Because it uses Operas proxy server software - written in based Pike - to compress your sites.

I've been using Opera Mini since I switched to Opera on my PC a few days ago. It's okay, definitely has a few noticeable bugs. I'm wondering what others think of mobile browsers.

yubrowser is the best mobile browser, but it isn't open source so I can't use it.
Lightning is decent, but the way it handles incognito tabs is retarded as fuck. If you open an incognito tab and switch back to a regular tab, it loses all your incognito tabs.
Naked browser is ugly and not open source either. It has literally nothing going for it other than a small install size.
AOSP browser has a pretty bad UI also.
I've been using chromium with the auto updater from fdroid. So far it's been pretty good. I would recommend using it in conjunction with adaway though, since there is no built in ad blocking.
