How am i supposed to watch my blue rays when the internet is down??
blu-ray discs are great for making backups

Its too much expensive for the moment
And like if is only a player not a writer Fuck off

Got a blu-ray writer a few years back.
Never wrote a blu-ray. Played a blu-ray on it maybe 3 or 4 times.
New computer doesn't have any disc drive
I put one into the gaming HTPC in the living room because I had no other means of watching blurays. If I had known about the fuckload of DRM bullshit involved beforehand, I would have bought a ps4 instead
Has someone had some experience with M-DISKs? Are they worth it?

not for movies, chucklefuck, for burning data onto. Discs are an easy way to have an off-site backup.

For 3 years now I have no CD mechanics on my PC.
Dont even miss it.
Not everywhere possible tho, but in europe we got them internets fast and reliable.
I actually use just an external drive where I store my file for university LAN to share movies.

Not really, because they're too big.
Unless you have 20+GB of new data for every backup disc you burn, you're throwing away empty space.

Do any BR drives work under Linux yet? I remember there was a lot of anti-drm fuckery involved last time I checked.
I'm planing on buying blue ray I don't really like having no hard copies and given how shit NZ moiues and prices are of the online shit
I'd rather have the real deal IMO.
I have an LG BH16NS40 bluray writer. Its pretty good.
The only real issue is LG-Hitachi have been given permission to start producing the first PC based UHD bluray players. While the BH16NS40 technically has the specs that would allow for UHD bluray playback, more than likely they'll release a new model with new firmware and lock down the older models to 1080p blurays only.
TLDR; If you want UHD bluray support (4k blurays), wait a few months for the new UHD bluray readers and writers to come out.

Just installed a Blu-ray drive in my dad's HTPC. Mine would have one too but no 5.25" bay in my new case. Going to toss one in my server so I don't need to keep using my PS3
