Fuck off originative. I hope anyone falling for the Extent meme gets similarly ruined.

>>
>>58740375
I'm seriously tempted to get these too.
I live in the UK so to get the design I like with UK edition keycaps would cost me $142.93

31.99 - kit
10 - BETA
24.99 - BASIC ICON MOD
20.99 - BAHAUS
7.99 - iso enter
9.99 - uk kit
19.99 - calc
16.99 - delivery

Does anyone know if I'd get charged import fees from massdrop? alternatively convince me I don't need this/can get better elsewhere

I don't think you understand what really creates good resale value.

It's scarcity. And the only ways to have scarcity are by having very few produced in the first place, or by having the number in existence reduce drastically from wear. The first is definitely out of the question, the second you'll be waiting for decades.
>>
>>58741424
The KUL ES-87 has dip switches that allow you to have a unix layout. Another alternative would be a CM Quickfire Rapid + Frosty Flake controller.

Case noise has a great impact on the peak noise of a keyboard.
Although a switch may be clicky, bottoming out is usually the loudest part of a keyboard's operation.
Lube can also reduce the noise of a keyboard.

Help me decide /g/entoomen.
Im looking for a 100% keyboard with brown switches, preferably gateron but i'll settle for cherry, its babbies first mech key btw.

I'm looking at a few keyboard right now and was wondering if anyone can give me some good/bad points about these boards.

I'm mainly looking at the ducky one (pic related) & the leopold FC900R.

The leopold is more expensive and I dont like sideprinted keys so If i'd buy a set the leopold would end up being about $50 more expensive.

I like the looks of the ducky board & its caps except for the calc+media keys. Im not used to having any media keys and I'll probably never use them since I leave all my audio on 100% and control the levels through my amp. If i do decide to change caps on this board I'd have 4 extra keys without caps.
(is it easy to rebind those keys to something useful ?)

But besides looks I know fuckall about mech keyboards so maybe someone can shine some light onto this for me. Is there any mayor difference between the boards ? Build quality, spill resistance, noise damping or some other feature im not aware of?

How common is keyboard chatter with red switches? My A, L and 0 often double or even pentatype when pressed. I wonder if I should RMA my keyboard or is there anything I can do about it?
>>

Well the ducky keyboard has macro support so if you don't like those 4 keys over the numpad then you can use them for something else

because I don't have any replacement at all, I've ordered current one because my old one broke.
It's also just 2 months old, so I am afraid the replacement I get will be refurbished or will develop the same issue, so maybe I should return it completely instead of asking the shop to fix it.
>>
>>58748609
Key chatter is a common issue on mx style switches. If you are worried it might happen again then just get a Topre keyboard since they are immune to keychatter for atleast 30 million clicks
>>
>>58748839
I see, thank you.
So topre are something different altoghether, instead of detecting a physical contact, like membrane or mechanical keyboards do, they measure capacity change like touch screen devices.

It's a shame it's way over my budget, but I'll keep these in mind.
>>
>>58748609
I've only had chattering on one keyboard of mine and it was an old 7G

>>58748909
I liked them a lot until they stopped working right and I have no idea why. Then I started googling why it might happen, and got worried it's very common issue. Thanks, I'll get a cheap membrane and then send a rma request.

Okay thats good to hear.
I forgot to mention this before but one of the main reasons im doubting the ducky is that some anon mentioned that alt+ codes don't work on the ducky numpad. But i havent been able to confirm or bust that myth.

I actually like this. Not perfect though, I'd shrink left shift to 2u, put a 1u \| key next to /?, shrink right shift to 1u and possibly change it to Fn. That opens up the possibility of using the 1.5u key above enter as backspace or delete, with another useful system key put where del currently is.

I made this board a while back. The arrow keys are on a momentary function layer. [ is up, ; is left, ' is down, and \ is right. It's very intuitive to me. You can add a toggle fn layer and just put a numpad on right side somewhere. I did this on my gh60 board and it works fine but I never end up using it since I don't really use a numpad at home.
>>
>>58750095
>do they price gouge or something
yes. most GMK sets sells for under $150, but these are always in the $180
>>
>>58750102
Yeah, sure, but you know what I mean. It was just the only board I knew of off hand.

>>
>>58750158
Aight, good luck, m8. Just keep in mind that the more you customize the layout, the harder it will be to find key caps, unless you don't give a fuck if the legends or profile is correct.
>>
>>58750146
I guess to play devils advocate, would you not entertain the idea that paying 30 bucks extra is worth not having to wait for 5 months to get your keycaps?

I don't have an immense experience with GB's, I've only been a part of R1 Jukebox, R2 1976, Carbon SA, and GMK carbon.

However, from this experience I can tell you that I would gladly pay an extra 30 or even 50 USD to have it in a matter of weeks than months.
>>
>>58750203
Except they are still a limited run and they sell out in a few days. What's the point if you still have to wait a couple years for one of their sets to come back in stock.
>>
>>58750221
one could argue that having your money tied up from months without recieving a product, might make some uncomfortable, even with the constant production updates. I've only gone through Massdrop so far, but I can see how the more independently run GB's might seem a little more "risky" to some. even if you wait 3 months for originative to get the item in stock, you only send your payment once they have the item in hand, and it's shipped out with tracking (i assume with tracking) the next day or whatever.

again, just devils advocate.

the bands wrap around the base of the stem, so there will still be a click, but thats part of the design. however, the bands will heavily dampen the sound of the keys hitting the actual board itself / bottoming out :)

Das uses chink switches. If you look at the previous threads two different anons had problems with keys no registering properly as well as keychatter issues. Topre on the other hand has no keychatter for 30 million presses compared to Cherry MX which is 0. Now the manufacturers will fix it if you rma the keyboard, but why go through all the hasle. You also wanted quiet and topre switches are quieter then any cherry switch. There are quieter switches like matias qc, but those are too wobbly imo. I wonder if cherry cherry picks the switches. The higher end boards get the better switches and they sell off the ones that werent rejected but werent as good to cheaper keyboard manufacturers. All cherrys board have always had perfect switches (i dont know about the new lineup) and old cherry switches are as smooth at least as gaterons.
>>
>>58758847
that looks like an old as fuck black, new production cherry normally have that little indent thing on the cross like the gateron one on the left
>>
>>58758875
that would be irrelevant because most people say older MX-Blacks are superior to the new productions anyway
>>
>>58758875

Matias Quiet Click I guess

It's pretty hard to keep that snap feeling of the click slider suddenly releasing and flying upwards without having it make noise from hitting the main slider desu because physics

No lol. Browns have a bump but nothing is going to feel like a click without sounding like a click.

Gateron is smoother than MX Red, kind of how like MX red is smoother than MX Brown.

>>58758983
Not mine. My reds are completely smooth. You don't feel anything until the key bottoms out. Again, my switches are from 2011 as well as being heavily used. If there was any texture or grain it would have sanded itself away due to use.

Were gateron's even produced in 2011? I remembered seeing threads when the switches were first discovered a while after I bought my keyboard.

I'm currently using this Tomoko cheapo. It's my first mechanical and even though it has knock off switches it's orgasmic compared to a membrane keyboard. Problem is while I'm really liking these blue switches for just typing, it's not so good for gaming unless I'm wearing headphones.

Could o-rings help me with this? Would they make the switches as quiet as they are without the actual keycap on them? I have a Razer Orbweaver I got for cheap and without the caps on this keyboard makes about as much sound as that and it's perfect. I would just use that Orbweaver but honestly it's such a pain it have to always be rebinding keys per game on it due to the limited amount of them.
>>
>>58759502
The sound of bottoming out is louder then the actuating mechanism. O-rings will help dampen it, but the floating design will still produce a lot of noise
>>

What's the best value keyboard I can get for under $100? I'm in the USA and would use the keyboard for typing/ gayming.

I would be interested in cherry switches except blues.
>>
>put o-rings on Zealios

What a strange feeling. I can still hear spring sounds and ping on some keys, so they don't sound as good as Topre.
>>
>>58760005
Lube the springs m8, should reduce if not kill the ping.
>>
>>58760005
>ping
open them up and try to get it to work. i have a gateron kb and one switch had ping, i managed to get it to work properly. But a switch that costs over three times as much should really not have this issue. Don't buy zeal.
>>
>>58760363
I think you're confusing ping with chattering.
>>
>>58760574
No, the ping caused by the spring vibriting, that sound is horrible.
>>
>>58760255
>>58760363
It's a Filco Majestouch 2, and it's not that noticeable, really. I've had worse from WASD V2 with clears. The spring sound bothers me more. Like some keys have this noticeable spring compression sound when you press them.

I've been using a Razer Blackwidow for nearly 2 years now but there is one thing that keeps bugging me. My G Key sometimes writes g two times while i just pressed once.
I have no idea what the difference of a mechanical keyboard or a normal one even is. Can someone please help a noob like me?
>>
>>58763508
Sounds like a faulty switch, ghosting, or poor debouching in the firmware.
Given that it's Razer i wouldn't hesitate to call their firmware shit.

There are plenty of difference, the most obvious being the type and quality of the switches which changes how it feels to type on.

Buying special o-rings made specifically for keyboards is a meme because of the price. You can go to the hardware store and get the same O-rings for $.10 instead of $15.00 or however much they sell them for.
>>
>>58764495
Chink site has them for 3€. 150 rings per bags. And they're in the EU warehouse so i don't have to wait 60 days for the shipping.

Sure, ever heard of macros? You know, when you execute a set of instructions with a single button. Try assigning that to a single normal key, then try to chat in that game the same time. You'll be in for a surprise.

Dedicated macro keys that are not your normal keys, are the only correct way to use macros.
