Some guys on Ebay are selling the GLO HD, I have some coupons, so i'm planning on getting one. It's a good version or should I aim for other model? Also, how difficult is to install custom firmwares on this Kobo? I'm currently using a Kindle Touch 5 with a custom firmware.

hardware otherwise is pretty similar on both of these readers, check youtube comparisons to see how screens look, responsiveness, etc.
afaik software is almost identical on most kobos and I heard that you can install custom reader on them, check mobileread.

Actually, you can use Glo HD with a spoofed account and disable the google tracking by modifying hosts file. You can also upgrade firmware locally and never connect to a wifi.

does the kindle fire track you?

I have a Kobo H2O and really like it. There is actually another SD slot inside kobos so if you open it you could upgrade the "internal" memory to any size you want. If you are still afraid of the botnet then install dropbear and change the hosts file to block anything you want.

That said, I still miss the ability to send files to the device using email like with kindle.
