Okay, so I'm on Sprint, which is archaic and none of the chink phones work on their network, so I'm stuck with limited options, but a fairly large budget. Is the Galaxy s7 a completely shit buy? Looking for a new phone. Basically a normie when it comes to this shit, currently using a 3-year old One M8. No real budget. I only really use my phone for calls, texting, email, phoneposting, music, and movies. Looking for something with a decent screen, good sound, expandable memory and no intrusive "features" I'll need to disable. Oh, and it NEEDS mhl support.

Any suggestions?

Hello /spg/

Know that I never bothered learning about anything smartphone related since I never had the need for one.

requirements:
screen-size range from 4" to 4"5 (mostly something not gigantic)
long lasting battery
can be used as a phone (ie send sms)

preferences:
that USB-C thing is pretty nice
can run the steam appli si I can sold my 0.04€ card(the reason I want a new phone)
eventually micro sd port
if it can easily install cracked application it's a plus, though not necessary
I live in France and currently with the SFR carrier
budget range from 0 to 150€

My current phone for references:

What are the cons of the zuk z2?
What's the catch?

>pretty good rom support for a chinkphone
>flagship specs
>excellent DAC
>USB type C
>zui actually looks nice (if anyone here uses it please let me know how it is)
>5 inch comfy form factor
>above average battery life

Only things I've been able to fault it for in reviews is
>camera not so great at indoor and low light shots
>screen goes up to 430Nits brightness, not the best in direct sunlight
>no SD slot

Is the single button difficult to get used to? I really interested in buying this phone since you can't really get anything better for the price.

>>
>>58743890
It also overheats if you play 1080p videos either on youtube or MX player (anime bd rips in my case) and i already got the famous burn in issue on mine (youtube notification icon burned on the status bar), luckily it's a semi easy fix (root, calibrate colors, use some app to leave the color blue slightly higher than the other two then either pretend the bluish screen doesn't bother you and stay on stock nougat or slap a custom rom+kernel on the phone to over/underclock, run the app again, pray the burn-in dissapears, underclock slightly and tweak the colors again to return the screen to normal), but then again for 4400 MXN- 210 USD i couldn't really complain since my old iphone 4s was a piece of shit, it's a shame my country doesn't sell the models other than the 2/16 one, i feel the better camera and fingerprint sensor don't justify the extra 21 dollars over the 179 USD Moto G4 or even the 120 USD Moto G4 Play.

Octacores are a total meme, let's hope motorola doesn't fall for them again.

Nope, that's the best phablet available and it's pretty cheap too, it makes for a nice tablet of sorts to read manga and watch anime/movies on it, games/emulation are also okay in it if you use your ps4/bluetooth controller otherwise it's uncomfortable to play anything other than DS pokemen games, angry pirds and casual shit on it.

I don't care much about phones but I need one for work after all.
But I refuse to invest in a piece of tech I don't like and most importantly won't last me at least 1.5 years without serious issues. Requirement:

>Android
>5 to 6"+ screen
>REMOVABLE BATTERY (How is this not mandatory?)
>Good autonomy, especially in sleep mode
>Can actually do the phone part well (because this isn't a given, looking at my previous cheap phone)

I'd rather not spend 200$ on a fucking phone, but if it guarantee no engineered issues after a few months and has everything above, I would.

I searched for 3 days and it ended up in a crushing disappointment. I honestly can't find shit.
I read this thread's OP today, doesn't help at all, but I was pleased to see the Oukitel 4000, that's exactly the kind of big, solid thing I want (assuming it's features aren't a lie), but that's too old now right? Anything else like that?

I've recently bought a BQ Aquarius X5 Plus 32Gb. An anon recommended it to me. My last phone was a pos htc one v
Here a quick review:

Size: 5 inch - good to handle, almost everything can be done with one hand maybe...

Weight: it seems really lightweight

Feel: back is plastic and feels a little bit flimsy / hollow. Front has raised corners which was odd, however I got a glass protector and put it on top and its totally flush now... maybe that was the idea. Sides are metallic and feel nice and give sturdy feel to it

Camera - dunno, dont care

System - android 7.0 something, seems pretty stock. Camera app is different I think.

Speed - seems nice and fast, but then my last phone was a crappy htc one v. Firefox with adblock loads very quickly. Chrome seems more quicker though...

Audio - dunno, dont care. But the volume of speaker and with headphones is good.

Screen resolution - my eyes are going so i appreciate bigger fonts, but I suppose its lower than other 5 / 5.5 screens around

GPS - supposedly this has gallieo support, but ive not been able to view them using various gps apps. (There's not may up and turned on currently right?)

Battery - seems to last a long time, charging via laptops slow and via AC is faster.

I'm happy it being a Euro phone, even if its made in china.

>keep hearing about how the iphone 7's battery is amazing and yadda yadda
>20% an hour discharge rate on fucking youtube

wew lad, talk about pathetic

Anyway. I have literally 2 hours to choose smartphone because reasons. I was considering the S7, S7 Edge, Moto Z, iPhone 7 and Moto Z Play. Is it even worth it buying things more expensive than the moto z play? I find this specs battle kinda retarded for something that you're gonna use for social crap, browsing and whatnot, so I prefer the better user experience (i.e. I really like how you activate your camera with the lenovorola phones by twisting your arm, tried it on a moto X 2014 and it was really accurate), battery life, build quality, looks, camera, etc. I doubt you can actually tell a performance difference among them unless you're an autist looking at benchmarks, so it's not really a concern.

I don't really care about the no headphone jack meme of the Moto Z and iphone 7 and I've never had an iPhone before, so I was maybe fancying a go at it before I heard of the pathetic battery.

The S7 Edge has a really pretty screen but I don't really know how to feel about the edges. I heard they are just annoying, so I was considering the normal version as well. Skeptic about Samsung phones though.

Currently leaning towards the Moto Z and Moto Z Play. The Play lacks OIS but I dunno whether that will make such a big impact on the experience. Thing is I literally have 2 hours to choose this, it's complicated.

Should I just grab the Moto Z, /g/? I don't want xiaomi/whatever shit.
>>
>>58751283
Not him but you can find multiple videos online of people literally breaking xiaomi crap in half applying a portion of the force it took to bend the iphone 6. I agree with >>58751333. https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/xiaomi-redmi-4,xiaomi-redmi-4a

Redmi 4A has a slightly slower CPU and 1000mah smaller battery compared to the Redmi 4. There also exists a global version of the Redmi 4A that has extra LTE bands
https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-redmi-4a-global

As an alternative I'd consider the Xiaomi Mi4C. It has higher resolution display, a faster CPU and better camera than the Redmi 4, but smaller battery and no SD card slot. it sells for $98 for the 2GB/16GB version and $125 for the 3GB/32GB version at fastcardtech.com.

Yeah, it's a chore for one handed use. Honestly, the best phone for one handed use is the iphone imo. I don't recommend xperias because they have shit build quality and are plagued with issues. Starting looking up benchmarks and comparison videos so you can get excited about one device outperforming another. Start imagining how much faster you're gonna open the apps you'll never even download on this device due to a 0.5 ms difference, or how the photos you will never take will look so much brighter with punchy colors on that other device. Sure you could settle for this entry level device just fine, but what about the fingerprint scanner? Hmm, let's go for a mid range one then. But what about running 8 games you don't even like at the same time? Going for the upper side of the midrange is much better bang for the buck now imo. But since we're already here, we surely could do with some waterproofness. It will surely come in handy when you take those cool selfies underwater in the pool you don't have access to. Speaking of which, we should rethink our camera choices once again, after all, what will your friends you don't have think about your photos of the travels you won't make if you post them in your instagram account you don't have in case they look like a potato? Gonna be super awkward. Anyway, here is your Galasy S7. Oh wait, seems like the s7 edge has more battery and a bigger screen that you don't need, and it's just a little bit more. S7 Edge it is then.

Pretty, and some interesting features attached to 'Mi account', but it is taking me a bit of getting used to, having only owned Samsung Androids before.

>RAM usage seems high
On the app-switcher screen it tells me '1.2 GB of 3 GB' available, even after I've cleared all recent apps. I don't really know what to make of that.

>Battery life impressive so far
Charged it up when I got it yesterday and it's down to 73% right now after a day of light use. It looks like you could squeeze out 5 days of use if you really had to.

turn your slider all the way up to 'silent' mode. Then hold your volume down button while you slide back to normal mode. your phone should be on vibrate only then
>>
>>58757518
that worked, thank you, thought it resets whenever i move the slider, any more permanent fixes or is that it and i need to wait for them to change it?
>>
>>58757548
Not that I'm aware of, just have to hope Oneplus realise how stupid "feature" it is and change it

The LG does bootloop, in fact almost all phones from LG bootloop, only the budget ones are safe from this.

The LG V10 and LG 20 have an inbuilt DAC if you care about that, however the V10 has been proved to be as bootloopy as the LG G4 (you can sometimes find both refurbished/used for around 200 dollars and they still don't sell), the V20 is one hell of a phone but it ALSO bootloops, just not as frequently (blame LG and their shit soldering on all their phones post G2), still i wouldn't want to risk buying since it happens at random and there's no fix that doesn't involve wiping all your data.

The audiophile's phone brand of choice is HTC, the HTC10 is currently the best for audio since it has inbuilt dac, equalizer settings, the best front stereo speakers of any phone yet and trademark BoomSound, not to mention being on par with other flagshios and amongst the best phones of 2016, it just lacks a removable battery and IR blaster to be perfect (no other flagship sans LG has it but the M7/M8/M9 used to have it).
>>
>>58757863
Thanks for your response, anon!

>G5 bootloops
Fug. I thought I read they weren't really doing it compared to the G4 or v10. (Use to have a v10 but it looped on me.)
Does wiping all your data even fix it? Sounds like you can't if it's a soldering issue. When will LG get it's shit together?

>no removeable battery
Fug. Nothing worse than a phone I can't just get to turn off because I can't pull the battery. Or being able to replace said battery easier. HTC10 doesn't look too bad though. Not a bad price either.

>IR blaster
Wait, what? LG phones have this?
>oh wait that was that stupid remote thing

Still debating if I should try to send my v10 in and see if they'll ignore that I replaced the screen myself.

Thanks again, anon.
>>
Is it just me or does the Moto G4 have a shit speaker? There's audible distortion on calls and voicemails, and on speakerphone I have to turn it to max just to hear it in a quiet house. In a car or something it's nearly inaudible.

The old Lumias I had could be turned up so loud they're hurt your ears.
>>
>>58758197
lel what did you expect from a $179 phone, it's only popular because it supports all bands since it's sold everywhere, comes with stock android to not feel the lag from those shit specs after a year of use and it's cheap as fuck
>>
>>58758197
Should have bought a Xiaomi, they're a meme for a reason. Lenovo is inferior chinkshit
>>
>>58758223
>lel what did you expect from a $179 phone

Not having worse audio than a $29.99 Lumia.

Is Redmi Note 4 the go-to mid-range phone right now? Is there a phone where I can trade the battery for better front/back cameras?
>>
>>58737231
>>58737491
question, my S4 mini has a 3 pin battery instead of a 4 pin battery (standard) and it died. Wat do?
>>
>>58758093
Like i said before all major LG phones post G2 bootloop (G3, G4, G5, V10, V20, Nexus 5, Nexus 5X), also wiping all you data via adb doesn't fix it but fixing it involves wiping all your data, more or less.

You can forcefully turn off all phones with unremovable batteries just by holding power and - button, i mean no one would be stupid enough to not provide another way to forcefully shut them down in case it freezes.

All flagship LG phones have IR blaster.

Send the phone back and have them fix it for a fee of couse, warranty only covers hardware and software defects not clumsy owners, then swappa that shit or sell it and invest into another non-shit phone, HTC10 is your safest bet if you care about audio, otherwise exynos S7E.
>>
>>58758704
probably the huawei honor phones idk

>lg had one good run in until they started fucking things up
Shame I can't seem to do that with my own v10.

>no one would be stupid enough to not provide another way to forcefully shut them down in case it freezes
It wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah kind of remembered about seeing that remote thing. Never cared enough to use it.

I guess I can see how much it will cost me to get it fixed. Would love to keep it but guess I should try to go with something else. HTC10 looks promising. Was also looking at the Zenfone 3 and Mate 8. I guess which ever is easiest to root and has a larger community behind it.

Also I'd assume they would have fixed the phone for free if it wasn't for having broken the screen before seeing as it was on their end. Maybe not, but I read some other forums saying they have.

Thanks for the help though, anon.

Just by looking at them i'd say the umi plus, do any of those come with a snapdragon SoC? If yes then choose that one, it might have a shot at custom roms.
>>
>>58758857
They're all Mediatek phones
>>
>>58758915
I don't much care for custom ROMs, but can Mediatek phones at least be rooted? (I couldn't go without support for Xposed)

Buy a redmi note 3 pro instead, or if you don't care about the size get the mi max; better camera, the earphone jack doesn't break after half a year and the battery is bigger.

>>58758933
Some of them can be rooted with kingroot but mediatek is often inferior to even the lowest end snapdragons, some 2015 mediatek SoC was getting its ass kicked by the lowly SD410 found on the moto G2.

Your post doesn't really explain the purpose of that ''''''feature''''''.

tbqhwyf the most valuable thing I lost was the smug satisfaction of having never truly lost my phone and having an unbroken chain from my first phone to my current one. The contacts themselves were of limited value. I think I may have a backup on Kies in any case.

Redmi 4 Pro Prime a good purchase right now? I can get it for like $200 AUD which seems a shitload better value than most anything else.

If I've managed to root and install custom recovery on my Android phone, does that mean the bootloader must be unlocked too?

I've been trying to figure out if mine is (it's rooted and has TWRP) but I haven't found a single servicemenu code which works for my device.

Redmi Note 4 SnapDragon Edition.

Better cameras than Zuk Z2 according to Indian reviews.

If you happen to know - will it state it's unlocked in no uncertain terms? Because I'm not seeing that.

I do see that reactivation lock is off and secure downloading is on, if that means anything.

Is a lumia 950 xl worth it to pick up for 300 bucks over an iPhone 5? I want dat camera
>>
>>58753077
Yes, since it has marshmallow and an unfortunate chipset version there isn't an official working guide. My only options are A: fucking with towelroot until something happens and then using safestrap to run 5.0 and unlock the bootloader and B: installing windows and odin, flashing what should be an old official verizon ROM for 5.0, rooting and unlocking the bootloader from that (if it even boots), and then updating to 7 from there

Forum guides are fucking schizophrenic so I probably missed an option that doesn't involve rooting or flashing the stock ROM that's on it

alright, I've been an anti-smartphone guy for ages, but for my job I'm required to test A LOT on smartphones, so I'm finally thinking of switching in my dumbphone for a smartphone. Thing is, I don't know shit about smartphones except that they have terrible batterylife.

I'm looking for a smartphone that is:
- small, I absolutely loathe huge smartphones, that shit dont fit in my pocket
- has very good batterylife
- doesn't need to be a powerhouse, I don't watch videos or do intensive shit
- All I need is the option to use internet and listen to music

I live in Belgium, my provider is Mobile Vikings and I'd like to keep the price under 200 euros. Any suggestions?

In desperate need of an upgrade.

Price range: 150-200 euro.
I just want something with a decent storage capacity. (Though my current phone has 1GB RAM - 2GB internal memory, so I'm easily impressed here)
Something that'll last me a few years. And something that's not too large.

I've been sorta looking at the Honor 5C. And looking through this thread, the moto G4 seems to come highly recommended in my price range. Both of these are 5+ inch though, which makes me a little hesitant.

I live in Belgium - provider is mobile vikings.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Moto G4 Play is 5", storage is 16 GB and can be expanded via SD up to 128, pretty decent specs overal (2GB RAM/Snapdragon410) plus removable battery and stock android, good third party support on xda if you care about that

The phone is even cheaper than the regular Moto G4 by a good 50 euros.

>>58763346
Huh, smaller and cheaper. Sounds very good. Thanks for suggesting it!

Getting kicked off VZW in a few weeks for actually my using Unlimited data.
Couple of friends said that TMobile is terrible in my area, but I've got a G4 Play 1607 so I'm going to try them out anyway since my friends didn't research their phones and just bought what darqeeshia recommended b/c it looks good and gots dem jiggabigites an' shit.

If it doesn't work out then I'm going with ATT.

Why have smartphone cameras been improving over time? I understand why things like processors have been getting better, because of smaller nodes making them more power efficient and enabling more transistors. What has been getting better to enable smartphone camera sensors to get better?

It's a good phone but a bit overpriced for the specs you get, but your options are pretty limited when it comes to sub-5" flagship smartphones. It's basically Sony's compact phones (Z3c, Z5c, Xc) and iPhones to choose from.
