Hello. I have never installed an m.2 SSD before and I could use some help. My motherboard seems to have ultra m.2 and regular m2 slots. I'm uncertain where I need to put the SSD.

I have this SSD: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA65C54X5749

And this motherboard: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157738

Storage Devices
1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1), supports type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32Gb/s)**
1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_2), supports type 2230/2242/2260/2280/22110 M.2 SATA3 6.0Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32Gb/s)**

Available in 2.5" and M.2 2280 form factors to suit your specific needs.

So you have m.2 sata 3 on both slots and they both support 2280.

Just pop it in and install OS, make sure it comes first in the boot order and you're golden. Don't be lazy, just read, it's not hard.

Regular slot
>>
Just don't use the "M.2 Socket (Key E), supports type 2230 WiFi/BT module"

The right ones are labeled M2_1 and M2_2
>>
if you have an ultra slot available put it in there

ignore this idiot

No, you stupid shit

ITS A X2 pcie drive

WHY PUT IT IN X4?

IT WON'T MAKE IT FASTER
>>
The motherboard has PCIE slots (Where the GPU goes) Put it in the small part of it. Your gonna have to apply some force.

I actually looked at his mobo specs, and both slots are x4 I think. One just has optane support or something.

Hi OP, I installed one of these on an ASUS motherboard a couple of weeks ago.

First point: remove the stickers, it's terrible to have them in when your computer is runnning.

Secondly, the slot shouldn't matter too much, but when screwing it down you may need a little more force than you expect to get it in position. If it isn't flat then the BIOS will not detect it.
>>
>>58754054
They are both the same slot. Refer to the manually to see which one is slot 0 and which is slot 1. Install in slot 0
>>
>>58757381
No he's right. Don't force it, shave off the extra contact pins on the end if it doesn't fit

Also thats a really shit mobo that disables 2 of your SSD slots when one other one is in use.

* M2_1, SATA3_0 and SATA3_1 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled.
* M2_2, SATA3_4 and SATA3_5 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled.

Are you serious? Why on Earth would you buy such a horrible M.2 drive. I am literally shaking right now. I mean seriously I bought a Samsung SM951 for like $50 than this over a year ago and it honestly blows that nasty Crucial out of the water. How could you even? I am so mad right now. I mean seriously I just don't understand why you would buy it. Please explain this decision with rational intent.
