HDMI is digital signal
therefore it doesn't matter what cable you use, there is no noise or insulation

Amazon basics like $6.99 for a 6' one. It either works or it doesn't, if it's not working perfectly it will be obvious.

Well there is definitely noise and insulation. Look at the thickness of a 3' hdmi cable compared to 25'. The point is the the signal is an error corrected digital signal. If the signal isn't perfect the tv won't display anything, or there will be very obvious artifacts. Since a cheap cable will give you the same perfect signal as an expensive one, there's no reason to pay extra.
The manufactures can't sell a cable that won't meet the spec, because they'd all be returned for not working.
