I think they're collectively referred to as 96-keys, there's the RS96, AMJ96, ZZ96 and some thousand dollar Korean Customs that I know of.

The RS96 occasionally drops on Massdrop and sometimes Originative has them, other than that your best bet is Taobao.

AMJ96 kit:

>>
>>58659877
>bottom row
it's got a 2u left shift too, they're pretty hard to find since the minila is just about the only keyboard to use it

also big ass enter

also >putting the /? key on the right of the arrow cluster rather than halving the numpad 0 key to make room for the arrow cluster like all 96-keys
for what purpose
it moves the right shift to such a weird position, and puts the /? way out of position

you're super fucked

i don't think anyone makes replacement big ass enters
not even china
>>
>>58659890
I guess you might be able to get some set with flat profile where every key is the same height that has a bunch of compatibility keys for weird layouts. Some custom group buy from massdrop maybe. It would be cheaper to just buy a new keyboard honestly.
>>
>>58659911
>>58659919
yeah thats what i guessd, still tho got the keyboard for 10€ from a fucking yardsale and there is no problems with it. anyway thanks
>>
>>58659919
i dont think even the most compatible of group buys will have a 2.25u ctrl key or big ass enter
>>
>>58659910
If you didn't get, then you aren't.

NP anon, I just wondered if we had something in common.
>>
>>58659939
Yeah probably not i figured he might be able to use a shift for the control key since the right shift is 1u but only if it was a set where all the keys are the same height. For the bigass enter lots of group buys have iso packs as an option. But he would probably be spending north of $200.
>>
>>58660050
ISO enter and Big Ass Enter are different sizes, anon. ISO is 1.5u at the top half and 1.25u at the bottom half, BAE is 1.5u at the top half and 2.25u at the bottom half.
>>
>>58659826
Hello. Yes it's a NiseKoi keychain, Marika to be specific.

Good luck finding non-standard row key caps. Jeez that's one big CTRL key.

>>
>>58659826
I have to add, if you really don't want to spend on a new keyboard, just pick up some new quality ABS or PBT for that keyboard and leave the non-standard keys on.

Some Corser K65, Logi G710+ and the like owners have that problem.

I just bought a Model M 139140(3) off an auction for 42E (~45 USD) inc. shipping. Is it a fair price, considering the keyboards (seller offered 2) are undamaged and just dirty, plus german layout? I'm interested in getting a Magicforce 68 with blacks for trying it out, cause I'm reading good reviews about it and it's got pretty much the perfect layout for me.
Is it programmable in any way? Say if I wanted to set caps lock to fn, or the top-right 4 buttons to pgup/pgdown/home/end?

Why would they waste so much space(standard spacebar)?

If there is, I haven't found it yet.
It has 3 DIP switches that lock the Windows key, swap the Windows key with FN and swap caps lock with ctrl. Other than that it has 2 modes that just changes the way the esc/~/` key works.
On the plus side, pgup + fn = End and pgdown + fn = Home

Razer shit does have the gaymer stuff down pretty well. Their macro keys & etc are at least reasonably located and don't extend the keyboard width by 6 inches.

Also, media keys. If anyone tells you they don't need media keys, they are lying.

What's wrong with the corsair keyboards? Bad quality or just triggered by the LEDs?

Just got a K70 MX blue off some local warehouse that sells computer parts cheap because I was too lazy to do my research and order online, all I wanted was a mechanical keyboard with an arm rest and standalone media bar (no fn key crap) withing my budget don't care what it looks like as long as it is comfortable to use.

Would have prefered brown for the slightly less noise and easier reactivation but all they had was blue, it was either that or the das keyboard that was around double the price and well over my budget.

Could've probably found a cheaper keyboard online without features I could do without such as the LED backlight and pass through USB. One with a detachable USB cable would have been better but I never had wear and tear problems with keyboards cables before since they don't move around a lot.
>>
why is the rama actually being shilled in this thread
>>
>>58670312
They look really bad and you can't even change the keycaps. Those the major issues. The quality isn't that bad and LEDs aren't that triggering (for most people), but it's mainly just the edgy design and non-standard layout.
>>
>>58670367
Could change the keycaps just fine on that specific model, unless I misunderstood what you meant.

Comes with some cheap plastic key removal tool and some sloped WASD ESDF QERF keys which I never bothered with after trying some of them once because they suck to type with.
>>
>>58670473
The bottom row key sizes aren't standard so it's harder to find decent custom keycap sets. Sure you can swap those specific ones with extra caps they bundle with it though, but you can't buy 99% of the custom caps you usually see on this thread, and customization is a big part of mechanical keyboards for a lot of people.
>>
>>58670504
Well I see what you mean now, hopefully won't have to replace any custom keys just have to take good care of it, I'm content with the default keys if they last.
>>
>>58670539

>>
>>58675074
A keyboard isn't a new technology. It's not like there is a new breakthrough waiting to happen. All the switches have been designed over 30 years ago.

Even making double shot keycaps has become the norm and easy. The only cost is getting molds assuming you have the rest.

And just to play the game of "Ya well you don't know, the next big thing could be around the corner!". It wont be form a keyboard manufacturer. It'll be from lego.
>>
>>58675357

matter of taste, try them out. you might like the 55g topres, not because of the actuation force but because you can't not bottom them out so typing feels sluggish on them
>>
>>58675760
I'm just wondering what they actually feel like. I absolutely love Cherry MX Greens but I haven't tried other switches other than Cherry MX switches. Topre switches are highly sought after so I'm just curious what they feel liie.
>>
>>58675074
You seem to have misread my post

It wasn't about custom manufacturing being expensive, which it is, it was about one custom 65% board being $300, and one being made at near the same time, by the same people, with the same amount of custom work going into it, with more material being used since it has a significantly larger bezel (which would also drive up the cost of finishing the case I assume), yet somehow this one that logically should cost as much or more is available for only $200.
>>
>>58675765
>Topre switches are highly sought after so I'm just curious what they feel liie.
They're just extremely smooth with no real tactile bump like in Cherry switches. The actuation force depending on the rubber you get ranges from very light to light.

The next closest thing would be Red cherry switches.
>>
>>58675787
ok then it sounds like I wouldn't like them very much.

Are there any readily available keyboards that feel better than even Cherry MX Greens, especially in China?
>>
>>58675771

This is a question of how the Exent can achieve the same at such a cheap price. Even cheaper than a lot of chink customs. This is not an attack on the Rama's pricing.

It's alright, but it's the only mechanical keyboard I've owned/used so I can't really compare it to anything.

-Keycaps are ASS and will start showing wear within the first week of use.
-Switches feel nice, but they're Cherry MX clones and I can't compare them to anything.
-Multimedia functions on the Function keys are excellent on a Windows machine, although I'm not sure if they would work on a GNU+Linux machine
-Standard key sizes/layout so switching keycaps is e z.
-Although the floating key design looks nice, it's also a hazard for wires to get caught in. I've also experienced having to dump my entire rucksack because my left arrow key got popped off by something.
-Made in C H I N A
tl;dr it's alright for a ~38USD keyboard, but I wish I had gotten something else. I would only recommend it to n00bs (like me) who are skeptical about dropping 80USD+ on a keyboard.

Just to clarify, do you mean the true 1.5u+2.25u big ass enter, or the 1.5u+1.25u ISO enter? They're not bad but I guess most people here would prefer something more plain like a Leopold
>>
>>58677656
>>58677678

Why didn't you guys well me it was cheap shit**

my bad..

Feels so uneven compared to my old ducky.
>>
>>58677698
Make use of that return period and get a Leopold
>>
>>58677698
people shit on das here all the time

they're a $160 keyboard with lower build quality and worse keycaps than a $110 ducky one, but you get ~dedicated media keys~ and a big red knob
>>
>>58677716
>>58677678

Already booked for a collection to sent it back. It's a right steaming pile of shit. I would get a Leopold buy can't find anyone who stocks them in the UK, unless anyone knows one.
>>
>>58677809
I think you can get them from mykeyboard.eu. I think it's just eight quid shipping to the UK and you don't have to pay customs.

much cheaper than cherry

seriously, so much cheaper

Most of them are out of stock but they might have what you want and you could always ask about the others

>>58677851
Everything good about Cherry switches but better. Smoother, not scratchy, more tactile, yet much cheaper. You can get 65 for £18 from AliExpress.
>>
>>58677851
some say the plastic makes them better because it almost oily and non gritty.

Never tried them, though. About to buy a batch.

Now that you mention it...

I've tried cherry browns and they feel like shit. Clears too, I don't like it.

Are there any worthwhile gateron tactiles other than purple? If not I'll just get blues.
>>
>>58677862
>not noticeably worse or better
The difference is definitely noticeable on the Gateron Reds, They seriously feel much smoother than Cherrys.

>>58677885
Never tried them myself but maybe buy like a 4 pack of gat browns and try them out
>>
>>58677851
Beat the shit out of cherry in just about every regard.

They have slightly more wobble, but you don't really notice that unless you compare them side by side with cherries.
>>
>>58677930
the wobble is ridiculously bad

it moves like half an inch on every keycap almost straight to one side
>>
>>58677851
cherry click is better

Only thing is that the Gateron Blues are much louder than the Cherry blues (I have both). But I feel that the improved tactile feedback makes up for it, I guess. I'd just never use these around others.

And I'm really certain that they do not have a wobble of 12mm to one side.

I have Gateron Reds and Blues and the wobble is no worse than my Cherry counterparts... which ones do you have and when did you buy them? I bought mine pretty recently

First, it's cheaper and smoother than cherry. Second, it's miles better than every other cherry clone.
>>
>>58678063
Maybe the quality control has improved since then

>>58676924
I bought an unused one off a guy from craigslist $30. Even for the original price, very impressed. Metal plate, rubber feet that can extend and are still rubber, nice knockoff switches that have a more noticeable tactile bump than Kailh blues. Would recommend as a starter board, or as a second/third if you wanted to try the different switches/size.
>>
>>58678150
>a more noticeable tactile bump than Kailh blues

Wait, so what switch is it?

>>58678244
Filcos are up there in terms of build quality too
>>
>>58678244
Not really. They're not bad quality but the caps are among the worst and they still charge way too much. They used to get away with it cause there weren't that many alternatives back in the day but now they are and they haven't gone down with their prices at all.
>>
best switches for typing/programming? looking to get my first mechanical keyboard for around $100-150 USD, amerifat btw.
>>
>>58678604
Get a keyboard made in America like a Unicomp classic or ultraclassic if space is an isssue.
There are no other keyboards that offer better quality for the same price. You can get them on amazon, or on Unicomps own website
>>
>>58678483

You can also get Outemu cheaper in a drop. I got about 90 of them from a friend in China for $10.

6$ for 100. The thing is, I can't read the rest of this shit. It looks like it takes 3 months to ship, but I'm not sure.
>>
>>58678653
I want a Unicomp but I'm skeptical about quality and I have no idea where to buy replacement keycaps for buckling springs. I use a Model M at home and I don't want to bring it in to work.
>>
>>58678764
Unicomp build quality is the same as the old IBMs. They use a bit less plastic, but thats it. Everything is done on the same machinery. It is a modern Model M. Unicomp also sells custom keycaps for your model M if you want some. I know someone got an all black set just to match his monochrome battle station. If you already have a model M then why not try out something like matias qc. They are more tactile then cherry switches while also being quieter then rubber domes, that way your co workers wont kill you due to the loud noise

So, let me just get something straight:

If I build a pcb mounted keyboard, the pcb itself needs to have the layout that I intend for the KB. Correct?

If I laser cut my own plate for a plate mount, I could then have any layout I wanted, depending on the standard keysizes + handwiring. Correct?
>>
>>58678899
That's correct.
>>
>>58678907
Thank you. And fuck me in the ass, I have to get a PCB for a 75%
>>
>>58678899
Yes. With one small caveat that stabiliser wires for non-standard spacebars (anything from 3u to 6u basically) are almost non-existent so if you want one of those you'll have to grab a 6.25u/7u Cherry-style stabiliser wire and shorten+bend it to size yourself.
>>
>>58678923
Those do exist. Chyna sells some for like 15-20 bucks

Yeh, would prolly cost 15 bucks or so since the material is cheap as shit.

if you want a numpad, I can look into milling you that, otherwise you'll have to wait until it's warmer and I've gotten around to building a properly-sized CNC mill.

I think you could get a 60% pcb fairly cheap if you layout it yourself, could even accommodate for a teensy or some other controller board.
I was looking into having PCBs for a TKL printed; EasyEDA is quite damn cheap it seems, though it'll probably still be above your budget since the minimum order quantity is five or so iirc. Still cheap as shit tho.

But yes, once I get around to milling PCBs you can be sure that everyone in this thread will know about it.
>>
>>58679819
30€... a bit too much, specially considering shipping. I guess I can't get lower than that though... Just seems stupid how some keyboards can cost 30~50€ and this shit is almost that price

you don't really need the pcb, it just makes things easier, especially if you want backlighting too

I used target 3001 when I started (not to say that I know a whole lot more other than how to do a basic-ass layout now). They've got a whole wiki of tutorials on how to use it, it's quite straightforward business actually

Also what the other anon said; you can't get cheaper than handwiring.

Yeah... that's what I mean about "not understanding shit". I thought I needed a PCB. I don't mind the work as long as it's cheap. Thanks, I'll look into it.
>>
>>58679926
Handwiring is really simple business

>tfw the 2x3x4mm chinkshit LEDs and SIP sockets I ordered for my Ducky Shine 3 have shipped

>>
>>58679926
ok, basic rundown

the pcb is basically just a flat, solid collection of wires integrated into a board, with holes at the ends of the wires for whatever components need to be plugged in

you can completely replace it with standard wire and diodes soldered right onto the switches, then all connected up to your controller
