If you want to virtualize an x86/x86-64 desktop system on your local machine, it's got the best mix of features performance and price.

It just works. There is also a decent (not great, but good enough) 3d driver so the VM can use accelerated 3d drivers instead of doing software rendering.

Automating it is hell, using it for servers is hell, and using it for long running tasks (1 week +) is a bad idea. It's only good at desktop virtualization.
