuming you make less than $25k a year, attain your GED and apply for public University in-state.
Once admitted, Submit your FAFSA as soon as you turn 23. FAFSA should provide you with the Obama scholarship, pell grant, etc. Your tuition and living expenses should be paid in FULL.

You can live/study for four years for free. Your sophomore year you will start getting internships that pay in the neighborhood of 25/hr.

Easy way to get your life on track, if programming really is something you want to do.

If not, you should find something else you like in a University setting.
>>
>>58831440
I live in Canada but I guess the same still applies but with variance in some details.

I just don't know if i really want to get a computer science degree though, I've kinda wanted to study Accounting or Finance

Just start doing the challenges on py.checkio. That's what I did to start coding and learning about python. Once you got a hang of that start to do bug hunts for FOSS
>>

okay i will do it, thanks

Any other handy websites?
>>
>>58831870

There's the python challenge that I was doing for a bit if you want. Other ideas is to create small programs like an alarm clock, FTP client, calendar, small games like alien invaders, snake, pong. You know what the finished product looks like so you can code it to copy it.
>>
>>58831208
This is completely normal.

Regex is not an easy concept and is not expected to learn in a day.

t. professional programmer with 7 years experience in industry, currently working in a devops-like position in one of the biggest software companies in the world - controlling thousands of machines around the globe.

I'm completely burned out, incapable of coding even the simplest thing after hours - I have money, equipment and skill to code virtually anything I want, including hardware development . Yet I'm scrolling 4chen doing absolutely nothing, I recently picked up painting just to do something with free time.

i wonder when will i finally kill myself

Right click->view source->console

Type these lines in:

var x = 3;
var y = 2;
var z = x + y;
console.log(z);

Tada! You programmed. Now stop whining.

Learning to hack in order to blackmail pedos is possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard posted.

As if you could become this insane hacker and "hack everything" to find pedos and blackmail them. Doesn't make any sense.

If you were this great hypothetical hacker you wouldn't be posting such stupid shit, and you'd be doing a lot more valuable things with your time than blackmailing pedophiles. Shutting down child-porn rings, interrupting cartels, stuff that's a lot more important and large-scale than blackmailing some online predators.
>>
>>58832664
>Shutting down child-porn rings, interrupting cartels, stuff that's a lot more important and large-scale than blackmailing some online predators.
Good idea, that's what I'll do then. How do I go about this?

In a world of torrents you've got no reason not to do anything with your life OP. You can literally learn anything. If you can't do it with books use this

How do you get into hardware development? Sounds like it isn't your primary focus, but any advice would be helpful.
>>
>>58832777
Apply to the FBI directly, or find the RCFL (Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory) of your choice and apply. 60%+ of what they do involves busting pedophiles and pedophile rings, with some terrorism and organized crime thrown in for good measure.

I'm not a professional hw dev now.

Hacking around at home is a good start (arduino, raspi, fpga), you'll need to invest a little money tho. Then simply you have to look around for junior hw dev, however hw is kind-of dead and most this thing is done in china/india.

Also CIA, or other first-world country's cyber enforcement.

To actually land a gig doing this stuff you should know computer science, mathematics, cryptography, and specifically networking/tcpip/tor networking like the back of your hand.

This isn't something you just get into in a year, takes years of study and dedication, bachelor's in some mathematics/computer-science/engineering related major at minimum, but most will have some form of masters/phd or years of experience.
