Probably not very because they've rewritten spidermonkey several times in the last 10 years

They're going to replace Gecko with Servo. Replacing Spidermonkey with Chakra would be nice too since somehow MS managed to make a decent JS engine out of nowhere.

Also yeah, it looks like Microsoft wised up, and realized they had to make a JIT engine to keep up. According to the wiki article, looks like Chakra actually only JITs parts of the code, so it spends less time compiling Javascript, and more time running it.
