I have an old image of Acronis that I would like to make work off a USB drive, but every tool I tried wont work.
Rufus tells me its not a bootable ISO
two other apps I tried make it look like it works, but the PC cant boot of the drive.

Is it my ISO that's fucked? Cause if I burn it to CD, it works fine.

What's the easiest way to determine the most optimal compression for each of a big collection of videos of various formats? I'm trying to make room on an external SSD I use specifically for storing movies and TV shows.

Depending on which type it starts as and which type I convert it to, I'll often convert a video using ffmpeg to a different format and it will come out in a much smaller file size but little to no difference in quality. I want to know if there's a way to determine how a video will come out without actually going through and trying a different format on each video using trial and error. Is there a chart or something, or some kind of program that could tell me that kind of information in advance?

>>
>>58775462
Motherboards have an auto shut off limit when temps reach a certain threshold. Old computers didn't have this and you would fry the cpu. Your computer will likely just shut itself off but it's not good for your chip, get a good heatsink/fan, even stock is better than nothing. Processors create a lot of heat (with the current exception being smaller chips like ARM, many of them can get away with having no hs/f).

Do short preview encodes (Handbrake will do this) to find settings you like. If you need to get absolutely scientific on it then do a random sampling of many short preview encodes.

I would advise that it's hard to go wrong with x264 video, aac audio in an MP4 container, but doom9 is a good place to start your own research if you want to.

You're talking about transferring your OS drive to a new computer? Or just a storage drive?

If it's the OS drive then you may need to run windows repair tool depending on how significant the hardware changes were, that should usually fix it up to run in the new environment.

Two questions, ami/g/os

1. What would be a reliable way of storing information for the long term? I've hard harddrives die on me after 2 years with little use, which is inexcusable.

2. Would I regret buying a ThinkPad without a dedicated graphics card? I'll do a bit of video and image editing, but no 3D rendering or other heavy stuff like that. Also, Virtualization (Android).

If it has enough RAM, it should probably be no problem, assuming your image and video editing aren't heavy.

Cloning to a bigger SSD shouldn't ever give issues, but you may not get full performance out of it if you're going from 512b to 4kb blocksize.
If you were on a unix-like, it'd be as simple as 'dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb ibs=512 obs=4096', but I don't know that clonezilla can do it.

Once Tjunction MAX (as >>58775384 called TJMAX) is hit, the CPU simply shuts down - and even if you could keep it under that, all electronics break faster when running hot.

Liquid-cooling (closed circuit or otherwise) can be just as reliable as air cooling, but air-cooling just has less moving parts. Noctua is among the best, though.

x16 just indicates that it can supply up to 16 PCI-EX lanes which typically only GPU and HBAs use. Conversely, a x16 PCI-EX card can go into an open-ended x1 slot, it just won't have all the bandwidth available.

RAID and cold-stored data in combination as backup for the RAID.

ThinkPads are generally quite powerful and have VT-x or AMD-v, which is what you need for virtualization (aside from oodles and oodles of memory). Video-editing can make use of GPUs to do scrubbing and such, but can make do without.

Is turbo speed the same as overclocking?

Like, this i5 is 3.4GHz and can go up to 3.8GHz
Is that just the turbo speed or the overclocking too?

Normal turbo usually goes to that speed on a limited number of cores, normally people overclock all cores at once.

For two digit numbers, you can use [2-9][1-9], however regex is deigned for strings.

It's far better to extract numbers via regex and then convert them to a number to process them.

Untested, but correct would be something like:
[2-9][1-9] || [3-9]0 || [0-9]*[1-9]+[0-9]*[0-9][0-9]

First case: 21-99, without 30, 40, 50, .. 90
Secdond case: 30, 40, 50, .. 90
Third case: numbers > 100

How else are you going to tell the robots what to do? If anything, robotics would use more complicated languages and programming than other applications.

Everything takes effort. People aren't just magically born with the ability to program. Practice and work at it. Ask questions. There are a ton of resources out there for learning programming. Don't get discouraged.

If it's slow, it's because you have too little memory and it's having to swap to disk.

Alright I'm making an autohotkey script so I can play video games.

This is the relevant segment of script, the key before "::" is the default keybinding, the one after is the changed keybinding. ";" indicates notes
 Space::w ; Up
d::s ; Down
s::a ; Left
f::d ; Right

j::g ; LP
k::h ; MP
l::j ; HP
`::k ; LP+MP+HP

n::b ; LK
m::n ; MK
,::m ; HK
.::, ; LK+MK+HK

I need to get the first segment of the script that controls movement to only allow one input at a time, but remove that restriction for all of the attack buttons.

For instance, if I press right followed by down, I will input a diagonal. I would like the down input to cancel the right input as it is sent. Since certain moves require more than one attack button, this cannot happen on anything but the directions.

Appreciate any help you guys can give

When you transmit shit over wifi, it can be intercepted by third parties. This applies to anything not encrypted, and a lot of information apps send around. There's also a somewhat increased risk of man-in-the-middle attacks. And someone can attempt to inject malware into your system or downloads. There's risk any time there's no wifi password or a public password.

If that's ECC memory, it'd make for a very good fileserver that can also transcode with plex. Only problem is the controller doesn't support pass-through/JBOD which means you'll need to find a similar controller if that one ever dies, since you'll had to add individual disks to individual RAID0 arrays for ZFS.

Anyone else have the problem of very low microphone volume when using a headset on this phone?

I've tried multiple headsets, including the one it comes with and everyone describes me as "far away from the phone", I basically have to put the mic on my lips or inside my mouth to sound "normal".
When I use the same headsets with any other device (tablet, computer, whatever) it sounds just fine and the mic volume is no trouble.

I'm basically asking here since I can't find anything on it online, anyone have the same issue? It's kind of annoying having to take my headset out every time I want to use the phone which means my hands aren't available to do other things whilst talking.

If anyone can shed some light on this I would love it. I'm on the latest update btw but I have had this problem for as long as I can remember.

Tried to format it with GNU/Linux, Windows and macOS to no avail, all three OS report that the flash drive has a read-only filesystem.

It is ded?

I usually eat white flour only when socializing or traveling. High glycemic foods don't make me feel like shit when I'm on my feet all day. The unenriched white flour in Europe doesn't constipate me like the U.S. stuff. I was going to have loaded nachos with the bf today, but didn't find any limed maize flour without folic acid added for making oil-free chips, and all the premade tortillas had bullshit ingredients like benzene. The least objectionable ones still had "enzyme" as an ingredient and I don't buy vague shit because it means they're hiding something. So we're having burrito bowls instead. And then cocoa chia pudding for dessert.

Why does Chrome render fonts differently than Firefox on the same system?

I thought this was based off the OS, not the browser. Nor mater what plug ins I tried I cant make the font look like not shit on Chrome. They just look bad on most webpages.

Install Windows 7 Pro, use Daz Loader, and then run the upgrade here
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade
Your PC's hardware will be licensed for a legit Windows 10 license.

I bought a Samsung Galaxy S6, and a T Mobile conversion SIM card from Straight Talk to go into it. I can't get the 4g to work on the phone, even after trying multiple different APN settings from Straight Talk and the internet, and I wanted to know if there is an easy way to make the phone use 4g. Apparently the phone number transfer went through just fine, but none of the APN settings work, and changing the MNC setting makes the entire APN setting disappear (which is apparently a common thing).

tl; dr I am bad at phones and APNs are hard.
>>
>>58783346
You're right, I did initially install Windows 7 using legacy boot, and daz ran fine. After I ran the upgrade, and licensed the hardware for 10, I did a clean install and switched to secure boot with GPT.

had no issues.

Already tried to make it gpt with gparted but everything i do no matter the OS throws me something related with "read-only filesystem".

Even tried with sudo hdparm -r0 to disable it and make a filesystem with mkfs but didn't help.

DBAN didn't work either.

>>58783317
Yes, they are.
SATA is an interface made for HDDs and isn't really suitable for SSDs because it has a lot of latency.
You can get 2x-3x speed increase from using the new NVMe interface that those m.2 SSDs use.
>>
>>58783376
so after all that first part
did you receive some serial that you can enter during the installation?

Or what windows 10 image did you use to install the fresh clean win10 that did not ask for serial during install?

Firefox has this feature where seemingly arbitrarily, thumbnails will load in image tabs. Sometimes it doesn't, though. I often find myself refreshing many dozens of times to get the tab thumbnail to load, and often I accidentally refresh again and lose it.

Is there any way to force Firefox tab thumbnails to load? In large images it takes a second to load when you switch to the tab, still, but I was hoping maybe I could hold a key while refreshing the tab to always have it load.

it's an SSD but using a different interface. same limitations apply.
also, you shouldn't use the automatic filesystem discard but use periodic TRIM (once a week should be ok).
you can use TRIM even with LUKS/dm-crypt if you set it up, but it has some security implications - namely, the attacker will see which blocks have been discarded, even though he can't restore the data

that ain't low m8, even for a laptop

Anyway try disabling or reducing the fan's rpm, my T420 fan was loud as fuck even with 35c but i disabled the fan and now it's 100% silent with an SSD and being passively cooled.
>>
>>58783724
It's a gaming laptop. 55C is pretty standard.
>>
>>58783724
Not him but how is your laptop being passively cooled? I don't know what that means, sorry. Are you using an external cooling source like a pad?

As a techretarded faggot disabling fans sounds like a deathwish, how do I know my doing this could be ok? It sounds like a sure way to prevent certain PCs from booting safely ever again.

Just disable the fan and let the cpu heatsink handle the heat, no extra cooling devices or anything.

>disabling fans sounds like a deathwish
It is if not handled correctly or monitored, for ThinkPads there's an utility (TPFancontrol) that manages the fan level, or disables it.

I have the fan turned off until the CPU reaches 60c, then it kicks in at level 1 and when the temperature goes below 40c the fan turns off again and the cycle continues.

I also use higher fan levels for 75c, 80c and max the fan at 90c for heavy workloads but i never reach those while on the go so it's silent like 90% of the time.

>>58783747
Oh i see, i don't have any experience with gaming laptops so dunno.
>>
>>58783803
What kind of work?
>>
>>58783842
Cheers for the info m8. However even though I use a Thinkpad too, I use an HDD so I may as well have the fans on if the thing's going to make noise.

Plus I think my W500 crashes at 60 or 70 degrees. I'm not sure, but it did once when I was watching a vid in MPC-HC on repeat and it started slowing. The following time it happened I paused it and checked speccy and my temps were 60-70. However my HDD is dying too, so who knows if it's the temps fucking me beyond slowing.
>>
Two of my case fans don't seem to start at boot. If I manually spin it it sorta gets going (slowly), which is bizarre. If I unplug one of them and plug it back in, both start up at normal speed. I turned off the "Q Control" or whatever Asus calls it, so I don't think they're being limited by that. Mobo is M5A97 R2.0

any ideas?

Realistically speaking, what are the minimum certs needed to get a basic, entry-level IT job?
>>
>>58783852

Mostly sysadmin type of stuff. I can have 7 to 15 terminal sessions open at a time talking with various different virtual machines hosted off-site. Sometimes I will fire up one or two virtual machines on my computer just to test something out real quick, run a docker container or whatever but that is very rare. Besides that the typical office work, like word, excel, email client, etc.
>>
>>58783945
basic entry level IT job is phone helpdesk
you dont need certification for that
>>
>>58783945

Desktop Support really does not require anything. Maybe some big company may require A+ but that would be about the only big requirement. If some company is looking Bachelors in CS, CCNA, Security+ etc. for a $15/hour Desktop Support position (trust me, these job postings are everywhere made by clueless HR people) then avoid them like the plague as they have no idea what they are doing more then likely and want to pay you nothing to do everything.

Someone keeps throwing this link around on /pol/, saying that they hacked an ANTIFA website, which is a lie, since the website was created 3 days ago.

Is there any way to tell if this website has something malicious in it? Would they be able to trace someone who visited the website?

This is the suspicious link in question. antifascism.org

My pc has been acting weird lately. Bsods, freezes in games, network drivers not loading and such.
But now I can't even boot into windows. I get the windows loading logo, then the screen goes black for 3 mins before automaticallt rebooting. I can boot into safe mode but even then processes are stopping randomly, on and off. Is it the hard drive dying or what?
