What subnetmask are you using for your homenetwork ?
1: duh /24
2: small as possible, like /28
3: Class B or A Network
4: something else
I know people of all 3 types.
What type is /g/ ?
I'm asking because I heard there is a fetish of choosing small subnetmasks that barely fit, even in a fucking SOHO

have you been hanging around tripfags again? Because this sounds like something that guy who name all his computers after Touhou characters would do.
>>58665948
oh what the fuck
192.168.23.0/28
it used to be /30 but i got an extra device on the network.
within this range i have 4 static addresses.

>"Alexa, clean the house while I'm asleep"
>They all need their own IP on the network
>mfw not enough addresses
I want to switch my network from 192.168.1.0/24 to some block in the middle of 10.0.0.0 somewhere. This hasn't gotten done because I'm lazy.

Sounds about right

kek
How do you subnet a C class network for 8 subnets? Do you take 3 or 4 bits for the subnetworks?
>>58667687
Hopefully it'll stay that way.
IPv6 is retarded. How are you supposed to remember an 8 octet address? Also whoever came up with the idea of using hex and retarded colon magic that leads to addresses that look like this should contemplate suicide.

You'll get to learn it, it's like learning a new phone number. But yes it is still very autistic.

Are there any benefits to choosing small subnetmasks?
>>58667798
3 bits
255.255.255.224
>>58667884
Don't you need 1 or 2 reserved for the network and/or broadcast address?
>>58667916
that netmask gives you 32 total addresses in each network, minus from each 2 for the broadcast and network id.
32 * 8 = 256
>>58667973
Yes, but what for the network itself? Dont you need the first and last address range reserved?

Only if you're following a standard that was deprecated over 20 years ago
