What's the maximum recommended CPU voltage for overclocking on air coolers? ~1.3v?
>>
You can't do 1.4 on Skylake anyway without damage in the long term so just do 1.35 or whatever

Your air cooler should handle any voltage fine

The spec sheet limit is 1.52v, and people go beyond that
My 6600k is at 1.32v on a hyper 212 evo
This is a picture of various skylake CPUs, almost all 6600ks and 6700ks

That's really dumb

Keel your PC

And there's plenty of people that have had their 2500Ks running at 1.4-1.45 for years and years with no issues (the spec'd max of that also being 1.52v)

Not finfet

Yeah a smaller die would mean even less heat generated per volt

No they are more closely packed is my understanding

anybody here good with overclocking haswell-e?

The voltage supplied to your CPU is only a single factor in a what determines heat output. There's way too much shit to consider to suggest a hard limit on voltage itself.

Like everything else in overclocking, you won't know what your maximum overclock will be until you go through all the monotonous motions involved. You also won't know what your limiting factor is, be it VRM's, silicon quality, or indeed thermal runaway, until you've reached that point. Even then it isn't always clear what the root cause actually is.
