I have an optical drive that I want to hook up to my computer. I have a mini ITX so no room for one. I bought a USB to SATA cable so that I could use it externally. I plugged it all in and it doesn't work. When it's plugged in and before I push the open tray button it is recognized as a disk drive in device manager. I push the button and device manager says it is an "Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed)" What do? Can I use the USB to SATA cable or an I gonna have to do something else.

you took chance it did not work, dunno why

if there is water damage to the keyboard, that means that the PCB underneath the plastic keys is damaged. you could try applying GENTLE heat over a period of time to see if that gets rid of the liquid. but if there has already been a short, or damage done to the physical PCB, then i'm sorry my man, but there's nothing to do but replace. if you get the model number from the bottom of the laptop and throw that into google, or eBay you should bode well though!

>>
>>58739084
transactions are set in stone via blocks being mined and creating a chain
it's "confirmed" at around 6 blocks I think
it's because of multiple miners mining and sometimes they mine the same block so the chain can split and basically the better chain wins and stuff so 6 blocks is pretty good for keeping it in one chain or a transaction's amount can be spent in two chains and stuff and double spending and stuff

you should read into bitcoin some to learn about it

Check your current memory usage. If it's hovering around 70-80 then yes, but chances are no.

>which manufacturer makes the better gtx 1070, asus or msi?
I'd go for ASUS.

>is a sshd worth it for gaming or should i just go for a regular hdd if my OS is already running on an ssd?
Depends how big it is. Don't get a hybrid; get an SSD or HDD.

<link> is for external stylesheets (among other things); <style> is for internal (but not inline) CSS. You write the CSS right inside the tag. Then there's the style attribute (inline CSS), whose value should be a declaration block barring the braces, and which consitutes a rule specifically targeting that element. Generally, separation of markup and style is good, so inline is usually bad. External is, for the same reason, better than internal. Then again, with internal you get one less HTTP request, but with external, the CSS can be shared across pages, and it can also be cached separately from the page contents.

A while back people were playing around with a algorithm that allowed them to do some weird shit to images like pic related.

It was a popular thing on /g/ for a while with some people making simple programs for it, i want to have a play around with it myself as a hobby while practicing my programming skills but cant remember the name of it.

Does anyone else remember this and what it was called?

Went to a community college. Transferred to state school three semesters ago. Now I have one semester left in the fall and I will have my BS in Computer Science.

I have done not a lot of coding in these classes, a couple projects at most. [insert more excuses]. I feel extremely weak programming. I know people say "practice", but I'm having a hard time doing that. I know a little C++ and python.

Can anyone give me some link to tutorials that aren't a huge drag. I'd prefer not to follow youtube videos.

Depends what you want to do/learn.
In most cases I'd suggest tanking a textbook; "The Complete Reference" to be precise.
Download C++ The Complete Reference and go through it, obviously skipping things you know about. It honestly is the most reliable way to learn, provided you're experimenting with the stuff as you go.

Hi lads

I have a little project to do for school, a database with a java application where you can update and use the database. The teacher proposed something like Postgresql or MysSQL. (I used a bit both in the past)

But is there an easy way to use them with java ? or is it better to go for something like JDBC (heard about it while searching on the web)

Thanks

"DVDs that are burned separately, perhaps as backups, could last anything from 20 years to 200 years. However, read-write (RW) discs should never be used for archiving: they are not as stable and many may not last 15 years. According to a study by America's National Institute of Standards (NIST) and the Library of Congress, some could last only two years. "

This is ENTIRELY dependent on the specifics of your EXACT motherboard.
It's up to the motherboard maker to implement their PCIe on board, and they do it differently for different models.

We need to know EXACTLY what motherboard you have before we can tell you anything. So, a model number.

the speed is decreasing because the the inner part of the hardrive is smaller and quicker to seek/read, it's a matter of physics. The end of the hardrive is always slower because it takes longer for the mechanical bits to read it.

You're running wireshark on your pc?
If so, it can only capture traffic that crosses the network device(s) of the PC itself.

To capture traffic from your phone, you need to install a packet sniffer on the phone, or configure the switch/router/modem/phone you use to send a copy of all traffic to your PC.

Before you ask me how to do that, don't.

It could be either case, really.
But, if the burn doesn't go PERFECTLY, the entire disk should be considered trash. Though, it could only be one file affected. There's also things like error correction to consider.

You cannot --or at least, I wouldn't recommend it-- derive proper power to power external SATA from a USB port due to the fact that external SATA power provides/requires 3.3volt, 5volt, and 12volt power and USB only provides 5volt. Also, a USB port has a MAX current output of 500mA, which may not be enough to spin your drive reliably. You SHOULD look for a SATA power adapter that plugs into your wall's power outlet. This is a smart thing to do.

Windows 10 or Ubuntu. If you don't need the latest version of DirectX, you probably don't need Windows at all. Ubuntu can install and update in less time than Windows 7 takes to only check for updates.
>>
>>58742198
It depends on your drive.
2.5" HDDs are low power. So, I have no qualms about it. This is why they plug into just USB and work fine most of the time.
3.5" HDDs I can't really say, but there may be issues. There's a reason that the enclosures for these have separate power inputs, and there's a good reason that the external ones plug into the wall for power.
3.5" ODDs I don't recommend running on USB power. The drive motor may be fine at low speed, but at higher speeds it may not get enough power causing massive issues with data stream reliability.

Ultra stupid question here, can I make operations involving unsigned and signed integers? Is it recommended? Should I use all unsigned or all signed, without mixing?

Example:

unsigned int x;
int y;
int result;

result = y-x;

I'm a /diy/man, I'm just too stupid to use computers

Question guys

I just upgraded to windows 10, it sucks so far.
Anyways, whats even worse is the picture viewer, the damn thing is so obstructive with the "tools" and terrible auto hide arrows.
Is there a better alternative?
Also, I did a clean install, so I dont have the option to use the photo viewer from win 8

i just use my soudblaster card
it only cost me 50 bucks but I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives out there, I just wouldn't know what to look for

maybe mic preamp?

Yes, you can mix signed and unsigned. First, the signed is converted to unsigned, and then the operator is performed unsigned.

You then assigned it to a signed value, so it implicitly cast (y-x) from unsigned back to signed for storage into result.

With + and - there is no difference if it's signed or unsigned, because C/C++ does not check for overflow/underflow.

My recommendation is to be as consistent as possible. Either all signed, or all unsigned. And if you have to convert one to the other, then do an explicit cast so you can easily see where the conversion happens.

Is there a limit to how much you can undervolt/clock a cpu where it can become dangerous?

I have a old laptop with an i7 2670QM. Even though it is years old now it's still overkill for what I do, so to get more battery life I was thinking of reducing both voltage and clock as far as possible.

Copy the audio file into the Notifications folder in the root of your internal storage. Create the folder if it doesn't exist

LOL wtf
dude i thought it was 4k this whole time
so hold up it's still higher than other phone screens right?
because my pet peeve about this phone this whole time has been that this phone sacrifices battery life and lower temperatures for an improved screen that's barely even noticable because it's so small
is this still true?
>>
>>58743836
You won't damage it but at a certain point it will become unstable at any clock speed
>>
>>58743902
Yeah, it's still an unnessesarily high resolution for a phone, and a battery drain, it's just not 4k levels of insanity. It's a WQHD, not 4K UHD

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution#Common_display_resolutions

If you don't mind the phone getting fatter you can get a beefed up battery that will last a lot longer.

i mind the phone getting fatter
desu i think i care more about the heating than the battery life

I currently have a desktop machine with a large HDD hooked up to the internet. I want to use it as some sort of media server or storage desktop I can access from my laptop on the go. What do I need to do? I know there was an Ubuntu server infographic floating around? I also have an ISP that blocks certain ports to prevent having home servers. Not sure if this will be a problem?

Using the desktop version of the site on my laptop, is there a way to cache Twitter messages I've received (but haven't yet read), so that I can turn off Wi-Fi but still be able to read said messages without triggering read receipts? Surely there's some JavaScript wizardry I can use.
