This is seriously nice.

Although I am left handed, I've always worn my watch on the left hand.

Anyone care to share their experiences swapping hands?

Only reason I would consider the pelagos LHD is because of the styling of it.

Can someone breakdown VAT for me?
I live in the EU.
I want to buy a second hand watch online from within the EU.

Do I pay tax even if it's from a private seller on Ebay? Or is that only for resellers like on chrono24? How does customs know my watch is from one guy and not a business?

VAT is 21% on watches in my country so it's a pretty significant cost factor

Any answers much appreciated
>>
>>58820084
VAT applies to items sold direct from a retailer.
Private sellers are not required to apply VAT.

Trade between countries within the EU is nice and easy thanks to the FreeTrade zone, meaning you don't pay import taxes on items from other EU countries. So all you should need to pay is shipping and handling.

As per ordering from outside the EU, most sellers (LongIslandWatches I know do this for a fact) will put something along the lines of "Restored Time Piece - Value: $5.00" so that no one has to pay insane import/export fees.

Nice sub homage senpai.

Frankly, only a looney would pay $1400CAD for a "Diver" with only 100M WR. As a matter of principle alone any watch that titles itself as a "Diver" should be looking at 200M WR at the very least.

But frankly.

I'm ambidex master race, and it generally makes much more sense to wear your watches on your left, especially divers.
When turning the bezel it's more natural to extend your index finger rather than flex, same for the pollicis muscles, they'd rather flex than extend.

Not for a watch with no complications. It's part of the rather terrible watch trend to make shit bigger for no reason. Honestly I prefer the old 14270 as it's the classic dress watch size and is the size it's naturally supposed to be given it's water resistance + movement size.

The new ones are still nice and I would gladly wear one but it's kind of ridiculous that the Explorer I with no complications is just barely smaller than my 16570 Explorer II which has the gmt and date complications.

>Dive watches
The absolute barebones IWC "Literally Who" Aquatimer on a rubber strap costs over $5000, and gets it's shit pushed in by both the Breitling Superocean for it's superior finish, design and overall build quality, and to a lesser extent by the Omega Seamaster just on beauty (although build quality is comparable).

>Pilot's watches
Omega kicks everyone's ass with the Speedmaster professional, but even Breitling's new in-house Navitimer beats all of the dogshit in IWC's pilots lineup. Only the (high end) Portugiesers are comparable but they cost a fucking fortune and you should be buying Rolex or JLC if you're spending that kind of money.

>Dress watches

Alright, IWC wins here but it's not exactly hard considering Breitling doesn't make any and Omega's lineup of dressy watches is lackluster.

I would say a Rolex but Omega SMPs are nice watches as well. I suppose you can still get a Nomos Club for that price. Which is manufacture and a "respectable" brand.

I'll never buy a Nomos however because I remember a time when their watches cost like 500 usd and they added 1000-2000 usd solely because watch bloggers wanked them and the bauhaus buzzword into mid-luxury.
>>
>>58823571

The prices are reasonable for the models with the new fully in-house designed and manufactured movement, I think, but not for the models without the minimatik movement.

And I say that with an eye towards the R&D and capital investment costs required for a company the size of Nomos to design and manufacture the minimatik almost from scratch.

depends where you live- if its eastern europe, there are some great russian old style manufacturers which came back to life (they were making decent watched for military heroes in soviet times). Also there are seiko and orient which have very good looking, reliable automatics/mechanics, a lot of them are hommages to famous luxury watches like rolex etc.

Thinking about buying a 39 Dark Rhodium.
Probably buying a rep first and if I like it the actual watch.
However I'm not quite sure since it isn't one of the popular Rolex watches.
Anyone willing to talk me in, or out of buying one?

I'm having a hard time deciding.
Blue, red or green faces need to match with the rest.
White feels like a dresswatch, and black feels like I should just give up and buy a Submariner.

If I was a rapper I would buy some gold crap with diamonds I guess.

Thanks for you input though, I appreciate it.

Some hard facts:

1. If you're wearing a homage watch, people are laughing at you behind your back
2. If you can't buy an original, don't buy a homage, buy a fake. At least it will make you see what you're missing and force you to buy the real one.

No. It's implementation by Omega was almost entirely a marketing driven meme that has rendered large portions of the movement's drivetrain extremely sensitive to tolerances and prone to catasteophic failure if they are not serviced precisely.

Also see this technical analysis vs. a Rolex 3135:

http://www.ablogtowatch.com/watchmaker-compares-omega-seamaster-timepieces-caliber-1120-2500-8500-movements/

Personally I would take a high grade ETA 2892-A2 over Omega's bastardized implemention of the co-axial escapement any day of the week.

Pretty much happy with where my $40 quartz sub clone is now. Way better buy than the 8926OB invicta. Brushed off the gloss finish on the center links, took off the cyclops with a butane torch. Realised I forgot to remove the bezel before that it made part of the bezel brown so I just took a torch to the entire bezel and it's now a really nice even brown colour. I then relumed the pearl with strontium aluminate mixed into Humbrol matte varnish (49) then gave it a coat of clear nail polish for protection.

It's got an excellent solid bracelet with screw-in links, solid center links and solid end links. The clasp even has a diver's extension. I'd expect to pay at least $40 for a bracelet this good on its own. It passes a shower test and I expect it's generally waterproof enough for swimming too. Lume's actually readable all night as well.

Clasp and caseback. I might in the future properly brush the bracelet with a drill and green scotch pad glued to something wide. The bezel action isn't as good as my invicta's was either so possibly swap them over but I can't get the spring out this one and I don't care too much right now.

You realize it's just glued on right?
>>
>>58834504
Yes but to use acetone requires removing the crystal and UV cured glue is supposed to have its bond broken with heat

I've been looking for my first daily driver watch for awhile now, however its on a budget of 400€.
A lot of people recommend Seiko, however it seems the only recommended are either Dress or Diver watches, I dislike the Diver watches design tho
Im now looking at Hamilton Khaki/Citizen Eco-Drivers. Are those to be avoided?
What else could I look at in this price range?
>>
>>58834734
Khakis are nice desu senpai.
You'd be happy with it.

If you hand around this thread enough you'll understand that the Khaki is a bad choice

Some anon last night was asking about Quartz perpetual calendars. Is that just a bad idea or what.

About to get an Orient Ray

Is there any reason I shouldn't pull the trigger? Has there been something else released that pushes it out of the the top spot?

SARB033/35

Sporty enough to wear with casual yet dressy enough to wear with more formal attire. It can be dressed up even more by putting it on a leather strap.
>>
>>58834841
It's a shitty watch.
>>
>>58835586
Whats a good watch for 300$?

Thoughts ?

Destitute poorfag. Opinions on any of these?
>>
>>58836278
If you absolutely could only buy those for some reason, the "Rider" one. However, you could still do way better.
>>
>>58836261
Seiko SNK809, Orient Flight and any other flieger watch would be the closest.
>>
>>58836574
Whats wrong with them?
>>
>>58835055
What top spot? It's alright but I personally really regret buying one.

Hey guys, can you recommend me something that screams 80s? Preferably neon colours, but nothing like casio terrorist watch. I know I'm not being very specific, but for you retrowave guys here, imagine something perturbator would wear.
Thanks!
>>
Should I buy an snk809 or snkl23
Pros of snk809
Cheaper
Will suit my 5.8 inch wrists
Pros of snkl23
Looks better
More formal

Bright colors is more like the mid 70's for watches. If you want that 80's AESTHETIC and got the shekels look into the Autodromo Prototipo (Group B rally inspired) or the Seiko Giugiaro (Aliens watch).
