Have you made one?
How? Worth it?
Thoughts on current state of VR headsets?
>I'd like to make one as a project but only if it would be usable with unity and or steam applications.

No, just get a Vive or Rift w/ Touch. Maybe PSVR if you already have a PS4.

I know it's possible just as a project

I'm just curious if anyone knows the route of production?

3D printed some clips to attach a small sheet of acrylic w/ semi reflective film and a smartphone to the bill of a baseball cap.
...sadly there's still no reason to use it

You have to know a lot about the mechanics of eyes, clarity vs. FoV, headtracking, positional tracking, etc.
If you're up for it, go for it. But you'll probably just end up with a shitty Google Cardboard clone.

lol, I have a spare Uno R3 that I would love to use for a crude VR setup.
I don't expect to have the quality results of the vive or the oculus; I just want to better understand the components and engineering behind making one by the means of a /g/ project.
I've seen talk of chinese clones in some areas.

Yeah, I've looked* into ocular part in some ways.
Suggested for use is 5x Aspheric Lenses
but this mod suggests otherwise.

Anyone with an expertise see this guide as a problematic source??

Nobody on /g/ works at Google, HTC, or Oculus. You'll have to find out on your own, or ask StackExchange, HN, or Reddit.
