that depends what your software does. For example, if it interprets some obscure/proprietary file format with poor/no spec then it's only sensible for you to release it else you get hit by a truck and all of that content becomes unusable.
Same if it's a library or framework that other software will come to rely on.
But if it's just some shitty standard ios/android/mac/windows app then no one gives a fuck what happens to you or your software.
