I used to flaps quite a lot of game play footage to put on YouTube. I first started off with Windows Live Movie Maker for Windows 7 back in 2011, was easy to use however the exported video quality wasn't that great. So I tormented Sony Vegas and learned how to use it from YouTube tutorials. It isn't too hard once you get to grips with it. Exporting to H. 264 was much better quality than what movie maker could achieve.

Now I am editing 4K footage a lot I have been forced to switch over to Adobe premiere. It is more intimidating than Sony Vegas but I get along with it much better now I understand the basics. If you are familiar with photoshop some parts will be very similar.

TLDR, use Sony Vegas if you aren't planning on rendering 4K content. Learn how to use it from YouTube tutorials and just practice a lot. It is fun!
