Friend of mine was into it as a minor hobby during high school. I fiddled around with some of the basic tools on a padlock he would carry specifically to practice unlocking.

I've got to say, the tools and picks really work. Worryingly easily, too.

But it is a fun little hobby to get into. You can get small pick sets for fairly cheap.

Picked a simple 3 pin lock with two paper clips. I lost the key and had no other way into the lock-box. It's not something I want to pick up as a hobby, it took me three hours to do as well because I had no idea what I was doing.

I did when I was in the states. Was hit or miss really. Some locks were easy, some impossible.

Lockpick sets are illegal where I live now, though.

Bosnian Bill is a cool dude and he shits on master locks (deservedly so) but keep in mind that what you sometimes see is locks he's spent weeks/months practicing picking.

i understand the basic concepts and have picked a couple locks just to try it (just padlocks on their own)
