Do you really take what you read on 4chan seriously? Do you also believe in feminine penis?

I hear gentoo is really good and not a meme

I fell for the "Gentoo is not a meme" meme. I wiped the disk after three days of barbeque on my CPU while compiling simple software for hours.

Here, anon. Adjust makeopts, jobs, etc to your liking. I'm using this with plasma/openrc profile.
>>
>>58777735
Use app-portage/cpuid2cpuflags to get your CPU_FLAGS_X86
>>
>>58777047
I hear gentoo is fucking retarded and people who use it are literally worse than furries.
>>
>>58777784
Any actual arguments?
It's stable as fuck, yet rolling release. It's the least bloated, the packages are optimized for your hardware, and the portage gives you so much freedom.

You are lying. You never installed gentoo.
I've got a laptop core i3:
Compiling the kernel 7-10 min
Compiling the whole kde metapackage ~1-2 hours
Compiling chromium ~4 hours
Updating chromium (ccache) ~20 min

On core i7 it's like 5times faster at least
>>
>>58777980
You can just -l10n_*
>>
>>58778006
Didn't know that. Thanks anon
>>
>>58778012
Do you have 4 core 4 threads CPU? Try emerge --jobs=8 --load-average=8 package. I've put that into my make.conf to use as the default.
You'll be amazed how much faster it is.
>>
>>58777986
It took about 1h to compile all the base stuff on my i7 laptop.
Anyone complaining about compile times has either never installed gentoo and is parroting memes, or did so 10 years ago.
>>
>>58777986
It compiled Firefox for more than a hour on my i7.
>>
OP here I fucked up, I deleted my previous linux partition so now I can't boot into windows. free airport wifi needs javascript to activate and phone access point is not working either so I have no way to re-install grub or linux.
>>
>>58779074
wtf are you reinstalling your os in a fucking airport
>>
>>58779131
I had just finished downloading stage3 before leaving for the airport. I thought I'd be able to finish up with free wifi or phone tether. the worst thing is I can't even watch animu as I don't have mpv installed

You don't understand use flags, do you?
>>
I installed sabayon and used it for a while a few months ago.
I wanted to install ffmpeg, but gave up on google, and finally installed avconv like it seemed to want to.
Was the answer to this USE flags?

It's a load limit. Saves your cpu from overload.
grep processor /proc/cpuinfo and see how many "processors" it sees. I have 4 there (2 cores 2 threads), so I put -l4.
>>
>>58780612
Don't see any problem if I need English only. Never seen a package localized in non English by default

Gentoo is actually a great operating system though

bump, landed in singapore, wifi even worse here as it needs sms activation. welp gentoo will have to wait until i'm home

For what you get - yes.
>>
>>58785950
And chromium is exception. Literally everything else is within 15 minutes. Apt sometimes is slower with its (((preparing bullshit)))

So fuck off

Look it up? Optimization? Or maybe that I can use chromium with gtk3? Or maybe something that could be disabled in other distros? Or stability?
>>
>I see people using hundreds of use flags that could just be set in their package.use and have less bloat.
Literally learn how to useflag, I have only 4 use flags in make.conf that need to be systemwide.
