How can you compromise your system by downloading mp4/mkv files anyway. What could go wrong.

ffmpeg and its ilk are practically impossible to audit, fuck only knows what exploits are hiding there.

The line between data and code is a really thin one. If there's a vulnerability in the handling of the input files (parsing the binary containers, decoding the audio video and subtitle data), even an inert data file can attack your system.

>>
>>58815397
That's pretty typical scam, tracking ips and getting subpoenas off from market courts to get the address behind the ip at that moment for copyright trolling. Don't pay, they'll have to prove that it was you who shared the file under most legislations(and at least where I live(Finland), it is misdemeanor, not a crime so nobody is going to come in and take your hardware). So the burden of proof is upon that company if you're going to court, not to mention that paying up is basically the same thing as confession in legal sense(and usually wording in letters I've read about are worded so that even though you'll pay, there's no guarantee they don't pursue the issue). Better just throw the letters away with any other junk mail and carry on with your life. Also look into vpns or something if you want to get around the location based content locks.

Using fat32 and not knowing what an ISO is your fault. Using an outdated version of winshit is your fault, anything newer than windows 8 can automatically mount isos. Not checking the file list before downloading a torrent to see if it's a video file or a bunch of rars is your fault.
>>
>>58819961
>>58815397
Also, if it's a legal letter, you have to sign some shit before you receive it to prove that you have received it (at least in my country). If it's just thrown into your mailbox, you may as well just throw it into the thrash.
