Trying to decide between a light theme and a dark theme on my OP3T. I don't really like pitch black backgrounds, OP's accent colors look weird in messaging and dialer apps. White theme looks nice and pixel-ish but it drains battery more and burns my eyes at night. Which one, /spg/?

>>
>>58764317
Will it sell at around the Mi4c pricepoint? It would probably resell at $120 max.
>>
>>58764317
> You get a power-efficient 14nm Snapdragon 625 with 3GB of RAM and 64GB storage, running MIUI 8 out of the box (the base Android version is unclear). The battery capacity wasn’t specified, but if it stays at 3,200mAh, we can expect solid battery life.

zzzzzZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzz
>>
>>58764437
the Mi5C will be between the Redmi 4 Pro and Mi5S in pricing so it'll probably launch at around $200, just as the Mi4C did when it was released.

>>58764520
It's a great SoC though.
>>
My galaxy note 4 is at the end of its life, I just can't continue using it anymore but the note 8 won't be available at least until October.
So I need a replacement in the meantime but it needs a careful balance between cost and performance, I don't want to be stuck on a shitty phone for at least 6 months but I also don't want to spend too much for a phone I'm going to replace in 6 months.

Any suggestion on the matter?
>>
>>58764665
What exactly is wrong with the Note 4? If the battery life is bad I'd replace the battery, if it's become slow and laggy I'd look into custom ROMs.

For a cheap phone I'd suggest
Xiaomi Mi4c or Redmi 4A for ~$100

If chink phones aren't an option then
Moto G4 Play for ~$150
>>
>>58764729
I think some circuit broke inside after a fuckup with the flash, the battery I had at the time (which was a replacement battery) made the phone bootloop infinitely unless charging, even after replacing the rom.
A replacement battery was useless too: it just runs out of power too fast no matter the rom I use (and I tried many just in case).

It's dying, I used to be able to go to class and still have half the battery left, now I need to always carry a power bank and sometimes it does dumb shit like rebooting out of nowhere in critical situations, no matte the rom.

I can spend up to 250€/$ or even 300, not more

>>

Hi guys,

My LG G3 855 6.0 (two years) keeps restarting randomly when using the camera app or apps like YouTube or Snapchat. When it's restarted it drained the battery by 30%.

The restart issue is most consistent with the camera app?
My phone doesn't have heating issues whatsoever and isn't rooted.

I can give health and fitness advice in return if you like.
>>
>>58766570
I'd start by backing up your stuff on the phone and doing a factory reset
>>

Pretty much yes. Just notice that the SD652 version (helium) doesn't have as good custom ROM support as the SD650 version (hydrogen)
>>
Hey guys so my birthday is coming up and the only thing I'm asking to get is a new phone. So I dont know the price point, but I'd like to keep it under 400 (or right around that) since we aren't made of money.

I've used my original OPO for almost 3 years now and it's been superb. But I need an upgrade. The two phones I've been looking at are the OP3, OP3T (might be too expensive to get an unlocked version?), or an LG G5.

I'm on a pay as you go plan with AT&T here in the US. Any recs would be appreciated!
>>
>>58764170

>>
>>58766705
I'd get the OP3T. If you feel it's too expensive to ask for as a gift then maybe ask them to pay X amount and you pay the rest. Otherwise OP3 is a great phone too, only real difference you'd notice to the 3T is the shorter battery life.

>>

>>
>>58766980

>>
Do you guys talk about carriers here too? Unlimited everything feels like a meme, I'm paying for talk text and web I don't use
>>
>>58767028
We don't because there are a fuckload of them, murrica alone has like 10 exclusive ones.
>>
>>58766587
Done so, it still occurs.
>>
>>58767028
It depends on your usage but yeah, you often end up paying for stuff you don't use.

I used to have an unlimited everything contract for 16€/month even though I probably call less than 10 mins a month and can't even remember when I last sent a SMS (I use whatsapp for that). I also use less than 1gb data a month on average as I'm almost always on wifi. Now I'm paying 6€/month for 4GB of data at max. 100mb/s, and 0.05€ per SMS / min of calls.

Ok, it's not huge savings but I got a good deal with the previous contract. Usually a contract with unlimited everything is closer to 20-25€ a month here.
>>
>>58765805
Thanks for the suggestion. Does anyone know if these Sony devices will get as many updates as the iPhone SE? The SE seems like it will be getting updates until 2020, right?
>>
>>58767327
If you want update support then just get the iPhone SE. Android manufacturers are really bad in terms of updating their phones, most phones get abandoned after 1-1.5 years. Even Google's own phones are only guaranteed to get 2 years of updates after release. Meanwhile iPhone 5 from 2012 still got updated to the latest iOS.

I'm looking for a cheap smartphone as a gift

It doesnt have to be anything fancy or high end. It just needs to be a basic durable/reliable smartphone that can use whatsapp and browse the internet. Everything else is extra.

Which one would be the cheapest/best option with these things kept in mind? Would buying used be a good idea or would that come back to bite me in the ass for getting too cheap there?

This phone is perfect as a work phone. Holy shit, now I can throw away this bloated piece of Huawei shit
>>
>>58770056
Depends on your budget, but you have three options.

Redmi Note 3 Pro

Used Galaxy S5

Moto G4 Plus

All three can be gotten for 210 dollars or less and don't slack off on features and specs despite the price, you're gonna have to mod the redmi though so unless you're willing to flash cyanogen or the global rom on it i wouldn't bother even though it's a great budget phone, that samsung S5 is eventually going to need to be modded as well (touchwizz+normalfags=lag), but that's after a year or so.
>>
>>58770056
Mi4C 2gb is great for people that don't do any too crazy on the phone, sometimes it's $99. It uses high quality on the quality of screen and cameras compared to other budget phones, which normies like. It's main downfall is that it uses an older flagship chipset, so it doesn't produce the crazy multiple day battery life a lot of newer phones do these days, but it's still above average there.

>xposed is useless post MM so i never bother

why is that?
>>
>>58770091
No, XT1602 is also dual SIM
>>
>>58770270
RN3P has better custom ROM support, way better battery life and has a SD card slot too.
>>
>>58770402
And worse camera, processor, RAM and storage space. Also the battery is not that much better
>>
>>58770270
There's not much difference between sd820 and sd650, the main difference is the GPU for games. You have to get the 3gb version of the RN3P though, 2gb is kinda gimped. It comes down to if you want 5in or 5.5in.
>>
>>58764170
Anyone else starting to get a little tired of custom roms or chinkphones? I have a RN3P and it seems like no matter what ROM I've tried whether it be cynagenmod or MIUI based, I've had annoying issues. I also miss the little OEM features that are automaitcally in other phones like "pick up to see the time" or "tap to wake" without having to fuck around with kernals. Or like those new fingerprint gestures in some Nexus phones.

I don't remembering tinkering as much with my OPO. Almost makes me wish I saved up longer for another decent phone that already came with near stock Android + OEM extra features.
>>
>>58770490
next time actually assess your needs instead of buying what others are

basic shit 101
>>
>>58770490
www.mi-globe.com

Use radon kernel for tap to wake.

CM has been marginally unstable on every phone I've used even though people claim it's fully stable, people think minor crashes once every other day is "stable" but the above setup has been the best for daily use I've found on my rn3p.

Personally I think Nexus phones are shit because they're always gimped in some way.

>>

Which Asus phone is it? From what I hear they have a lot of bloat apps, most of them unremovable, but if the phone can rooted you can remove any app you want.
>>
>>58770505
I felt like this taught me that having good software is just as important as having good hardware. I can see the reason people spend so much money on phones that can have weaker hardware compared to cheaper alternatives.

>>58770552
I was usually the Xiaomi.eu ROM before. It was more stable compared to cynagenmod but there were a ton of little things that bothered me. Like the way notifications were handled, a bug in MIUI where downloading large apps from the play store caused the download speed to slow down to like 300kbps, MIUI doesn't respect .nomedia files, etc.

The RN3P is amazing hardware wise with it's 4000mah battery, SD card slot, IR blaster, SD 652, finngerprint scanner, and FM radio. I'm just starting to wish I saved up $200 more to get the OP3 after my OP1 broke.
>>
>>58770823
With Xposed and xmiui you can adjust a lot of things in MIUI. The mi-globe ROM uses Xiaomi.eu as a base and let's you customize it further into a custom download.

Alright lads
My OnePlus One is slowly starting to die. I did a lot of app uninstalling, really cleaned the whole thing up, but still it gets hot under practically no load and is losing charge quicker than ever. I've had it for about 2-3 years now, so its done its job.

Question is, what new phone should I get. I was thinking the Pixel XL, but I never buy phones on a contract (I buy a rolling 1 month contract, so I can cancel at anytime) and the initial cost is very high.
So, any better phones for just a bit cheaper? Preferably with dedicated buttons rather than on screen, doesnt matter if they're capacitive or physical.

Build quality feels really solid. Stock rom is really nice. Camera ain't the best, but it's a pretty cheap chinkphone so come on. It takes really good daylight shots and not half bad indoor shots though.

Can you prove that you own one because my experience with mine seems to be the exact opposite of what you're claiming.

How long does your battery last?

Not very experienced with smartphones. I got a Nexus 5x a year ago which was my first more expensive phone. Prior to that I used a 1st gen Moto G for years. I like the 5X, just the battery life is shit and it could be a little smaller, so I've been looking for an upgrade the last few months.

So I got a Moto X Play. The camera is complete trash compared to the Nexus. Returned it. Tried my friend's Xperia X Compact's camera and couldn't believe how smudgy and shitty it was as well. The 5X vs these cameras is like several generations of progress, it's that much sharper and detailed.

Is there no one else smartphones with good cameras? Some of these cameras are pretty well-received in reviews yet they're shit.

I did try my friend's iPhone SE and it took pretty clear images as well but I'm used to Android so that's last resort. And it has pretty shitty battery too to my knowledge.

Not going to get a Pixel unless the price drops massively. Really just want decent battery+actually good camera. Performance is whatever.

S7 is better all round, the one plus 3 matches it for a lot less and the HTC 10 is very similar for less. The pixel has loads of competition for cheaper, the moto Z has advantages, the axon 7 does too. Just take a look at some reviews and decide what you actually need your phone to do.

>>58772917
Save up, that is too cheap to get anything worthwhile. Even the redmi note 3 is out of your price range.

Anyone buy direct from xiaomi store? No issues? In Ireland btw

Im considering getting this phone.

Does it do that alot? How long does the battery last when browsing the chan all day?

I bought my Redmi 4 Prime from Honorbuy. They have an EU warehouse so you can't get stung by customs. Everything went smoothly, would recommend. They sent me a China-EU adaptor with the order and when I asked for a 3-pin one they gave me a voucher.

>got XZ
>plugs in earphones
>undismissable "Audio Optimization" notification
>cannot disable the notification nor the fucking app
>it keeps appearing every time I plug anything in
Fortunately, Greenify on Audio Settings fixed the problem. I have an unusual wish that reviewers note something like this in their reviews.

I need a phone pretty much yesterday, mine broke in an accident.

I'm currently opening a plan with T-Mobile, might not be able to get the Moto G4 anywhere nearby. Is there anything worth getting budget-wise from a brick and mortar T-Mobile?

I see they carry the V20 and such, but I've been out of the loop. Coming from a V10(ugh)

Moto G4 Play then

My Oneplus One screen and touch functionality broke and I don't want to pay ½ the price for getting Them™ to fix it...
Anyone here knows what the best screen and digitizer for the OPO is? (OEM prefered)

You are fucked, just get a new phone

Hello /spg/ I own a xiaomi redmi note 3 Pro Kate.
This is the fifth month of use and I've got to say I love the device. I quite like MIUI but I'm really getting tired of all the little bugs (proximity sensor, notification problems) so I started to look into custom ROMs and even kernels. I'm quite new to this stuff so I'm reading articles here and there as well as looking into mi-globe and xiaomi.eu.
I have already unlocked the bootloader.

Is there anyone experienced who could give me advices?
>>
>>58779782

I checked online and they didn't carry any Motorola phone. I'm heading out to the store in a few hours.

Someone once suggested a ZTE ZMAX? Never heard of ZTE, but it's been a while since I've been in the market.

There's plenty on aliexpress for $20-35

Can't you just get same day delivery from Amazon?
>>
>>58779835
>You are fucked
but why though? is it really that hard to fix a Oneplus? I've fixed hardware issues on touch devices before.. (Not screens though, but I assume it's just a swap of the mb and components to a new screen + frame? pic related)
>>
I can either get a Huawei P9 Lite for 200e or a Samsung Galaxy J7 for 220e, I'm leaning towards the latter but what do you lads think?
>>
>>58780030
I'd go with the J7 for that god-tier battery life. Both have an android skin which isn't ideal but touchwiz seems nicer than EMUI. Also the removable battery on the J7 is a big plus.

>fifth month
im triggered

honestly just take your time reading stuff, when you feel overwhelmed, take a break, and then come back to it later
there's no point in someone pointing you towards some guide which you'll fuck up anyways because you don't understand things.
so take your time, you don't need to know all the details but you definitely need to understand the differences between roms, kernels, firmwares, radios, and which you typically need to install

I suggest becoming comfortable with mainly these two

Phone reviewers in 2017 are nothing more than people who read off a specs sheet and shill the phone. After all, they got it for free so why the fuck would they be skeptical.

>>58778864
Bought from the xiaomi store on aliexpress, took a long time though.
>>
>>58780255
I don't really understand what triggered you.
I'm just asking a general direction to avoid common mistakes and to have advices form someone who flashed his device also because of these malfunctions. I'll surely learn what I'm about to do before doing anything, but I thought that having a starting point would've been better.
Thanks for the links.

it's a meme here that transcended you, dont sweat it

Is there a way to install a pure android firmware on a zuk z2? Does it come with chinkware?

I see theres a cyanogen mod android 7 out for it, so is that the purest form of android you can get on it?
>>
>>58780361
It's hard to permanently fuck up your phone these days, if there's only one thing to understand before diving into the world of custom ROMs, it's to make a NANDROID backup, you're pretty much free to slap whatever you want on it afterwards
>>
Lads, my phone broke and I need a new one. I have a limited budget and found a few that fit within.

Here I am !

If you care about the camera, buy an S series.
If you want a flagship buy an S series.

BUT, if you want 2 sim cards, removable battery, great battery life, and you are on a budget, the J7 is better.

Camera performance is good actually, but I didn't get it for the camera.

Overall it is snappy.
