I'm trying to migrate to Linux completely but running into random usability issues.
I'm starting with Ubuntu LTS. I actually installed Arch, Xubuntu, Debian, and Ubuntu in VMs to see which I liked more, but decided on Ubuntu just because it seems like the most supported distro.
I'm using a late 2013 Macbook Pro. Having issues where my external display randomly turns off and back on every couple of minutes.
Also is there no shortcut to make a window centered ? Not maximized.. just centered at the current size ?
I tried mapping ctrl to cmd via xmodmap. It works fine, but I have to run it every time I start up. Tried upstart, startup commands, xinitrc.. Nothing works.

anyways, what DE? XFCE has autostart settings, not sure about unity.

Sorry for activating your almonds, bro. Unity. It does have something called "Start-up Applications". Not sure if this is the same thing as the autostart settings you're referring to.

I'd suggest just going back to arch, that way you know exactly what is running on your computer and what is/isn't working properly and what features to expect from any installed software.

Ha. Fair enough. Point taken.
>>58787607
Yeah, try setting up the Start-up Applications to run the command you want
>>58787685
fuck off archfag, manjaro is superior in every way.

Displays do tend to suspend...
>autostart
open terminal
nano ~/.config/autostart.desktop[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=MyAutoStatScript
Exec=/home/mac/myscript.sh
Comment=dicks
X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=true
Press CTRL(CMD?)+X, press Y
Do not switch to Arch. Arch is a clusterfuck.

Thanks. I'll give the autostart config a shot.
RE: The display
It turns off as I'm using the machine is what I mean..

welcome to linux. enjoy your stay.
sudo apt-get install xdotool && man xdotool
^ bind this to a custom key combination
are you sure that it's not a hardware issue when it comes to the display? macs have trash build quality.
