How secure is bitlocker?
I feel that I have to ask this question, seeing how this is a built-in feature in Windows.
Naturally I have some things on an external storage device that can absolutely ruin me. From what I've seen Bitlocker can be compromised by a cold boot attack, but seeing as I'm using an external device this seems like a non problem. All things considered I think my files are safe and if anyone wanted to ever make use of my storage device they would need wipe the content.
what are your thoughts?

Just use veracrypt. Although you need admin privileges for ceracrypt drivers.

Don't trust anything that comes with windows.
MS absolutely cannot be trusted with your privacy.
Veracrypt.
Works well for everything that needs to be secured from everyone that isn't the US government or microsoft. If you're just protecting your data from average nignogs stealing your PC then you're okay.
If configured properly, it's secure against your average hacker and low level authorities. If configured improperly, it's secure against only your average normie. It is likely useless against any nation states.

Hmm, not that its really necessary but if lets say couple hundred character password was used. I'd think by the nature of the encryption my content would be brute force proof. A device lacking an OS and one that is simply a box of encryption could work against a nation state nation state.

That makes a lot of sense; considering that this encryption is perfect until you come to the realization that your backup keys may be sent over non-secure networks to skynet
Bitlocker is uncrackable, it's very secure. Even the Feds can't hack it, that's why when the need to decrypt a volume they just ask Microsoft for the decryption key which is automatically uploaded to their servers for each drive.

That's very interesting, The only authority Microsoft is willing to help is the US. Bitlocker in a foreign country in my mind is be more secure. I haven't heard of Microsoft cooperating with foreign authorities.

Negro please. Just use 7-zip to compress your data and select a strong password to encrypt all the files. Fucking autism on /g/ is out of control.
