WTF is the deal with this "slack" thing, /g/?
Is it just a meme and a fad?
The company I work for uses HipChat btw.

It's literally IRC with profile pictures.

It's hipchat - except the desktop client isn't complete liquid shit.

I wouldn't want to work for a company that doesn't use IRC.
It's IRC for normies

It's more like Discord but for business. My school is using it now and there's barely any difference between them in terms of features or UI.
It's a meme, but it's only part of a greater fad: TEAR DOWN THIS WALL.
In this case the walls are between private chats, even though everyone ends up using private channels eventually anyway.
To everyone stuck with Slack: use @ mentions liberally so that you spread the habit, or your life will quickly become hell.
IRC for hipsters.
It will be bankrupt in a few years.

It's the hipster version of slackware, but shittier.

ironicly it wont because they go the iphone route and act like they incented something completly new
they even act like the slack bots are something never seen before...
Slack is Hipchat for retards which is IRC for retards.
It's basically the same as Hipchat. I've been thinking about installing Mattermost on our company's server since we currently do most everything like this by email nowadays. But then I'd probably have to talk to them more.

Like everyone is saying, it's literally multiplayer notepad for people that have no idea what IRC is
