What does your IRC window look like?
Also, do you hide JOIN/LEAVE messages?

I don't use IRC. I'm fine with meeting people in real life and shitposting here, but joining communities online is something that I can't do now.
>Leave this small IRC server with like 5 channels in 2010
>Know plenty of people there, but I don't have time anymore and I want to become a bit more normal instead of a complete fucking NEET
>Years pass, kinda get there but I can never get away from visiting this place or some others
>A month ago
>Try IRC again, because some of my IRL conversations/friends remind me of that
>Old channel, old network, same people still there, maybe some new folks
>Suddenly I feel like shit
And I don't touch IRC no more.

It seems like you think that having an IRC window open on your computer/phone somehow makes you instantly unable to connect with people IRL. The two aren't mutually exclusive, you know..
For example, I use IRC for quick Q&A, instead of getting to know people and chatting.
Also,
>I don't use IRC
>proceed to talk about your IRC use, unrelated to the thread
I can see you really meant it when you said that you shitpost here.

Doesn't IRC basically put your IP up right in others' face?
Doesn't that mean people literally can ddos me and track me?

dumb and uneducated, as well as willing to remain ignorant: the post

I use smart filtering. It hides join/part/quit messages for nicks who weren't active in the last X minutes but shows them for active users. This works retroactively, e.g. if someone joins and starts to talk withing X minutes, the join message will be inserted into the chat log at the correct position.

>>58703652
Damn, didn't know that was even a thing. Too bad webchat.freenode doesn't support it.

Hello sexy java

That's not your IRC client. That's freenode's webchat, you can't connect to any other IRC network except freenode.
>>58705103
That is my IRC client.
>>58705116
Why does it say Freenode Web IRC?
>>58705148
I use Freenode Web IRC as my IRC client.
>>58705166
Can you connect to any other IRC network?
>>58705173
Sure, with a different client.
How do people honestly chat in multiple channels and on multiple networks with these meme command line IRC clients like Irssi?
>>58705357
Same way they can use any other CLI programs, like text editors, for example.
Autism.
>>58705357
its called buffers, you mong
>colorchange on certain always displayed channel tabs to show activity/quoting
>alt+left/right/1/2/3/[...] to switch buffers to proper channel
>>58705357
everything changed in my life when I learned how to use buffers on vim
like everything
>>58705756
Clearly not, you're still a neet shitposter.
>>58705357
