some 6 cores are that way due to binning of 8 core units, others are 6 cores because they had extra 8 cores and just deactivated two. also silicon lottery.

sometimes you find better chips that can handle higher voltages
sometimes you get chips that struggle to get a 100mhz gain

i had a 4770k that could easily hit 4.7ghz, but my friends was unable to get past 4.4 without shitting the bed
