Why should I use it over LAV Filters Megamix with built-in GPU presets?
And why mpv don't have NGU/NNEDI like scalers?
I know they can make the graphic cards louder but is it really the reason behind this?

Though if i find a problem, i'll check with the plain MPV to see if it happens on that too and not just with SMPlayer.

I've been having a problem with mpv recently that's really bothering me. I'm on arch with kde + kwin and everytime I fullscreen mpv, it won't ever leave fullscreen. even if the video ends and the window closes, it stays open in the task manager in kde and is autoselected, so i can't change windows unless I use keyboard shortcuts. If i uninstall mpv the icon on the task manager changes to the default x window system icon, so that might be related. i really don't want to restart my computer just to fix it since i have a lot of other shit running, but i've found nothing about this on github or anywhere else

It would be useful, although it's not too tedious for me as I only watch long videos (30m-1h) this way.
>>
>>58723359
Yeah sorry I would have really liked that too.

Luckily I've seen wm4 talking about internal changes to mpv on #mpv-devel for better dumping of streams (didn't really get the technical details).
Maybe there is hope for the future.
>>
>>58723359
It would be cool if there was an oddshot-like script where you could save the last 30 seconds of a stream.
>>
>>58723488
You could do that by just downloading the video with youtube-dl and watching the vfile with mpv as it gets downloaded. You could then use encode.lua on the local file. Although you have to be careful with filling up your disk with garbage.

Now that you guys mentioned fonts. Every time I get the video info I get this:

[osd/libass] fontselect: Using default font family: (Source Sans Pro, 400, 0) -> /usr/share/fonts/truetype/inconsolata/Inconsolata.otf, 0, Inconsolata

I guess it's not getting the right font, but when I change it to another one, let's say Ubuntu, it displays the same thing but it actually changes the fonts.

So, what does that message means?

Is there a way (in lua) to parse current or every .ass file associated with current video and check every style for missing fonts?
>>
>>58724256
That should be possible, but you're going to have to call some external programs to parse the ass files and call the relevant utilities (e.g. mkvmerge or fc-list).
I'm not sure why you would do that in lua rather than statically on the file though.
>>
>>58724256
Also if you find a way to match the font name used by the ass file to the font as it exists on the system (or returned by fc-scan) I'd be interested.
>>
>>58716224

I use Triangle.

Bicubic is smooth, but in my experience it ruins show that rely on FAST fucking cuts. IE Evangelion's cutting to black becomes fades to black.
>>
>>58724317
Since its probably impossible to move missing font notices from console window to osd I thought that it will be easier to parse all styles on demand or on beginnig of a new file with lua. It won't be too hard to do with external programs or scripts I just hoped to do it all in mpv's lua.

>>58724419
On Windows there is a branch in registry that have all fonts registred in the system with their corresponding names. You also can get font names with freetype but it will be slow for all system fonts.

Question about mpv on Windows:

What do I have to do to have the audio from mpv output to the tv through HDMI? I can get it to output if I switch the default audio in windows, but there must be a way to have it configured in the player, right?
>>
>>58728394
No

The main MPV dev has actual autism-spectrum disorder and has consequently included no user-accessible way to change audio device on-the-fly.

You'll either have to use the --audio-device flag, set up a keybind, or install a script to assist in cycling the audio device.
>>
>>58728582
>You'll either have to use the --audio-device flag
I did this but it didn't work. Maybe I didn't use the right name for the device?

How do I do arithmatic / formatting with property expansions?
I want to my osd-msg to include the default --osd-msg3 with --osd-fractions. I want milliseconds and shit. Also because I want to use "∶" instead of ":" because I'm using monospace.

So far I have:
"${osd-sym-cc} ${=time-pos} / ${=duration} (${percent-pos}%)"
>>
>>58729039
Try --audio-device=help to see how MPV wants it formatted.

For me, for example,
mpv --audio-device='pulse/alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo'
>>
>>58729165
I got this output:

List of detected audio devices:
'auto' (Autoselect device)
'wasapi/{1109665e-94e7-49da-83ed-8d5b43bf1e70}' (AMD HDMI Output (AMD High Definition Audio Device))

'openal/OpenAL Soft on SPDIF-Out (SB Recon3Di)' (OpenAL Soft on SPDIF-Out (SB Recon3Di))

>>58729471
Ah, I hadn't read the manual when I posted. Now I see PCM is superior. Thanks.
>>
>>58729507
It's really not good.

Upsides:
>decrease CPU load by an _infinitesimal_ amount
(for reference, this is not even significant on a Pentium 4 630, released on 2005)
>if your audio link has ENOUGH bandwith for compressed but not for PCM
(Don't know what circumstances this would be…maybe shitty SPDIF connection to an external sound card jewed via partnership with Dolby?)

Downsides:
>you have to configure it
>it operates separately from your system sound settings (to include, among others, channel count and volume)
>if whatever is ultimately doing the decoding in its own speshul way has issues, you've got no way to begin diagnosing it

At least that's the situation as far as I can tell.
I'm honestly somewhat curious as to why the people that use it do so.

This is one of the reasons, along with HDMI jewery were TV's won't pass PCM audio with more than 2 channels, or won't even accept it, but they will bitstream Dolby/DTS whatever
Also Dolby Atmos and shitty memes like that

Consider this:
git clone https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/ && cd ./mpv && make && make install

"screenshot-format=png
screenshot-template='C:\Users\user\Pictures/%f-%P'"

What's the difference between angle and angle-es2 backends? My HD 4400 shits itself with angle but works fine with angle-es2.
>>
>>58708562
Which OS is that?
>>
>>58732263
angle-es2 is for testing/debugging only. It limits the feature set to what's available in OpenGL ES 2.0, which means most --opengl-* options won't work. If you set any other options, like fancy scalers, you'll probably get better performance with angle-es2 because none of the fancy scalers are actually working.

Do you guys know of a way to bind a key so that when pressed it centers the current mpv window in the current screen?
I can do it at start up but haven't been able to do it on command.
>>
>>58729489
Wait, how would you go about that? I've used Launchy for ages and never knew of such functionality

Is there any Lua scripts or something that can show me what video filters and scaling options I am using during playback?

Hi /g/, completely new to GNU/Linux. I'm using Fedora and I can't get MPV to install. Help a brother out please? :(

Use
--show-profile=opengl-hq
and delete what is already covered by the profile.

Go to https://rpmfusion.org/Configuration to enable both free and nonfree RPMFusion repositories according to your Fedora version, then type this in your terminal:
sudo dnf install mpv
