I bought a Samsung Galaxy S6 and a T Mobile phone SIM from Straight Talk. None of the APN info Straight Talk gives me is working, and nothing online is working either. Also, changing the MNC makes the APN disappear, so I can't change that at all.

What can I do to get 4g on my phone?

The only reasonable one is airmail and they'd probably find out that it's affiliated with a website which has chen in a cock hat.

Call ISP. Tell them that your computer does not support the software. If they ask questions, say "I run GNU/Linux, and running anything else would violate my ethics and philosophy". I'm not joking. My ISP is also doing this F-Secure shit.

Reposting from dead thread:

Two of my case fans don't seem to start at boot. If I manually spin it it sorta gets going (slowly), which is bizarre. If I unplug one of them and plug it back in, both start up at normal speed. I turned off the "Q Control" or whatever Asus calls it, so I don't think they're being limited by that. Mobo is M5A97 R2.0

any ideas?

Chromium comes without H.265 // AAC support.

Install Firefox or Pale Moon, or swallow the Botnet.

An an alternative, try MPV + Youtube-DL.

Does the video play when you attempt to watch the video with MPV?

If it presents an error message, more information might be obtainable.

Try playing a video in mpv via the terminal, and post the terminal output here in codetags.

Ok man, I'm be honest.
I downloaded Chromium because Firefox was going to shit and becoming unstable and I wanted Chrome without the official bullshit.

>>
>>58784834
I'm assuming you're using Ubuntu:
Open Terminal (search Terminal in the Dash)

Type in "sudo apt install mpv youtube-dl"

Type in your password. It will not show a row of stars or anything.

Wait for it to finish, it should return to the prompt with your username and computer's name.

Type "mpv [youtubeurl]", for example youtube.com/watch?v=foobar. Don't use the brackets, obviously.

Then, copypaste anything that shows up after you initially type in mpv [youtubeurl]

I also suggest Pale Moon to you. It's Firefox but without the shit. I think it supports H.264, but I'm not sure.

It will lower the ambient temps a little but won't help much with transferring the heat from your vital components like a good aftermarket cooler will. Your computer produces a certain amount of heat when it does a given amount of work, and the more efficient your cooler is then the faster the heat will be removed from the component and thus the lower temperature it will be.
>>

Yeah I really can't figure out what's going on. Nothing seems to be working. I don't think I have Ubuntu because searching for Terminal brings up nothing, and I can't get YouTube to give me any info.

I've tried reinstalling the latest version of Chromium, tried looking for fixes and workarounds, third party players. YouTube changed something and now it doesn't recognize Chromium at all, and it changed something in the last hour, something with how the videos are made to run I guess?
Only thing I can figure out, it's gotta be something on YouTube's end they fucked because I can view anything that wasn't uploaded in the last hour perfectly fine.

I still have Firefox and it runs the new videos fine.

What would be a good step by step plan(or goals) for writing a simple monolithic x86 kernel for learning purposes?

Where would I realistically start (since I would guess that process management is not the first thing you'd dive into, even though most resources delve into that first)? Something that would specifically help is an ordered list of functionalities to strive for instead of implementation details.

Keep in mind that i'm a programmer with a background in low level C programming on embedded systems and user-space programming in (modern) C++ and the like. I also have decent knowledge of x86 (and a little bit of ARM) assembly as well as UNIX concepts and a great deal of experience with the Linux userspace (all I've done in kernelspace is device drivers).

I thought you were using GNU/Linux, thus my asking of the terminal, lol.

Anyway, you can download mpv here:

https://mpv.srsfckn.biz/mpv-x86_64-20161225.7z (64-Bit)

Or, if you use a 32 bit machine:

https://mpv.srsfckn.biz/mpv-i686-20161225.7z

Extract the one for your system at C:\mpv

In C:\mpv, place this file in there: https://yt-dl.org/latest/youtube-dl.exe

Then run mpv [website]

I think this an issue with Chromium, not your computer. Chromium removes support for some video codecs used on YouTube. So, you can either use FF to play them, or, you can use MPV.

It can't preform the operation because you're running sfc /scannow. If the computer were booted into Windows, that would work. But Windows is not booted, so you need to specify the directories.

So, the entire full working command would be:

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

This says to sfc:

The boot directory is C:\

And the Windows directory is: C:\Windows

Do you have more than one hard disk / SSD?

bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

Reboot the computer

Well then...
If you managed to get sfc to work I'd assume that your Windows partition is fugged.

Grab an Ubuntu Live USB, open up the file manager, and copy the files that you want to a secondary drive. Afterwords, re-install Windows.

If you managed to get into safe-mode via F8, you could google the XXX.SYS and see if other people have had the same issue as you.

If you need a place to get clean Windows images and a proper activator, use the MyDigitalLife forums + Microsoft Toolkit from the KMS section of the forum. Avoid Torrent sites.

Use a secondary computer to create installation media. You can get an ISO from the MyDigtialLife forums, and you can get an activator (Microsoft Toolkit) there too.

Use a friend's computer to create the install media, or buy a GNU/Linux DVD to install on your computer to download Windows. Those are your options.

Whenever I delete something on my phone with an app (e.g. delete a picture in leafpic, delete a folder with Amaze, delete a video through MXplayer), I no longer see the files on my phone, but when I connect it to a PC, all those supposedly deleted files still show up in the file explorer (on both windows and Ubuntu)

Any idea why? How do I ACTUALLY delete files from my phone without having to hook it up via USB every time?

https://shop.straighttalk.com/shop/en/straighttalk/simcards/t-mobile-compatible-nano-sim--service-plan-st128psimt5nb-p?selected=Y

Straight Talk told me to put in the following into the APN:

Name: wap.tracfone
APN: wap.tracfone
Port: 8080
MMSC: http://TF.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc
MCC: 310
MNC: 260

"Straight Talk is a type of carrier known as an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator), which means that it doesn't run or own a wireless network. Instead, it purchases the right to use towers from AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint."

They aren't all that bad. Some spic left the same review 5 times, I don't know what's up with that.
The first generation ones I had, the sound would go in and out in one side if I moved the cable wrong.
The v2 ones are working well, I had to manually select base boost to actually get bass but other than that they hurt the top of my head when wearing them for several hours (probably from the wire going to the other ear running under the band).
I haven't used the mic but I'd rate them 3.5 or 4/5 for what I paid.

I'd say a little more secure, a little less private. Their update systems are similar, although microsoft makes win7s a pain to set up. Some people like windows 8 for some reason, but if you're not interested in the store there's not a lot of point to it. Microsoft ties its game limitations etc directly to 10.

>>58786482
Straight talk phones can run on any one carrier, not all carriers. Each phone/sim card is intended to work on one of the carriers. The model numbers are different, and the sim cards will often have red maps on the box for verison or blue for att. You want your bands to match the network you are going to use.

Is there any reason a Samsung 850 Pro would run hotter than an 850 Evo? The temperature always seems to be 10+ degrees warmer than the other hard drives.

The bottom 4 drives in the image are all stacked on top of each other, and the 850 Pro & Evo are in another location next to each other. I've tried swapping the positions of the Pro and Evo, but the Pro always runs warmer. Firmware is up to date on both drives.

I've also used a different program to look at the temperatures, but it is the same. Pro is the OS drive, but the disk usage is never very high. Even when I am running multiple VMs on the Evo it stays cooler.

DDG is pretty decent to use but what's best about it is the bang feature. You can add !g to your search to instead use google without giving google any information from you. There are thousands of bangs. If a site is even moderately sized you can probably bang search it. It's awesome because you don't have to navigate to a site to use it, say you want to head to wolfram alhpa, instead of having to type the full address just !wa and it takes you there.

The native search results for DDG are pretty decent, but I find maybe 20% of my searches have to be defferred to google or even bing.

>>
>>58789286
Well, there is MDisc. I've never actually used it though, so I have no personal guage on it.

But otherwise, you're right. Optical storage like CD deteriorates within 5 years and DVD deteriorates within like 10 years. Magnetic Storage in HDD's won't last forever, nor will flash memory or solid state memory. It's just best to get new, better storage every few years to ensure data is preserved.

Now I'd rather just replace the HDD all together than waste money on an HDD with larger storage that may fail eventually despite not being used.

>an i use it to "activate" windows 10? currently running unactivated installed via media creation tool.

You don't even need a key. Download the official 7 ultimate ISO (it's floating around the web, just make sure the sha sums match the official one), install it, and then use microsofts accessibility upgrade ( being poor is a disability, right? ) to get a free official version of windows 10. All the jewing with none of the worrying about stealing a key.

No, seriously. Anyone who buys expensive knife sets are overspending. Blades were meant to be sharpened.

I got a new 2TB internal drive (WD20EZRZ). Should I format it MBR or GBT? Is there a practical difference between the two? I read GBT is more secure because it has more redundancy, but MBR is more compatible with disk utilities. If it matters the other three drives including the boot drive is MBR.

Is it possible the digitalize using only the s-video connector. Laptop has linux mint on it, but I can install windows if it's needed.

So, I don't really know what's going on with my GPU (GTX 970). MSI Afterburner reports it as under 100% or near load in games, but the power consumption never rises above 52 or so percent, while temps remain at 40-45C.

Afterburner also reports my core clock as staying at 539MHz and not ramping up when under load. In my both my Windows and NVidia control panels, I have maximum performance mode enabled instead of any power saving settings. I don't have a low power or temp limit set in Afterburner either. This has only been happening for about a week. I used to get great frames in Overwatch and RE7 and recently it just can barely hit 60fps.

This is a pic of my monitoring with RE7 open.

getting EMI on z97 extreme6 board with a new RX 480 nitro+. Never had it before with my old 7870.

worse in the front port, but still bad from the back port. don't want to buy an external DAC. any suggestions?

not much space in lower PCI-E slot for big GPU like this sadly. it can fit but it seems risky because case cables are so close to the GPU fans.

you can't force the clockspeed higher even in a program like rivatuner? (i know afterburner is built on rivatuner but can always try)

as far as i'm aware you should be able to force clockspeeds to any level with rivatuner, even if the thing is in full meltdown. if it still won't allow you to then maybe there's a powersupply/cable issue?

Dear /sqt/.

If I plan to install Win 10 Edu on PC with Windows 7 and intention to dualboot, should I rather:

a) unplug HDD with Windows 7, install Win 10 on another and plug back later or
b) keep Win 7 drive plugged, so Win 10 installation will detect it, but still perform normal fresh installation instead of upgrade

I always keep older Windows installation for a while, in case something would refuse to work on newer OS.

Thanks for replies.

Mods on /v/ are weird sometimes.

I knew that /g/ dont like talking about gaming-focused PC builds, always saying "take that to /v/" so I made thread like that on /v/ and it was pretty popular, with people showing pictures of their cases, speccy screenshoots, throwing memes about AMD and Nvidia, "i5 vs i7" and discussing.

And then, suddenly, thread got deleted. For no reason.

/g/ dont like such threads, /v/ turns out to be bad place for that, where else to take them?

>>
>>58790953
When you spin a disk around 180 degrees for example, the inner part of the disk at radius 1cm, would have an arclength of 3.14~ cm while an outer part of the disk at say radius 2cm would have an arclength of 6.28~ cm. Though the disc may be spinning at a constant angular velocity the linear speed of each point on that disc depends on how far that point is from the center.
So, the platter in the HDD can actually be moving across the reader-arm at different speeds depending on how far the point is from the center, even if it were at a constant 7200rpm.
