>Better cpu

Surely mobile cpus are beyond past the point of diminishing returns. Apart from being marginally more power efficient and maybe faster quick charging, do they offer anything else? The SD 625 in my brother's Xiaomi redmi 4 keeps up with the SD 800 which in turn can keep up quite comfortably with today's flagships. I would happily take a slightly older or less powerful CPU for a reduced cost overall.
>>
>>58677992
no anon, you're not a cool kid if you aren't rolling an 8 core 3ghz chip and 8 gigabytes of ram
any phone that doesn't have that is borderline unusable

if there's anything apple does well, it's actually optimizing software for hardware instead of making up for shortcomings by just pumping up the specs
>>
>>58676960
I was actually going to purchase the pixel but the bezels made me not want it. They served no purpose and they might have as well put boomspeakers in the front to occupy that space. I might buy a S8 if the bezels are really small.

Don't really care for the high end one. The budget phone appeals much more to me though.

Here's what they should add to make it god tier

>smaller bezels
>double front facing speakers
>expandable storage
>removable battery as a bonus

Other than those, I literally don't care. The phone specs aren't very important, since I don't play any games or do anything that requires heavy performance.
I'm not a big camera user either, but it looks like google is focusing on the camera anyway.
If they can get all of this in a phone and sell it for $350-$300 that would be great.

was hoping it would start a trend but now everyone is competing for a luxury product and they're all practically doing nothing for any real gains in QoL. unless you're playing 3d games or emulating on it I really can't understand why anyone spends over 500 dollars for a phone to check emails and Facebook.

>>

>boo hoo there are still bezels
I hate where the industry is going. And the stupid reviewers and customers praised the shit out of the Mi Mix, because it had so small bezels, and now the whole industry will be going that way.

Have any of you stupid fucks tried to use a bezelless phone? Unless you're holding it in a very uncomfortable, weird way, you are keep accidentally press shit on the edges.

Side bezels are incredibly important for usability, just as top and bottom bezels.
You think apple doesn't have the technology to make a bezelless phones? No, they just don't want to go down the stupid way (in this sense, they do in every other way)
2 years I swear, and everyone will realize this and there will be soo much crying about how unusable their 99% display to body ratio phone.

Really small bezels are pretty on pictures, but pretty shit in real life. Even my S7 has too small side bezels, and I keep pressing the sides accidentally, just like the bottom capacitive buttons (and literally everyone who owns an s7 or s7edge can confirm this is an issue without a case)

HOWEVER I agree that they should have put a speaker on the bottom bezel, so it doesn't look dumb, and actually sounds better for the person who's watching it, instead the person sitting next to you, or your dick.

pixel and iSheep will be supported for longer than the s7. Only going by samsung past track record.

But that is not to say it isnt a good phone, because it really is. (i have the edge)

Why its good:
>Screen is perfect
>Even with power saver on performance is brilliant
>Battery life for someone who isnt a heavy user is really good (1 charge 21/2 days+)
>built in ability to change theme (none of that shitty touchwiz UI cancer)

The bad:
>Finger print sensor is dodgy for me, however its probably just me.
>if you have fat/paddy palms you will touch the screen while stretching.
>lacking USB C
>Camera is 4:3 natively
>>
>>58682053
You are right, those gadgets are helping, but don't you feel like it's a little bit weird that you cannot use your 800$ device comfortably out of the box, and you have to buy gadgets to improve it to usable?

>>58682085
Owning an S7 made me see clearly how they should never ever put anything you have to touch on the bottom of the phone. You either have to twist your thumb, or change grip to be able to press them, it's incredibly annoying. Oh, and it's only the most pressed buttons on the phone...
On screen buttons are much better. They're customizable to your liking, they hide when you truly need screen space, and they're on a comfortable place. Capacitive buttons on the bottom are cancer. Physical home button on the bottom with fingerprint reader is cancer.

>>58682164

Anything with a screen bigger than 5" is uncomfortable for me to use one-handed anyway. Since i like large screens, its no big deal to stick a flygrip to it, also, I've dropped my phones much less since using such devices. I'll trade the bezel for a flygrip any day.

Bezels are important for usability and durability, yes. But there's absolutely no reason we should have inch thick chins on our phones, especially when google insists on using on screen buttons.

This is even more true on laptops that should have large 3:2 displays that have next to no bezels. Logos and webcams can fuck off forever.

It's not like the price per se is high as in "it's a lot of money", 800-900 is nothing in the first world. It's that there are better alternatives for less. The only thing Pixels excels at is the camera while the rest is inferior to iPhone 6.

Price won't change much, Pixel got a shitty availability and basically no one knows about the things. The people who know, would only buy it for development on Lagdroid.

Google needs to get the people who buy Samsung, not trying to outapple Apple, and for that they would need some meme features and a catchy design.

What android really needs to work on is everyday smoothness. I used my friend's iphone SE and the touch responsiveness is unreal. Noticeably better than my Pixel. Remember that microsoft touch latency tech demo where they showed what 1ms looks like? Yeah, it feels like that.

>>58682070
>sd slow af compared to internal storage

And that matters because? You are going to worry about size when you run out of storage on your phone, not speeds. Also current microsd cards already have 50+MBps read speeds and since you are going to store photos and videos on it speed doesn't really matter anyway.

>fast charge is a replacement for removable batteries

You do realize that batteries tend to degrade over time, right?

>inb4 buying a new phone annually
>>
>>58687041
>le wasting money makes me rich meme

It only shows that you are bad at managing money.
>>
>>58692881
>You are going to worry about size when you run out of storage on your phone, not speeds.
You notice slower speeds ALL the time, while with 64-128gb you'd need to be really careless with storage to get to the limit. Not everyone stores their entire music and anime collection there. SD cards were great in times with low base storage and shitty internal storage speeds, in times of NVMe and 64+gb they are a niche.

>You do realize that batteries tend to degrade over time, right?
Unless it's a shitty battery and you actively try to kill it, it should be still fine after 2-3 years, about as long as most people hold to their phone. Afterwards you can still replace it in most cases, just not as easy. The downsides it would add to the design are not worth it for most.
>>
>>58693383
>You notice slower speeds ALL the time

Yeah, having desktop SSD tier read speeds sure is useful when you are looking at kb sized gallery thumbnails. Please tell me an actual case in which will make me think that a 90MBps micro sd is not fast enough.

>it should be still fine after 2-3 years

The thing is batteries lose some of their capacity after such a time period, which becomes noticeable.

>The downsides it would add to the design

Like what? Not being able to make the phone 0.1mm thinner as if anyone cares?
>>
>>58682164
what's bad about a 4:3 cam?
I guess the weird multi ratio sensor in sony's z5c is slightly better, but not that great desu
>>
>>58688252
There's no point in a bigger camera sensor if photos come out blurry AF which is why OIS is a REQUIRENMENT for anyone who wants to take pictures with a phone especially since 99.999% of people do not carry a 100KG tripod with them at all times.
>>
>>58693808
>micro sd speed
It's actually noticeable with little things like that, especially if you go from fast storage back to micro sd. Is it a big deal? Hell no, but a big lag and the likes isn't a big deal either on a fucking phone, just when spending over 500 on the stuff, you'd want the very best experience possible, and faster storage is the way.

>The thing is batteries lose some of their capacity after such a time period, which becomes noticeable.
On older phones that barely lasted one day, sure. These days 2 days is doable, so after 3 years you'll be at 1,5 days, noticeable but not a big deal.

>Like what? Not being able to make the phone 0.1mm thinner as if anyone cares?
For one ... everybody does. Phones get thinner because most people want it. Besides, it'd be quite a bit more. There is also waterproof-ness to consider. It's a nice to have sure but just not important enough to really notice for most.

I had a S2 and bought and extra battery because it was not always possible to charge during traveling, barely used it because it did last long enough with lighter use (and changing being annoying) and gave it with old battery to my mom, still runs long enough for not being annoying for her, mind it's a phone from 2011.
>>
>>58693808
Let me guess, your monitor is probably a 1366x768 TN panel, right?
>>
>>58694630
>when spending over 500 on the stuff, you'd want the very best experience possible, and faster storage is the way.

And that's my point, I expect to use that thing for a while as I didn't go cheap and buy some chinkshit. I wouldn't pay that much if I wasn't going to throughly use it, which is why I need expandable storage. Saying that 64GB should be enough for everyone is like saying 640K of RAM pught to be enough for everyone. Again, having fast storage plus slower but fast enough storage is a better choice and you might not need it, still it isn't a valid reason to say that it's unnecessary for everyone.

>These days 2 days is doable
Maybe with 5 minutes of SoT and power saving features. I'm still interested if you'd be kind enough to show me a modern phone that actually lasts 2 days under normal use.

>For one ... everybody does. Phones get thinner because most people want it.

Not really. Manufacturers keep pushing the thinner meme because it's a good way of compensating for the lack of innovation. You need to give the marketing team something so that they can try to make your totally different rectangular block stand out. Shit battery life is a common complaint these days and if you don't believe me, just ask someone you onow whether he/she would want a thinner phone with worse battery life.

>waterproof-ness
My S5 says hi.

>it did last long enough with lighter use
That makes me even more sad that my S2's battery has gone to shit. It's still o good backup phone with CM13, though.

>>58694928
A 15 inch 1080p IPS panel and yes it's a laptop. I wouldn't use a TN panel just as I wouldn't buy a phone without expandable storage. Everyone has their standards.

>>
>>58695399
>having fast storage plus slower but fast enough storage is a better choice and you might not need it, still it isn't a valid reason to say that it's unnecessary for everyone
Meh, I'd rather have fast one, if there is at least 64GB of it but sure others might prefer more memory, just not enough people to make it worth for most manufacturers.

Also it's very unlikely that the size of shit will rise massively on phones unless we add memes like 4K videos. Size of photos and mp3s stayed pretty constant for decades and even though pics are bound to get a bit larger, it's unlikely to explode (nor affect your phone with the older camera)

>a modern phone that actually lasts 2 days under normal use
iPhone SE, 7+ and many other phablets. Probably also S7 and OnePlus3. Obviously depends on YOUR normal use but generally from what I heard, the by far biggest drain for most people is the FB app, assuming the rest of the system isn't somewhat fucked. I could get 2 days with my old Z3C sometimes too but it was very inconsistent despite similar usage.

>Manufacturers keep pushing the thinner meme because it's a good way of compensating for the lack of innovation.
Even the best marketing guy can't sell that shit anymore. Thin is pretty much the new normal, only a fat phone stands out.

> just ask someone you onow whether he/she would want a thinner phone with worse battery life
Luckily it improves both ways.

>My S5 says hi.
Probably the last Samsung phone before they went full Apple meming. Although it brings the downside of worser and creakier design. Back in the day I'd prefer it, these days I'd rather want an unibody, and well the market is going there too. Like it or not, replaceable battery and micro SD cards are dying on most premium phones. Who knows how long the headphone jack will last.

Can't even get a Pixel phone right now due to it being perpetually out of stock. Can't imagine what a shitshow pixel 2 will be.

>Meh, I'd rather have fast one, if there is at least 64GB
Well that's my point. I would rather have both fast storage and the option to expand it in case I run out of storage.

>iPhone SE, 7+ and many other phablets. Probably also S7 and OnePlus3

Sounds genuinely interesting. Could you post some links to reviews/tests? I could get 1.5 days of usage out of my S5 by using it for around 10 minutes since the last charge but bear in mind it has CM and amplify. As you said, most people use resource hogs such as FB and bloated stock roms like touchjizz doesn't really help.

>Thin is pretty much the new normal, only a fat phone stands out

True, but at least they get to shout "look ours is thinner!". I haven't heard of anyone actually wanting thinner phones at this point but that might be specific to my case. It's a shame to see battery life getting ignored in favor of thinness. Not that I would want a brick but you get the point.

>Probably the last Samsung phone before they went full Apple meming

This

>brings the downside of worser and creakier design.

I haven't had any problems with it, especially the screen turned out to be more durable than I thought. Feel free to call me a luddite but I really don't get the point of unibody designs ignoring the planned obsolescense factor.

>replaceable battery and micro SD cards are dying on most premium phones

The truth can be harsh sometimes, at least I can hope that micro sd cards will get replaced by UFS cards. Samsung claims that they have built one with sequential read of 850MBps, that should be enough for people like you even when you take it with a grain of salt.

To keep it short.

That's without the respective low power modes for each.

13h+ for web browsing (over wifi, tho LTE barely affects it in modern phones unless the connection is shitty) so should easy give you about 1.5-2 days of real use, since you're hopefully won't be browsing web on it for 5h+ each day straight and less screen intensive stuff like music doesn't stress it that much. Obviously you could still easy kill both in one day with GPS and gayming but it still be a very comfortable day, and a far cry from the "where the fuck is a socket, I need a socket" from few years ago.

>I haven't heard of anyone actually wanting thinner phones at this point but that might be specific to my case.
I haven't heard anyone actually wanting anything new on their phones. The shit barely moved and people either just buy new stuff because the old phone gets slower due them being idiots (or touchjizz) or just because their favourite brand released something new.

Besides, not going full retard with the resolution would help a lot more than thinness, SE is a perfect example, it has a ridiculous small battery (1600mhA). Check the numbers above and imagine how much longer S7 would last with 1080p screen that's just as good.

>especially the screen turned out to be more durable than I thought.
It is, but the other side of the case just isn't as stable as it would feel with unibody. Now whether it's worth to give up micro SD and replaceable battery for muh feelz, well our opinions differ here I guess.

>at least I can hope that micro sd cards will get replaced by UFS cards.
Well, we'll see with S8. It's bound to decide where other Android phones sans Google and Chinks will go, and even chinks are slowly giving it up. Though UFS cards seem more meant for portable 4K cameras.
