Thoughts on Avast?
It's excellent.
It's shit.
Bullshit like any other "anti virus".
I still install it on PCs from tech ignorant idiots because I can't be assed wasting my time explaining them how useless it is and if it makes idiots feel safe, all the power to them.

just like any AV, useless botnet.

Botnet, use clamav
>avast
>stop; cease.
sounds about right.
>>58793545
Buggy, bloated and not very effective at detections.

AVs aren't useless for people who don't practice good browsing habits. They're fallible, sure, but not useless.
In fact, cloud-based multi AV solutions are still useful for those who used pirated software or require programs that aren't associated with trusted sources, even trusted sources sometimes.

bitdefender free is all you need
it just works, it's nothing more than an antivirus (no useless bells and whistles), it has literally 0 interaction with you ever until it detects something, it barely even has a ui to interact with, performance hit is nil
I've tried all the big avs out there, and the only good one is bitdefender free. Qihoo comes in at a close second along with comodo cloud, but i felt untrusting about them both somehow. Comodo cloud takes months to analyze files so I got fed up with it, and qihoo is too much normie placebo junk

>browsing
Flash will molest them in ways an antivirus has no chance to do anything.
>pirating
Malware in downloads is ridiculously rare these days, even if you're a complete idiot and download everything you see. Besides, most cracks require you to disable it or add exceptions.

Good browsing habits include blocking scripts and plugins.
>Malware in downloads is ridiculously rare these days
It's really not. Malware is much more sophisticated these days, an AV scan alone isn't enough to avoid infection.

>blocking scripts
Makes browsing a huge pain on most mainstream sites. It's an option if you really prioritise your security but not something a tech illiterate person would want to deal with.

Not really sure why you're trying to argue with me as I never claimed any of those things, but I agree with you nonetheless. Like most things, security requires extra work.
Better than AVG

Pretty much every public copy shop and Lan cafe uses Avast free version. It seems to do a fine job when combined with McShield USB.
Personally I use Windows defender as is because I am not a fucking faggot that uses malicious websites and torrents.

Disable your AV, it's just a false positive! :^)
