If you have a picture of your watch being worn from a straight on angle, please feel free to post it along with your wrist size, diameter of the watch and lug-to-lug of the watch. Because it comes up so frequently I'll try and compile a small collection of images of wrist-size and lug-to-lug length combinations that can be used for reference, rather than simply telling people that they should be looking at smaller watches.

If you're not sure how to measure your wrist, you can take a flexible tape measure, or just use a piece of string and wrap it around your wrist, then measure the length of the string required to circle your wrist.

Wrist size should be in inches, lug-to-lug and diameter should be in mm.

Thanks.

Not far, at some point I need to start searching forums to see if I can find examples of photos and see if the poster ever mentions their wrist size, then I can check the reference's dimensions and get more images that way.
>>
>>58694447
It's really not bad. It's definitely thick but on my wrist I can't even notice it. I'm used to thick dive watches already though so it might feel more conspicuous if you weren't.
>>
>>58694872
You gonna put together like an info graphic or another paste bin?
>>
>>58694953
Yeah, something along those lines. Or maybe a google drive folder or something. I figured it would be nice if you could open a folder of images of guys that all have a similar wrist size to you, and browse thru images of progressively larger watches on that wrist size.

While the buttons at 2 and 4 o'clock look better than the ones on the Speedmaster I wonder why they are both so determined to abuse the black-on-black-with-black-in-black theme.

Personally I think the generous lume on the SpeedyTuesday version was a major selling point.

A question that fell off from the last thread:

>>58684812
From pic. some jewels have 2 (blue) screw, others have 3. In a few cases there are no screws.

Why?
>>
>>58696371
In modern watchmaking the use of chatons is mainly for aesthetic reasons, to embellish the movement and follow tradition, as the use of synthetic standardized jewels has solved a problem chatons used to target.

However, when I ask Hanna Lange the same thing once, she told me it is manily because of the size and weight of the chatons, wich normally obeys to the size of the staff.

If you pay attention, mostly to the left caliber, you'll notice that the thickness of the ring in the chatons with three screws is greater than those in wich only two screws are used. That is because the chaton used to provide stability has to be a bit bigger, and demands more gold an thus, weights more, requiring another screw to be absolutely secured.

However, unless there are some other reasons related to the calibers construction, AL&S will try to use three screws to fix their chatons, if the can.

On the other hand, there're times in wich there's simply not enough space to place a third screw, like the one placed over the word "REGULIERT" on the right caliber, where the use of a third screw would push the others two too close to the edge, plus it's not a big chaton.

And lastly, there are places where there's no space to screws, like the chaton closer to the engraved bridge on the same right caliber.

>>58694342

Great question, I owned a 2255.80 and the new ceramic seamaster (both gone now). I only like those models and really dislike the fading bezels of those models as well as the dated look.

My skx007 is one of two watches I am confident I would never sell. If youre not gonna get it this time you will get it eventually. So why not now? I say go with the SKX007 it is a classic and its great. Get it with metal bracelet or youll regret it.

True about the movement and case/links, quite solid indeed. Dial leaves to be desired however, as it gets easily damaged as you can see the blurriness in the photo

You mean the crystal? That's true of any mineral crystal. There's probably an aftermarket sapphire crystal that can be fitted, that way you can lose the ugly cyclops at the same time.
>>
>>58704014
No, the actual Dial/face. Some bump a long time ago somehow scratched the dial against the rehaut, nicking out some of the markers. Will try to get photo later.

While I can't dictate that all pictures are taken under the same conditions (I could try, but imagine how few picture I would get then), if we get enough of them they should still be able to give us some sort of reference if we can manage to collect enough of them. I certainly plan on taking picture of all mine under one condition, and if lawyer does so as well at least for our wrist sizes we should be able to give anons a potentially helpful reference. Focal length should not invalidate the usefulness of these photos completely. While cellphone cameras can very, I bet a lot of these photos will be taken with similar hardware from similar distances.

As for replicating the measurements to make a 3d model of wrist and watch, I wasn't sure about that. Do wrists of varying sizes still have roughly the same ratio of measurements? I thought maybe so but didn't want to assume.

I mean really, for at least a more accurate view it would be nice to also ask for a side-on shot of the watch, to literally just look at lug overhang, but I figured it would be even more difficult to have a variety of people use roughly similar methods to produce images like that.

These images could always be used as part of a larger guide about watch sizing on a body, rather than being an independent reference.

Made with sapphire infused glass that only diamond can scratch, I've spoiled myself with this gorgeous timepiece. The calibre 16 movement has been crowned as the most successful automatic chronograph movement ever produced, completely handmade by man. Smartphones are in the 25mm equivalent range. The human eye is around 45mm equivalent. By default all pictures taken with a smartphone will have exaggerated proportions due to the nature of using such a wide angle lens at close range (ironically also awful for pretty selfies). This is evident by the frequent comments here critiquing watch and wrist sizes. You are deluding people to think they can determine proper size from photos online and they will be unnecessarily biased toward smaller watches and unnecessarily narrowing their choices. It's not difficult to walk into any Walmart with a ruler and trying on a few watches yourself of different sizes and styles before making a purchase online. Thus, we don't need your shit cluttering the thread.

>He harvested it.

Probably. The tritium still glows, amazingly. Although it is a 1997 model so it's half-life will have brought it down to 1/4 intensity.

When I first saw the glow in the bathroom I was like "fuck, this is a relume" but after experimenting with leaving it in the dark for an extended time I learned that the original tritium was still barely functioning, and that the zinc sulfide phosphor was still "healthy" as this watch spent most of it's life in a safe where it didn't get it's shit fucked up from ultraviolet light.

And I should say, in terms of ruggedness that Citizen is one of the best I've ever owned.

It was my every day watch for years. Also for outdoors adventures. It helped me while kayaking / boating. It was at the bottom of rivers, took it hiking everywhere.

I loved the dual alarms and red LED light.

Also that DURATEC shit citizen uses on their watches is 100% legit. It stands up incredibly well to scratches.

5-10 SPY, thermocompensated, anti-backlash mechanism, more power for larger hands, 50 year service interval, instant date change. Aside from the lack of perpetual calendar it doesn't get much better for quartz movements.

I'm getting a lot of criticism for calling this watch "high end" but, even after reading all of the comments, I stand by what I said. There will always be a bigger, more expensive brand of watch with slightly better movement or with a little more charm but I enjoy THIS watch. TAG Heuer is a well established, respected brand for people like myself who cannot afford the "real" high end brands. After severing $6000 AUD (a lot for a student like me) this piece brings me great satisfaction, I'm truly disappointed by people telling me that it's from a lower bracket of watches, not worth it or that I'm wrong for considering it high end. As many have pointed out (and I really appreciate the support), "high end" is subjective and really depends on the spectrum of watches he/ she can afford. This watch, believe it or not, is high end in terms of what I will come to own in my lifetime. I didn't post for any other reason than to share my watch with a group of people who could appreciate it. Don't prove me wrong.

One of the reasons I'm looking at the quartz Seiko's is because I want a Grand Seiko, but the service costs of the mechanicals are crazy. $1000 + $600 for a polish? Jesus.

Collecting, and maybe shoving them up your ass. That is what a watch is used for, TELLING TIME. You don't need to spend tens of thousands.

A car is useful for a lot of fucking things. A decent car will cost you 10K anyways, that is not over priced or expensive.

Even allowing for TAG the term sapphire infused sapphire is so stupid even reddit cannot reach it. Really, do you even know what "infused" means?

Simply stating it is sapphire would be fine.

Also, from that TAG link you provided
(in terms of scratch resistance)
>All of our watches are fitted with sapphire crystal, the most resistant crystal there is.
You hardly need to have a degree in anything technical to realise this is wrong. Not slightly wrong, just totally, utterly and completely wrong.
Clearly TAG looks for customers among those with a gold fish memory, as in living in a really tight bowl:
>Sapphire is a naturally growing crystal and the second hardest substance on the planet, so hard that only a diamond can scratch it.
Yeah so suddenly there is another crystal that can scratch it. But hey, the TAGionistas have probably already forgotten that.
>>
>>58696175

That's a feature, not a bug. The no-grip bezel is that much less likely to get reset during a dive. You might have to be a little more careful setting it intentionally, but fuck it, you have time.

It's a steel watch, it will pick up scratches.
Get a Damasko or a tegimented Sinn if you want something that won't scratch.

Is it possible to buy a new 7s26? My 6yo Seiko 5 gains more than a minute a day, but I could buy a brand new one for 50€ so servicing it seems wasteful. Would it be less expensive to buy a new movement and switch it with the old one?

I only really have to worry and it knocking steel bars, (sometimes jagged) and heavy vibrations

Titanium, radio controlled, good looking
Just get it

Sadly that will fuck up all mechanical watches. Consider a quartz. Maybe a g shock.

As for Damasko, all of their models have hardened cases, so they will all stand up to scratches. I like the DA38 myself.

Hi Gang

I have a Seiko Turtle Batman and SKX009. Which to keep ? I also recently got rid of skx007 of 5 years as I am lookin at either the pepsi or turtle now as my Seiko Diver. I cannot decide. I feel the pepsi bezel would be cool but also the fat turtle is COOL

Posting this for my brother who's helped me quite a lot through life. He is looking after a really minimal watch to wear all day. He wore a citizen eco drive before (sapphire glass). I showed him a picture of the Rodina today and he really liked the look. However, he needs something that has ecodrive or quartz as it is more reliable and less maintenance due to his carelessness. Any thoughts?

Aren't you guys getting sick of this Hobby already?
I've been a watchfag for many years already and I'm starting to think that I've spent too much time, effort and money on useless, outdated technology.
Why own dozens of watches when all we need is a polyvalent watch that we can use in multiple occasions and just tells the time?
Brb I'll be selling all my watches on eBay.

>Wrist size should be in inches, lug-to-lug and diameter should be in mm

Wrist size is important, but not as much as the size of the hand desu. The size of your watch should be relative to the breadth of your palm and the length of your fingers. Some people have thin wrists with large hands, which makes a small watch ridiculous, while others have tiny hands which can only accomodate a near women-sized watch.

I suggest adding a measurement of the palm width in feet, the length of the index finger in hands, and the overall length of the hand from the pisiform bone to the tip of the major in palms.

>When I stumble onto a high end watch pic I'm usually not impressed

Because there's usually hardly a reason to be impressed.

High-end watches tend to be too self-aware, like "hey look at me I'm a Rolex/Omega/Whatever", and if you can't relate to the "prestige" of the brand, its history, or its relation to some famous person or implication in some event, to which only a few select people on the planet are even indirectly related, and in which watches were actually the least of everyone's worries, and which will never witness similar events by its contemporary owners, well then obviously all illusions shatter and it's just a watch whose quality is more legend than fact.

High-end mechanical watches are now the fedoras of the modern era, and indeed too few try to be actually interesting.
