Is Data Science a meme?
My prof told me it will be gone in 5 years and not to pursue it.
why would data die out? wtf? there will always be data

>there will always be data
not if it's gone
>>58767794
how would it be gone? why would there be a need to not use data? who is taking the data? just makes no sense.
unless someone invents some kind of magical statistics box that a non-technical people can use, it's gonna be around for a while

I don't know how your prof comes up with this wacko idea (and plenty of profs have pretty funny wacko ideas, for example, I actually know a prof who basically refuses to use any languages other than C or lisp, not a meme on /g/ but a tenure professor).
But for now big IT corps are hiring data scientists and the employment prospects are great. Don't really see that changing in 5 years. 10, maybe there will be a shift.

>how would it be gone?
sun flare
all electricity ded
you can quote me. Will happen in the next ~20 years

even if that were to happen (which it wont) youd have no choice but to start over, so data science would still come in handy
your professor is dumb

considering literally anything nonfree is fucking spyware, no it's not a meme.
the actual "study" itself is.
it's mostly stats and basic linguistics at worse.
as a comp sci student, you should be able to figure that bullshit yourself in little time or have been taught it already.

I was talking to some CIA niggers last week and they were real fuckin big on data science. That shit was apparently their bread and butter.
Personally, I'm more interested in hardware, but they don't focus on it much. Plus, you have to be a completely law abiding citizen to work with them.
To answer your question, no, data science is not a meme. It's getting pretty fucking important, but that doesn't mean that it's not just a piece of botnet niggershit.
