Hard disk failure rates

can someone explain why bigger hard drives are more likely to fail?

For the return rates for HDD's, all major companies are below 1% in reality, so it makes no real difference which manufacturer you buy from, from a consumer standpoint. People always give you muh WD or Seagate stories but its basesless nostalgia for their old HDD's.
