So there was a recent change it seems in 4chan X. Now if you make a thread, the thread watcher will highlight your thread with every response as opposed to only if someone directly responds to you. I hate this, is there any way to turn it off?

I hate it too. I just reverted to the older version. When I make a thread on /vg/ I don't want every post highlighting me, it's a discussion thread. The posts that respond to the OP is usually for a specific reason. A minor annoyance but an annoyance nonetheless.
