Good question.
I quit caring about hardware as much once I was at the tail end of my computer science bachelor.
You can think about how technology and computing will help the world. It will make everyone's life easier through automation.

Or you can do what I did and eschew practical applications and go into math. I have left humanity behind.

Ps I worked as software dev at AMD, so it's not like i'm a failure. I just hate programming stupid apps that I do not believe help humanity.
