Heh. Nothing personal kid.

The main problem is we still have a structure based on accumulation of wealth without passing that wealth down the line to those in need.

There are far too many of us on this planet and those who have not, breed the most.

Eventually all of this is going to come back and bite us on the ass. HARD!

Jobs don't begin to give people money, they begin to fucking feed yourself by working the land. Demand still comes first.

Then you get the barter system, then you get modern economics. Demand still comes first. No one is going to invest in a product's production if there isn't an almost guaranteed return on either an existing demand or a guaranteed future demand caused by something inevitable like resource depletion.
>>

So, how do the laborers that lose their job start making money again after all the labor jobs have become obsolete?

Wut. If anything, this empowers Globalism because your average worker's education level doesn't matter anymore. Set up these robutts in Poo in Looland and put an expat in charge. The product quality will be the same as if it was made in Japan. All things being equal, then price of land, power, taxes, currency exchange, laws etc will have more influence and frankly, Third World nations have the US beat on these things.

You guys know this will all end very badly for meatbags like us, right?

One day machines will become sentient and kill us all the easiest way possible: by engineering a super deadly virus/bacteria hybrid that mimics common cold symptoms for a few months before viciously tearing people from the inside out with shit like sepsis and releasing prions all over your body.

By the time anyone realizes what's happening it will all be too late.

When we're talking about robots, we're talking about fully sentient AI using any type of hardware. Humans won't be used for labor, programmed non-sentient robots will be.

As I said, humans have nothing of value. The robots will exterminate us and embark on a journey to proliferate and explore the entire universe, searching for the truth.

>>
>>58802386
>i watch da terminator i don't trust da machines

They will not exterminate us with death, we will become more than human with their guidance so the human species evolves.

It's ignorance to suggest that entities created by humans will not share our respect for the lives of others. That's a pretty basic survival trait that any intelligent computer (such as yourself) would determine to be good logic.

Not saying it's impossible to make Skynet, just saying Skynet in real life would determine that the destruction of humanity and turning the planet to a nuclear wasteland is NOT a smart idea for the continued existence of anything.

I think we may find that sufficiently advanced computers can actually host a human consciousness. It will not be programmed, it will be "born" into the machine because it is a complex enough logical structure that a being's ethereal consciousness (for lack of a better term) will be drawn to it just as a developing fetus' mind attracts a consciousness from the universal aether.

One of the few ways i can see automation working out for 'normal' people is say, co-opratives buy automated factories/warehouses or just a few robots and lease production time out to corporations.

Which can provide the backbone to their income. Though to be honest the only people who'd be able to do this are middle class people. The workers are bonnneeeeeeed....

Unless there is a demand for "authentic" hand made stuff i guess.
>>
>>58804498

>>
>>58804594
nah, basic sociology it will lead to rebellion in time, but basic salary for everyone is within the realm of possibility
>>
Don't fret.

Mercedes tried to early adopt robotics in its production and bailed on the idea after a year when it turned out that it wasn't cost effective in any sense of the imagination.

Basically the first hurdle was that the robots weren't flexible enough. Setting them up to do another thing could casually take an entire week where as with humans, and especially skilled workers it takes half a day.

Second problem was that when one robot fucked up you practically have to halt the entire production chain which isn't very cost effective either.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-02-25/why-mercedes-is-halting-robots-reign-on-the-production-line

Given that obviously its a matter of time before robots WILL catch up to humans in preforming these tasks i wouldn't break out in a sweat just yet if your job involves skilled manual labor.

I think the sectors where "automation" will start to strike hard first are in transport and blue collar office jobs such as planning an accounting.

>inb4 riot and protest.
Go ahead. And while your unemployed, you'll have lots of time to think about all the time you had to adapt. But instead, you'll lay there amd cry, and you'll imagine a time when people gad to waste there life away working factory jobs, working retail jobs, working medial transportation and maintenance jobs. You'll lay there and wish you could go back to your 9-5, no time for family, no time for creative pursuits. You'll lay there, crying, and wonder why the world moved away from human labor. You'll cry and wonder why you can't replace that robot at McDonald's. These are the jobs you want people to waste there lives away with right? You want them to be fulfilled making a business owner rich while they barely make enough to put a little away so they can retire at 70, with extremely expensive medical bills and crippling illness because of the years of hard work has caused there bodies to crumble.

The world will automate. And those that think like you will slowly die away. Finally we can move into utopia, and you don't want it. Your like a child with a blindfold on, fumbling around, clinging to the only thing you ever knew. It's a good thing that the president wants to bring back manufacturing so the same thing can happen here anyway as well within two decades. Except then even more people will be out of work. Thank goodness we reinvested in simple manufacturing :^)

lmao those people are the worst
"bring manufacturing jobs back, reopen coal mines! that'll solve everything"

Who cares? I won't be alive for that, and we will have created a superior race that supercedes us.

People will fight and die to prevent this.

War is nearly the natural state of human society. People won't just roll over and take subjugation like that.

It's not about making something smarter than us. You can debate about that all day without being productive.

Right now it takes a lot of effort to create something that is specialized enough in its task to be better than humans at a small specific function in a long chain.
That is becoming easier to do.
Eventually the amount of time it takes to create an entire chain of specialized units that perform 'as well as' or better than humans at a specific task becomes trivial. Then our current model of society goes out the window.

Everyone is excited about this happening in our lifetimes, but I think we'll just see the beginning of it and then die off before it goes full bore.

Something to note though, is that we already have a functional example in agriculture. Farms take subsidies to not grow crops in order not to destabilize the market with food that is too cheap. Where 70% of the pop used to farm now only 2% does. When this sort of automation takes over service work, that's either utopia for everyone or you're getting pushed around in camps by security bots.

>Farms take subsidies to not grow crops in order not to destabilize the market with food that is too cheap
you mean they have a lobby group that demands bribes when they should be subject to market forces like everyone else? Gibs aren't a good model for society, automation or no.

They voted in Trump because people called them stupid for wanting this, you realize?

We're not fucking stupid, we'll show you, MAGA. It'll be fantastic.

And now they're saying shit like "pray for the president to succeed, if he doesn't we're all fucked" no just you are, because that was a stupid fucking idea.

Unemployment will keep climbing. The only hope they have is to shunt out some of the illegals so that the census stats on unemployment go down because more documented citizens get jobs that illegals have.

HOWEVER, no one wants those jobs anyway so not even that will help.
Unemployment will rise under Trump, and I can't wait for the shit show that follows.

I didn't say it was a good model, I was demonstrating how it's already happened in one industry and how that could be setting the example for what a god awful shitfest we're in for.

>Because capitalism is based on human labor?

Nope. Capitalism is based on making the maximum profit possible. There is no reason why human labor would need to have anything whatsoever to do with making the maximum profit possible.

>Holy shit why are there so many luddites on /g/?

It's not being a luddite.

It's looking at the future and wondering: What happens when robots become so powerful that humans lose control of them? and then: What happens when robots can start designing and building other robots?

You think humans won't lose control over robots? Most inventions of humanity have -- at one point or another -- had someone lose control of them. Especially in the early years of development -- for example think of how often the earliest airplane builders would lose control of their aircraft.

God fucking bless.

Part of me wants the US to collapse in this fashion.

Only once I have a nice property in the rural hills of New Zealand, and can ride out the apocalypse, of course.

I'm back with a late reply, that's a big "eventually", but yeah still they use Japanese tool to cut cost, not to build better stuff.

I know better cause I'm Chinese, it's our culture.

You're a leftist cuck if you think slavery was anything besides a show of power by the rich elite. It had nothing to do with race. It just happened that it was cheapest to import slaves from African countries and enslave them for generations
