Why should I bother with anything else?
>>
>>58804615
>systemd
>>
>>58804630
Debian has systemd for years now, you retard.
>>
>>58804630
I don't subscribe to your hipster secrit init club cult.
>>
>>58804702
Doesn't make it just or appropriate.
Deprecated software.
>>
>>58804630

Tell us what's wrong with systemd.
>>
>>58804615
Why should you bother at all? As long as it runs your compiler of choice and emacs then I don't see any advantage between distros. I use ubuntu with i3 personally, and I see no difference between my setup and a similar one on arch.

I just don't get why people care is all
>>
>>58804702
Does it matter how long systemd has been there? It's shit and any distro that uses it should not be used by anyone.
>>
>>58804822
>It's shit
Why?
>>
>>58804615
Because debian is not a distro you install and then use. It's got way too much that has to be set up by the user. It's not as bad as Arch or Gentoo but it's not exactly convenient to install.
>>
>>58804852
Ever heard of Unix Philosophy? It's bloatware. Instead of creating one program for one purpose systemd includes so many different functions, non of which it truly masters, that soon there won't be any alternatives left and all users will be stuck with a system that is less stable than it's 10 years older counterparts and harder to manage for sysadmins.
>>
>>58804853

Are you literally mentally challenged? Debian stable is extremely automatic. Gentoo, Arch and LFS are disgusting memes that should never have existed and they have nothing to do with it.
>>
>>58804878
So you didn't do any research and you just repeat unix bullshit that you read somewhere on the internet? Yeah, a good point.
>>
>>58804853
>not running a minimal install
>2017
>>
>>58804878
Systemd is more Unix than your init, systemd is made up of different submodules, they can even be compiled without some of them.

Excuse your ignorance.
>>
>>58804615
You shouldn't. It isn't a pajeet Arch, it isn't a pajeet Apple, it isn't a normie Windows.
>>
>>58804615
You shouldn't.
>>
>>58804896
>mindlessly regurgitating what you read on the internet
Millennials, everyone. Take a bow
>>
>>58804630

Are you literally an autistic sperglord? On a blind test, you would never have guessed as single difference on a desktop running another system.
>>
>>58804887
Like I said, it's more convenient than Arch and Debian but as long as there are Distros that automate more functions Debian is a meme too.
More automation will always win. It's not about anyone's disability to set stuff up, it's about having a system that is ready to use without any setup after installation.
>>
>>58804914
Wrong.
>>
>>58804923

I'm 100% certain you have not tried debian stable properly. It's extremely automatic. The first install has almost everything perfectly setup with 0 user intervention.
>>
>>58804928
This.
Systemd is much faster, audio actually works and GNOME/Wayland works.

People that do not use systemd use some barebone window managers because no modern environment supports hipster inits any longer.
>>
Two words: outdated packages.
>>
>>58804943
>sudo not installed by default
Seriously, it's like they're not even trying
>>
>>58804954

Then run unstable you sperglord. It's 100% more stable than most "stable" distributions run by 10 little kids. Debian is serious business, the only way to see severe breakage is to run the experimental branch (it's a 4th level).

Testing for example is DEFINITELY more stable than anything any small distribution that has very few users can accomplish.
>>
>>58804959

I just tried a debian live cd last week. It did. Do you remember debian from like the 90s?
>>
>>58804954
stability > bleeding edge software

are you one of those rolling release autismos?
>>
>>58804986
I remember Debian from last year as I was forced to work with it. Never again.
>>
>>58804702
That's the point. Non-systemd rebels will die one day. Nobody supports Grub 1 anymore.
>>
>>58804998

Fuck you and your personal project.

Now I realized what this fucking meme is.

Some kid on 4chan that can't let go he shitty init idea was rejected.

GET FUCKED OUT
>>
>comes with Gnome 3 pre installed

sure, you can always replace with with another desktop but the fact that Debian developers seem to advocate Gnome makes them massive retards who can't be trusted with developing a working OS.
>>
>>58805011

You are a moronic shit. It has full support of several other UIs. Debian isn't the pet project of a couple of kids like 90% of the "distributions" out there.

GNOME is nothing special to debian. It is just another package list.
>>
>>58805006
You look mad, is everything alright, honey?
>>
>>58805006
this doesn't make any sense to me. you seem to be pro systemd but >>58804998 also seems pro systemd so why exactly are you being rude?
>>
>>58804853
>Gui installer on par with the ease of Windows
>Hard to install and get setup

???
>>
>>58805046

I'm happy I realized what this fucking me was all this time. A butthurt sperglord that can't let his random init-clone was rejected and comes here to cry about it daily.

Get the fuck out. Do you even realize how easy it is for the global community of GPL coders to replace a fucking init system.

They could write a new one within 2 weeks and reject you again you fucking idiot.
>>
>>58805050

It opened my eyes to the truth.
>>
>>58805031
I know it's not Debian related but Debian developers (as in Debian Project) are including it in the standard ISOs from their servers and it's the official default UI. that alone makes those people massive retards no one in their right mind would associate with.
It's not like I deny the fact that there are versions of Debian with better UIs but as a matter of fact, the Debian Project is including Gnome by default.
>>
>>58805059
Who said anything about hard? Inconvenient.
>>
>>58805081
> are including it in the standard ISOs from their servers
Waitwaitwait. I thought GNOME can't fit on a standard CD1 anymore.
>>
>>58804853
>way too much
You'd better start listing examples because the only bit of post-install configuration I can think of is adding yourself to the sudo group. Apart from that it's basically as simple as Ubuntu?
>>
>>58805093
last time I checked CD wasn't standard anymore
>>
>>58805081

THE FUCKING LIVE ISOS have several other graphical environments.

As I said, get out of your head that Debian is run by 10 children.

This is one of the 2-3 distros ever that actually do heavy work.
>>
>>58805101
> only bit of post-install configuration I can think of is adding yourself to the sudo group
If you don't enter a root password, you'll be added to the sudo group.
>>
>ITT: Virgins arguing about who's got the best distro while Windows has been and always will be far superior in ease of use and stability

go get a job fucktards. you're gonna learn what a good OS is when you have to get work done instead of having fun installing the same shit over and over again to "find a distro that fits your needs"
>>
>>58805135

I'm the guy that shouts a lot above. I run Windows 10 right now. Run blackbird on it to purge it and you are set.
>>
>>58805135
> This is one of the 2-3 distros ever that actually do heavy work.
Systemd isn't ricing, it affects the workflow.
>>
>>58805135

A correction here.

> Windows has been

You haven't seen the Windows ME era have you?

It was cancer impersonated into poo.
>>
>>58805163
While this is true, look at the state of Linux back then. I'd choose ME over Linux from 2000 every day. The only thing that could keep up back then was MacOS.

Neither Redhat ENTERPRISE QUALITY nor Arch/Gentoo anime desktop ricer but fine for everything else
>>
>>58804782
Most people want to actually use their computer to do stuff like watching films and shows and listening to music, not programming shit
>>
>>58804615
If you need Photoshop or Gaymes you should use homOSeX or Wangblows, but Debian is the perfect OS for everything else.

This is now a desktop thread.

Nice distro
>>
>>58804630
People who complain about system are tech illiterate skids.
>>
>>58804630
Wait for Devuan, it'll be debian without systemd or SJWs.
>>
>>58804615
Because you need a version of a package that won't be in debian stable until next decade.
>>
>>58804615
Fedora works better out-of-the-box.
Ubuntu has more support.

>convince me to use Debian
>>
I don't like Debian honestly. I just think it and Ubuntu require way too much 3rd party setup to be functional. And Debian in my experience always got frustrating with 3rd party repositories because of release candidates not being available. So I use arch and Manjaro now

you? yeah... /you/ probably shouldn't...

You're full of shit m8

If you don't provide a root password during Debian installation you end up with sudo and your user added to the sudo group

All this is explained during installation, you just read and press next

Debian is the official distro of the CCC. That is reason enough to use it, paired with libreboot of course.

Sorry, but I like not having to painfully set up the drivers manually.

>huge piece of software

>NSA was in on its development

It's too large to properly audit and has not settled down to stability as it is still under heavy development. Some config files are stored in databases, in general it goes against the entire Unix philosophy. I removed it from my machine.
