You don't prefer it you just do not know what you are doing.

Just install ubuntuGNOME or kubuntu. Basically the same thing but for noobs.If you need the hacking tools they are available in the repository.

Now for the helping you part:

You only need to mount the root drive, do some bindings, chroot , and install grub.

If you do not know how to do that GOOGLE IT OR FUCKING USE UBUNTU

All seriousness aside, I have no experience with Kali, however it should not take more than a couple minutes to install GRUB no matter the distro. If it takes more than 5 minutes, something is likely going horribly long (and that's only if you are compiling it from source with Gentoo) Other distros should install it in a matter of seconds. Does it give you an option to install a different bootloader besides GRUB? GRUB is pretty much trash these days, especially GRUB 2.

if kali's installer doesn't work for you, you can try to install debian and then install kali's pakages (that's the same thing)

or you can start with the best pentesting solution on the market: steamos/hacknet you might learn a few tricks, like checking the fucking logs

Kali is meant to be booted off a flash drive, not installed to a hard drive, you dumbfuck. Just install Debian with Gnome and add the Kali repos to your sources, then install the few packages you'll actually use. It always pains me to watch faggots like you try to computer. There should be logs spooling in your first TTY or another one. Check the logs and see if it's actually working or hung. Last modified on log times might help along with looking at CPU utilization, maybe open fios.
